Chapter Text
“I heard he’s from Australia.”
“Everyone’s heard that he’s from Australia, Riki.”
Riki huffs as a response, snatching Jay’s bag of chips away and ignoring the older’s indignant hey!
It’s a normal day at Decelis Academy— students are gathered at the cafeteria, uncaring of their volume and table etiquette as they talk and laugh loudly, silver cutlery clinking against glass plates.
Routine is a big part of Decelis— ingrained into their minds ever since they were children. Everyday at six, the resident assistant wakes everyone up and chaos breaks out. Boys line outside bathrooms waiting for their turn to shower while those inside play around, throwing soap bars and clothes around.
Classes start at seven thirty, and end at three. Extracurricular activities happen afterwards, and everyone is expected to be back at the dorms by six.
School passes by mundanely, mindless chatter about classwork and assignments are usually the topic of conversation. Gossip doesn’t really flow around, the perks of being in the same school with the same few hundred guys since seventh grade.
Perhaps the monotonous routine that’s been drilled into their heads is the reason why everyone is so interested in this new kid.
It’s getting annoying, how much they’re talking about him. It’s like they get one new kid every ten years, which is not true, because Decelis is too prestigious for snobby elites looking to show off their financial status to not send their kids here.
And while his friends still find this new kid to be more interesting than studying for their mid-terms, Sunghoon is frankly— sick of it. Seriously, who even transfers halfway into their last year?
Sunghoon’s heard his name more than he has gone to the bathroom in a day, and he knows way too much about a guy he hasn’t even met. Every time he’s with even one of his friends, it’s always ‘did you hear’ this about him or ‘did you hear’ that about him.
It’s always interesting, of course, to have a new student, but he can’t be that intriguing, right? Sunghoon’s never even seen him before, so how come all of his friends have?
So, Sunghoon thinks the way his eyebrow twitches whenever they talk about the new kid again is perfectly justifiable. It’s not like he has something against Jake (his name, apparently), it’s just that Sunghoon can’t really wrap his head around why he’s always the topic of conversation.
And this doesn’t limit to his friend group.
Girls in the girls school near Decelis come to gawk and giggle about him after school, teachers praise him for being able to catch up with the syllabus so quickly despite being from a different country.
They’re all things that Sunghoon has always been subjected to, and to share the spotlight after years of being at the centre of the stage makes him a little uneasy.
So he’s a little jealous, what about it? You would be too, if you had to share first place with a ghost everyone can see but you.
“I heard he’s a part of the soccer team now,” Sunoo pipes up, pushing away his barely-touched tray. It’s quickly attacked by Heeseung, who shoves a whole bun into his mouth. Everyone turns to look at Jay, who’s still fighting Riki for his chips back.
When he gives up and lets Riki have it (because Jay will always be too soft-hearted for his own good) he finally turns to the others.
“Yeah, he’s really good. And very nice.” He shrugs dismissively, going back to picking at his salad. The school lunch is sad, especially when you consider how much they pay for the school, but everyone still eats it. When he notices the prolonged silence around the table, he looks back up to see everybody staring at him incredulously.
“What?”
“That’s it? He’s really good? The school’s current golden boy is just really good?”
Sunghoon pretends what Sunoo says doesn’t strike his heart.
Current golden boy? Sunghoon’s supposed to be their school’s golden boy. He has all the trophies and certificates to prove it. What does that guy have? A Nobel Peace Prize?
Jungwon seems to be the only one who notices his silence— or maybe it’s the deepening frown etching onto his face, because he nudges Sunghoon with his elbow and snatching him back to reality. He stands up, grabbing his tray.
“Sunghoon hyung and I have to go. You have practice soon, don’t you hyung?”
He blinks dumbly at the younger male, before snapping out of his trance.
“Yeah, it’s in-” he checks his watch, “twenty minutes.”
Jungwon nods, slinging his bag over his shoulder. “I’ll walk you there, I have a meeting in thirty and the council room is on the way.”
Jay’s eyebrows furrow and his mouth twists into a frown, confusion blooming across his face. “You don’t have council meetings on Frida-” He shuts himself up at the look Jungwon gives him, looking like a wet cat.
“Emergency meeting.” Jungwon says simply. Sunghoon nods in response, picking up his things in a haste to be able to catch up with Jungwon, who’s already walking away.
When they drop off their trays, he shoots Jungwon a grateful look and they wave to their friends before leaving the cafeteria.
Decelis is a nice school, though it’s older than even Sunghoon’s grandparents, it’s been renovated enough times to fit to modern standards.
