Chapter Text

“Are you fine on your own now, grandma?” Kangmin asked with a friendly smile.
“Oh, I’ll be fine from here. Thank you, young boys,” the old lady took her bag from Junseo’s hand and waved a small goodbye.

The two police officers were returning back to their station from the convenience store, after they had lost in a quick scissors-paper-rock battle against their co-workers, when they had stumbled upon a lady carrying a few heavy looking bags. And as usual, they had to bicker about who should hold what before hand.

“I should’ve been the one to hold her bag,” Kangmin complained after the old lady walked away, “I saw you struggling back there.”

Junseo scoffed, “Kangmin-ah, did you forget how clumsy you are? You would have dropped everything on the floor.”

“Oh?" he turned his head towards him, pissed off, “Didn't expect you to have the energy to move that stupid mouth of yours after tiring yourself out.”

Kangmin wouldn’t call himself clumsy. He was just more active than Junseo and led him to more minor injuries than the other. Such as when he had grazed his knee a few moments ago when a couple of kids had gotten a ball stuck in a tree. It was barely noticeable, but it was enough for Junseo to make fun of for the rest of their way back. He simply rolled eyes at him and walked off with his hands stuffed into his pockets.

“Brat.”

When they arrived back, a certain brown haired boy greeted the two brightly, “Ah! Welcome back you two!”

“Inhu!” Kangmin rushed to him with a hug. “Are you free right now? I need some treating…”

“Yeah, sorry, little Kangminie got hurt and needs a bandaid to feel better,” Junseo pat Inhu on the shoulder and walked past the two before Kangmin could argue back.

“I need my heart treated thanks to you, not this stupid knee…” he mumbled towards Junseo.

Inhu simply laughed, having seen their banter almost every other day.
“What happened this time?” he asked and gestured to his nursing room.

As usual, Kangmin complained about his problems (Junseo) to Inhu, who either did some quick first aid on him or organised his room while he listened.

“And then he laughed at me! All because he can’t reach that high! What a waste of his height,” Kangmin shook his head as he sat on the ward bed.

“I guess in exchange he received some great aiming sense,” Inhu responded as he placed his last document away in his binder.
He turned to an irritated Kangmin with a laugh, “Well I’m finished now, if you wanted to head out?”
Kangmin responded with a smile and followed him outside.

“It’s funny how much you guys fight when you work really well with each other,” Inhu said which earned him a disgusted look from the elder, “A great close range fighter and an excellent marksman!”

“Who’s also a bitch,” he responded.

Though as they turned the corner, Kangmin was almost met with a cold, solid metal to his face. If it weren’t for his strangely fast reaction speed, he would also have met the floor. Instead he bent forward and let the bat slice the air above him.

“Wha- What the h-“ Inhu almost yelled but was cut off by a hand, no, a fabric covering his mouth and in mere seconds, he fell unconscious.

Kangmin responded quickly by throwing a punch towards the person in front of him. ‘Bold of them to pick a fight with the police…’ he thought. He took a quick glance towards Inhu as he twisted his body around, and was able to get a better look at the two strangers.

Their faces were covered with a bike helmet matching their all black leather clothing. The one next to Inhu was much taller than the one in front of him, who seemed to be around his height. He aimed for the bottom of their helmet in an attempt to threaten their identity, and hoped they were less confident than they seemed. He barely nicked the plastic as the short stranger leaned back and re-adjusted their bat to take another swing at him to his right, this time. Kangmin stepped back. Big Mistake.

In the single second where he lost his balance, the taller stranger managed to cover his mouth with the cloth.

His mind blanked and his strength crumbled underneath him. But in his vague conscience he heard a voice.

“Hey, Inhu? Kangmin? You left your-“
