Christmas at Gravity Falls

Summary:

Dipper and Mabel Pines return to Gravity Falls for Christmas Vacation with their parents. Who are divorced, by the way.

Notes:

I haven’t been to school since I was in kindergarten and I don’t actually know how Christmas vacation works, so please pretend that I do. This was based off of a Tumbler post by @stablepines. And yes winter break did actually start on Monday in 2012 I checked.

Chapter Text

Dipper Pines sighed as he sat down at the kitchen table. He hadn’t slept well. Dipper had had another dream about…..summer vacation. Specifically a certain puppet show. He rubbed the small scars on his arms- which, as far as his parents knew, had been caused an accident that definitely didn’t involve dream demons of any sort- but his thoughts were interrupted by Mabel, his twin sister.
“Wow, looks like someone got up on the wrong side of the bed!”
“Now is not the time, Mabel-“
“Oh, come on, don’t you know what day it is?”
“Umm….Saturday?”
“It’s Christmas Winter Break!”
“It is- oh right, it is.” He hadn’t remembered that when he woke up.
“Do you think we’ll have Christmas Vacation this year?” his sister asked hesitantly. “And do you think Dad will come?” They sometimes went on some kind of Christmas vacation- usually just to the beach or something- but considering the events of the past few months, that didn’t seem likely this year. Not since their parents divorced- which, apparently, was the real reason the twins had been sent to Gravity Falls for the summer.
“I don’t know Mabel. I hope so.” He smiled sadly at her , but Mabel caught the look in his eyes.
“Wait a second, I know that look- did you have another nightmare last night ?”
Dipper sighed, “Yea… this time it was the sock puppets-“
He was interrupted by Mabel wrapping him in a hug, “Bill is dead , Dipper. That will never happen again.”
“I know that Mabel. I’m not panicking or anything, see?” Manel had helped him with quite a few panick attacks in the past few months. And he had returned the favor whenever she tried to-
“Are you two alright?”their mother asked as she entered the room and witnessed the hugging.
“Y-yea we’re fine Mom! Mabel is just a little excited for Christmas, that’s all.” Dipper said as he pushed Mabel off of him.
“Like you’re not excited to, bro-bro!” Mabel said, punched his shoulder affectionately ,”and mom , we were wondering….are we going on Christmas Vacation this year? And…”
“You two want want to go somewhere? I guess we could. I don’t know anyplace we’d go,” their mother shrugged.
“And what about…”
“What about Dad?” Dipper interrupted his sister.
Their mother stiffened,“He could come, I guess. But he’d probably have to get his own place to stay.”
The twins glanced at each other in surprise. This was going better than expected.
“So where would we go?” Dipper asked.
“You know what,” their mother smiled, “Why don’t you choose this time?”
“Hawaii!” Mabel shouted immediately.
“No, Mabel, isn’t it obvious?” Dipper grinned and adjusted his hat. “We should go back to Gravity Falls!”

Chapter 2: Chapter Two: Remember they are from California. They don’t really have snow there.

Summary:

The Pines family returns to Gravity Falls. The twins see snow. They decide to go somewhere. Idk this chapter is pretty short.

Chapter Text

Dipper felt a rush of Deja vu as he and Mabel stepped into the town of Gravity Falls once again. Had it only been a few months since they left at the end of summer? Now the trees were bare, and snow-

“Oh my gosh Dipper! Look! It’s snowing!” Mabel exclaimed.

Snow was not a yearly sight for the twins, considering they grew up in California. But Dipper barely got a moment to enjoy it before a snowball hit him in the face.

He nearly fell backwards, but recovered in time to toss a haphazard snowball back at the culprit, Mabel.

This would have quickly become a full-on battle had their mother not stopped them, saying “Mabel, Dipper, you can have a snowball fight later. We just got here.”

“Let them have their fun, Sara,” their father spoke up, “they’re still kids.”

“They can play after we get to the motel room I booked for us,” their mother responded.

At least they weren’t having a full-fledged argument.

Yet.

“Hey, on the way there, maybe we could, stop for food or something?” Dipper suggested.

“Yea! Let’s go to Greasy’s Diner!” Mabel immediately backed him up.

“Greasy’s Diner?” Their mother asked, “That doesn’t sound…”

Mabel cut her off, “It’s great, mom. They have pancakes!”

“Yea!” Dipper agreed, “Can we go?”

“Please?”

Their mother sighed, “Fine, I guess we can go. As long as it doesn’t take long.”

She glanced briefly at the twins’ father.

“Yes, we can go,” he agreed, fortunately.

“Yay!” The twins cheered, proceeding to run off into the snow.

“Where are you two going?” Their mother called toward them.

“The Diner! It’s not that far from here!”Dipper called back.

“Well slow down!” Their father shouted, as the twins’ parents reluctantly followed after them.

Notes:

The Diner does seem to be within walking distance of the bus stop I checked. Also I don’t know what it’s like to have divorced parents, more then one parent, or parents that don’t stab you, so sorry if anything seems inaccurate!