There are four buildings in total; the main building, where classes and club activities are held, two dormitories and a sports building. The land is massive, stretching to almost a thousand acres of plain field.
The nearest town is a one hour train ride over and there is nothing else around them except for woodland and a large lake in front of the main building, and it is as peaceful as it is creepy at times.
The student council meeting room is definitely not on the way to the sports building, where the ice rink is located, but Sunghoon is thankful for the sentiment.
“Why do you hate the new student?”
What he’s not thankful for, and honestly should have expected, is the interrogation that happens whenever he and Jungwon are alone together.
They’ve barely stepped out of the main building and the new student has already been mentioned. Summer is around the corner, and the sun is now beaming down harshly on everything. It’s humid and way too hot for Sunghoon to deal with this right now.
He feels a muscle in his jaw jump. Sweat is already beading on his forehead and back, and the sunlight is too bright for him to be able to open his eyes properly. He shields it with a hand, and glares at Jungwon.
“I don’t,” he says it through gritted teeth, and he can see the way Jungwon rolls his eyes from his peripheral vision. He’d always been bad at lying. “Why did you lie about the meeting?”
Jungwon flicks his hand, a bemused look on his face.
“Don’t change the subject— you know why.” The look changes to be a bit more serious. “He’s really not a bad guy, you know. I talked to him when I was touring him around the school. He really has that confused puppy look nailed down.”
Jungwon stops. Sunghoon stops with him, glancing at him curiously.
“I don’t know, he was actually kinda cute.”
Sunghoon thinks his jaw might fall off his face.
“What?!” He shrieks, and it echoes through the silent terrain. A few crows caw in surprise, wings fluttering as they fly away. Surprised by his own volume and the way his voice cracks midway, he clears his throat and composes himself.
“Cute?” He chokes out, because Yang Jungwon doesn’t call anyone cute. He rarely gives out compliments in the first place, and he definitely doesn’t like to. Sunghoon remembers the last time Jungwon gave him a compliment was when they were in freshman year, and the latter had stayed back to watch him skate. He told Sunghoon he jumped well after he managed to land a triple axel. Radio silence from then.
“Yeah,” Jungwon says after a few seconds of consideration, starting to walk again. Sunghoon falls into step with him, still dumbfounded. “You’ll get it when you see him.” Is the only explanation Jungwon gives him, and Sunghoon doesn’t think he will.
They reach the sports building faster than he thinks, though to be fair he spent most of the walk there in a daze, the words he’s kinda cute resonating through his mind.
Jungwon bids him a goodbye, walking off towards the dorms ahead of the sports building. Sunghoon waves after him, slipping into the sports building once he’s out of view.
The sports building stacks in three floors, and a racing track behind it. The ice rink sits on the ground floor, past the swimming pool room, and Sunghoon fills out the sign in/sign out sheet hanging on a nail tacked into the wall next to the door of the rink.
The air in the ice rink is always crisp, cold and biting, even without actually stepping into the rink. It’s a relief for Sunghoon, and he wipes off the sweat that dampens his nape.
He makes a beeline for the locker room, changing into his training clothes and doing his warmups on solid ground. It’s routine, for him, he does this everyday. The rink is always empty when he practices, save for the occasional hockey practice on Thursdays.
(Sunghoon always leaves when he sees the captain of the hockey team, Jung Sungchan, and his obnoxious face because apparently half the team thinks he’s a priss just because he prefers to dance on the ice instead of banging bodies with other men on it.
It’s a little ironic, because Sungchan definitely has something going on with one of the boys in the dancing club, but he’s too much of a coward and homophobe to say anything about it.)
It’s freeing to be on the ice, Sunghoon’s done it for long enough for it to feel more like instinct than training. The money prizes he gets from competitions is just an added bonus.
He relishes in the clean ice as he skates, in the cold air that freezes his lungs. He’s earned the nickname of Ice King in his years of competing, and he used to be embarrassed, but now he thinks it’s quite fitting.
There’s nowhere else other than the ice for him.
Today, though, as Sunghoon glides across the ice, he feels a brooding presence following him. He shakes off the feeling, trying to relax as he eases into a spin.
It doesn’t go away, so Sunghoon stops. He scans around the rink, and sees a lone figure standing behind the glass in front of the stands.
Sunghoon feels goosebumps trickle his skin, and it’s not from the cold. Slowly, he skates to where the figure is standing, and as he closes in on it, he sees it’s a boy.
He looks to be around the same age as Sunghoon, and he just continues to stare as Sunghoon nears him. He looks dazed, like he’s zoned out on Sunghoon’s figure.
He’s wearing a washed denim jacket— which in this heat, should be illegal— over a plain white tee, and his baggy jeans are the same colour as his jacket.
He doesn’t even look up to meet Sunghoon’s eyes when he stops in front of him, and Sunghoon has to knock on the glass to get his attention. Immediately, his gaze snaps up, and his eyes meet Sunghoon’s.
Sunghoon actually shivers.
“Hey,” his breath comes out as a small cloud, and the boy still looks a bit dazed, but his expression morphs into slight confusion when he sees Sunghoon in front of him.
“Do you need something?”
The boy finally seems to regain his senses, because his eyes go wide and he looks around extremely confused. “Oh! Uhm, I was just looking for a place to get away from the heat-”
His gaze finally lands on Sunghoon again after darting around, and he gives him a sheepish smile. A drop of sweat rolls down the side of his face, and Sunghoon feels the need to wipe it off.
“It just felt the most cool here. Sorry, I didn’t realise I was staring.”
Sunghoon gives him an awkward smile, and the other boy mirrors him. Sunghoon lets his gaze drop, slowly scraping the ice under his feet with his skates. This whole situation is just awkward, awkward, awkward! Why did Sunghoon even go up to him? He’s never been good at talking to new people.
“My, uhm,” Sunghoon’s head snaps back up when the boy speaks again, giving him all of his attention. “My name’s Jake. Jake Sim.”
Sunghoon’s heart drops out of his ass.
His jaw falls too, and the blood in his veins starts to rush way too fast. What the fuck? What the fuck? What the hell is Jake Sim doing here?! In front of Sunghoon, in his safe space?
When Sunghoon doesn’t answer, standing there with his jaw open like a fucking idiot, Jake just laughs awkwardly, scratching the back of his head. “Well, I’m gonna go..” He gives Sunghoon a small smile, dropping his hands and tucking them into the pockets of his baggy jeans.
“See you around, stranger.”
He turns around without a second glance, pulling open the heavy doors and leaving. They shut with a thud, and it resonates throughout the now empty rink.
Sunghoon blinks dumbly at the empty space in front of him, Jake’s silhouette still lingering like a ghost.
Fuck.
///
As expected, training doesn’t go well.
After landing on his ass way too many times, like he did when he first started at the age of nine, Sunghoon gives up and leaves.
The sun is already setting when he does, and when he reaches his dorm and lays on his bed staring up to the blank ceiling after his night routine, Jay snoring lightly on the bed a few feet next to him, he finds himself unable to sleep.
Alright, so he made a fool of himself in front of Jake Sim, big deal. It’s not like Sunghoon cares about him, much less about what he thinks of him.
It doesn’t matter that yes, Jake Sim is as handsome as people say he is, and that yes, he has an extremely nice smile, and yes, his hair falls perfectly even if a tornado passes by, because Sunghoon has ultimately decided that he and Jake will absolutely never meet again.
First of all, they don’t share any classes, clubs or sports. Secondly, Sunghoon barely sees him anyways, so what are the chances he will for the rest of the year?
Amazingly, his theory is proven wrong the very next day, because why is Jake Sim standing in front of him right now?
“What.” Is what he says, looking in between Jay, Jake and their RA, Taehyun. Boxes are stacked into a corner on Jay’s side of the room, and his desk has been cleared out. Clothes are strewn across his bed, and some are already folded neatly into a box that sits on the floor.
Jay throws his arm around Sunghoon’s shoulder. “Remember when they told us we were going to be switching dorms for the next semester?” No, Sunghoon did not remember that. He should really start listening during assembly.
“Well, Jake is going to be rooming with you!” Jay slaps his back particularly hard at that, and Sunghoon nearly chokes on his spit. He doesn’t bother masking his glare, and Jay just grins at him.
“Jake’s going to be moving all his stuff in today, so I hope you two get along well. Help him around, will you Sunghoon? He’s still new.” Taehyun speaks up, nudging Jake slightly. The boy gives him a sheepish smile, and then he peeks at Sunghoon from under his lashes.
Holy shit, Sunghoon must’ve hit his head yesterday during a fall, because this has to be some type of alternate universe. Him and Jake, roommates? Is the devil at play here?
The devil, it turns out, is Jay, because he had somehow managed to bribe Taehyun into letting him room with Jungwon, even though the student council members have their own floor.
Jay tells him this when Taehyun and Jake leave to go get Jake’s stuff and Sunghoon feels like melting into the floor. Curse Jay and his inability to stay two metres away from Jungwon, now Sunghoon has to suffer the consequences.
He falls face-first onto his bed, the groan he lets out muffled by his pillow.
“It’s not that bad, Jake’s a really nice guy. I know how you feel about him but try to at least be cordial to each other, alright?” Jay comforts as he sits down next to him, patting him on the back.
Now they’re gossiping about him behind his back? Sunghoon wants to cry.
Jay takes his silence as a reply, and he gets up to put away more of his stuff into the boxes that litter their floor. He’s humming as he does, and Sunghoon wants to rip out his hair. There’s nothing to be jolly about.
There’s a knock on the door, and Jay yells ‘coming!’ before swinging it open. Sunghoon doesn’t have to look to know it’s Jake, and he hears Jay shuffling around the room as he clears up the rest of his things.
He feels his bed dip, and then someone’s pinching his side, and Sunghoon jumps up with a yelp. Sunghoon pouts at Jay, the betrayer, but the other boy just levels him off with a glare of his own.
“Don’t be rude. Jake can’t carry all those boxes by himself. Come help.”
Jake is standing awkwardly by the door, with a few boxes around his feet. He’s carrying one in his arms, and he glances nervously as Jay pushes Sunghoon lightly by the shoulder.
Sunghoon wants to yell no, I don’t want to, I don’t want to room with this stranger, I don’t want to have to deal with him for the rest of the year, I don’t want to get to know him, I don’t care, but he doesn’t.
He knows how childish he’s being, and knowing the image his parents try to uphold, he knows they’ll chide him for being so immature, but he can’t help it.
Jake makes something in his chest bubble, makes his skin crawl and his hair stand. He feels like letting out a full body shudder every time they make eye contact, and all his senses yell at him to run.
Surely, that has to mean something, right?
Jay glares at him a second time when he stays on his bed, and Sunghoon sighs resignedly as he gets up. He picks up a box with the name ‘Jake’ scrawled on it messily from the floor, and sets it on the bed.
Jay has moved most of his boxes onto a flatboard trolley, which is funny, considering he only has four boxes to move, but Jay has always been one for the dramatics.
He grips the handle of the trolley once he’s done, tapping it twice as he glances forlornly at his side of the room. Then, he turns to Sunghoon and winks, grinning.
“Don’t miss me too much.”
Sunghoon fakes a gag at that, and he can hear the way Jake huffs out a silent laugh from the side. He ignores it.
Jay rolls his eyes, a smirk playing on his lips. He pats one of the boxes on the trolley before rolling it to the doorway. “I’m off! It won’t kill you to make friends, Sunghoon!”
Sunghoon misses the chance to hit him, because he’s already making his way down the hallway, whistling. Jake’s still standing by the doorway, trying his best not to make eye contact with Sunghoon.
Sunghoon sighs, stalking over to Jake and grabbing the box he’s holding right out of his hands. Their fingers brush when he does, and Sunghoon tries not to shiver at how cold they were.
“Make yourself at home, it’s your space too.” He sets it on the desk this time, and Jake’s empty hands fall limply to his sides. “Alright,” he responds, but Sunghoon doesn’t reply, just flumps back down onto his bed.
He hears Jake shuffling around the room, hears the ripping of tape and the clutter of his belongings as he puts them all into place. After a while, Jake starts to hum, and of course he has a nice voice, even while he’s humming.
Oddly, the sereness lulls him to sleep. He doesn’t wake up until the next morning, to the sound of birds chirping outside the window. Sunghoon blames it on the fact that he hadn’t gotten any sleep last night.
Not because of the dream involving a boy with brown hair and a bright smile that he didn’t want to wake up from.

Chapter 2: Chapter 2
Chapter Text
“Summer break!”
Jungwon all but crashes into the room, dashing to jump on the couch. They’re all in the common room, lounging about now that school’s over. Boys talk over each other as they share their plans for the break, about how they’re finally going back into the modern ages.
Sunghoon doesn’t go home on any of the breaks, save for winter break, but that’s only to attend the Christmas ball his family holds every year. Honestly, he prefers staying at Decellis anyways— at least he doesn’t have to worry about appearances here.
Sunghoon doesn’t know how it happens, but Jake’s somehow managed to be a regular in his friend group. He’s sitting on the couch with Heeseung, and they’re laughing about something Sunghoon can’t hear.
He makes way for Jungwon when he bounces on the couch, laughing at his stunt. “Are you going home for the break, Jake?” Jay speaks up from where he is in the armchair, and Jake turns to look at him with bright eyes.
“Nah, my whole family’s back in Australia. They sent me here because it was easier for them.” Everyone hums— it wasn’t a rare occasion for parents to send their children off to Decellis so they would have one less person to care about.
“Hey, Hoon, you staying back again too?”
Sunghoon drags his gaze from where he’s watching Riki and Sunoo compete in Mario kart to Heeseung.
“Yeah,” he catches the way Jake perks up at this from the corner of his eye, but he pointedly does not look at him, opting to turn back to watching the game when Sunoo wails.
“At least you’ll finally have someone accompanying you this time,” Jungwon says, slipping down from the couch onto the floor.
Yeah, lucky me.
///
There is definitely something wrong with Jake.
The first few days into summer break had been fine. Sunghoon was constantly practicing at the rink, and when he came back, Jake was either asleep or studying. They don’t talk much, exchanging only a few words of convenience.
Jake doesn’t really do much in the morning. He sleeps through the day, until the late afternoons when he gets up, and starts his day. When Sunghoon’s getting ready for bed, Jake is already slipping out of the dorm with a backpack slung over his shoulder, books in hand.
To study, presumably, but Sunghoon doesn’t like to make assumptions.
And he’s always drinking this juice. The moment he wakes up, he’ll rummage through their shared fridge with squinted eyes to find a bag of juice from the stack he keeps at the back of the freezer.
He offered Sunghoon some before, but Sunghoon turned it down. It’s crimson red and thick, and doesn’t really look the most appetizing. Jake shrugs when he does, sticking a straw into the bag and sucking.
“I don’t know how you go so long without it, man. Athletes really are different, huh?”
Sunghoon doesn’t really know what he means by that, so he just kind of lets it settle and drops it when Jake turns back to studying again.
All in all, living with Jake isn’t the worst. He’s clean (most of the time), keeps quiet, and doesn’t really bother Sunghoon. Sunghoon is almost grateful that Jake’s such a nice roommate, but he'd rather throw himself off the bell tower before admitting it.
Now, though, Jake is definitely being weird.
Sunghoon had come back from his morning run to see that Jake hasn’t got up at all from his bed, and he keeps squirming under the blankets. He makes all these breathy sighs and whimpers, sounding like he’s in- like he’s in heat or something.
Sunghoon’s read about that before in the yaoi manga his sister keeps on her bookshelves, and after that— it’s safe to say he’ll never go through her stuff again without permission.
The things he’d learned will never be able to leave his mind, though.
Anyways, Jake is acting a little bizzaro, and Sunghoon kind of feels bad for him, because what if he’s really sick? Like, deathly sick? Sunghoon’s not about to let his roommate die on his watch, because that would make a really bad image for him.
So he stalks over to Jake’s bed, and hovers awkwardly above him.
“You alright?”
Jake honest to god jumps, like he’s forgotten he was sharing a room with someone. He turns to stare up at Sunghoon, all bright eyes and flushed cheeks.
Sunghoon wills himself to shove that image in the hidden folder of his brain.
“Yeah,” his voice is breathy and a little raspy, and Sunghoon ignores how that makes goosebumps rise all over his skin. “Sorry man, I had a single room before I was finally sorted into the school, and I don’t really know where to go to deal with this.”
A fever? Sunghoon thinks it’s a little weird that Jake would need his own room to deal with a fever, but then again, Jake is probably just being considerate and doesn’t want Sunghoon to catch whatever he has. Especially if it was like, viral, or something.
Sunghoon wouldn’t put it past him.
Sunghoon doesn’t reply, and Jake takes it as his cue to keep going. “I think I’m having withdrawals, or something, because the bags aren’t really helping me.” He shivers again, and Sunghoon almost reaches out a hand to smooth away the hair sticking to his forehead.
He doesn’t, and mentally kicks himself for even thinking about it.
Withdrawals? What’s in the bag that could possibly be giving him withdrawals? Is Jake doing drugs? If somebody finds out, and accuses Sunghoon of being in on it too, this might ruin his career as an athlete!
“Seriously, I don’t know how you do it. I barely see you drinking blood. Do you have a volunteer or something?”
Wait a minute.
Rewind.
Did he just say blood?
“What?”
Jake stares at him like he’s the weird one, like he’s the one who just mentioned drinking blood, and Sunghoon realises he has much more to worry about than Jake sniffing— or drinking, in this case— drugs.
“You know, the thing we drink to stay alive?” He huffs out a laugh, sitting up in his bed. Sunghoon doesn’t really find anything amusing right now. Jake tucks the blanket under his armpits to hold it there, and Sunghoon notices that he’s not wearing a shirt.
Of course Jake wasn’t the perfect golden boy everyone thought he was. Sunghoon knew it! He was a cannibal, probably— drinking blood? What the fuck?
When he doesn’t respond, he sees the thoughts running through Jake’s mind, flashing on his face. He cocks his head to the side, and his hair falls prettily over his face.
“You are a vampire, right?”
Sunghoon books it out of the room.
///
For as long as he’s been alive, Sunghoon’s always been compared to a vampire
Kids at school would tease him about his fair skin, way too sharp canines and his outworldly face. There were rumours about him being one up until he came to Decellis, where everyone was kind of hot anyways, so another handsome face wasn’t really news.
Still, the teasing doesn’t stop, and his friends have a running joke that if he steps out into the sun he’ll burn away, or whatever. Sunghoon’s learned to ignore it— doesn’t let it affect him.
Vampires, obviously, aren’t real.
They’re a mythical creature created to scare kids to not go out at night. Sunghoon’s never been a believer of the supernatural anyways.
Now, as he trips over his own feet trying to run out of the dorm building, he’s starting to entertain the idea.
He doesn’t really know where he’s running to, but he doesn’t stop. Vampires, Jake— vampire? It doesn’t make sense.
He stops eventually, when his lungs feel like they’re going to burst as he heaves for air. He ends up on the field in front of the lake, a place that students use for picnicking and general relaxing.
Sunghoon walks up to a bench, dropping his whole weight on it as he collapses from the exhaustion in his legs. In his haste, he realises he hadn’t brought anything with him, not even his phone— equipped with only the slippers he wears around the dorm.
He groans, still a little out of breath from his run.
The sun is bright and glaring, giving Sunghoon no mercy from its harsh rays. Sweat starts to form on his forehead and nape, and Sunghoon wipes it off with the back of his hand.
Alright, so Jake is maybe a vampire. Or a cannibalist. Neither sounds really appealing to go back to right now. But it would explain his strange behaviour, and why every fibre in Sunghoon’s body always tells him to run when he and Jake make eye contact.
Sunghoon briefly considers begging Taehyun to let him switch dorms, but knowing the stoic RA, he probably wouldn’t even spare Sunghoon a glance.
Sunghoon weighs his choices.
Either he gets killed and eaten by cannibal Jake, or he’ll be sucked clean of his blood and buried in the large Redwood tree behind the dorms by vampire Jake.
Neither really sounds too appealing, right now.
The sun is really beaming down on him now, and the heat is practically unbearable. Sunghoon comes to the conclusion that he doesn’t care if he dies anymore at this point, because he’s sweating and desperately wants to shower and sleep for eternity.
Which, luckily for him, might just happen.
So, he picks himself up on trembling legs and makes his way back to his fate.
///
Jake’s still under the covers when Sunghoon creaks the door open, trying to be as quiet as he can— but the hinges of the ancient door squeal despite his efforts.
Immediately, Jake shifts under his blanket, and a tuft of dark brown hair pops up. Ok, so Sunghoon isn’t as ready to die as he thinks he is, and maybe he should’ve just went to Jay’s or something, because when brown eyes meet black, his heart starts to pick up in pace and his legs feel like giving out.
Sunghoon’s been told to be brave though, so he puffs out his chest in defense, ready for any attack that will hit him.
Instead, Jake just looks at him with these sad and worried eyes— like a puppy that had been left to sit at home alone, waiting for their owner to come back. He looks a lot more feverish than when Sunghoon had run out of their room, and the sheen of sweat makes his skin glisten unfairly.
Seriously, looking good even while being sick and sweaty should be a crime. Then maybe Sunghoon could send Jake to jail and his heart will stop with all these funny flips.
Neither of them say anything for a really long time, just staring at each other like they’re trying to figure out each other’s next move.
Or, well, Sunghoon is. Jake is still looking at him with those sad eyes, like he feels guilty or something. Jake opens his mouth to speak, and Sunghoon sees the white flash of his canines.
“I didn’t mean to scare you like that, just now.” Jake gets up, pulling off his blanket and sliding his feet into the pink slippers that have a bunny face printed on the top.
Jake is a very unusual vampire, Sunghoon notes.
He doesn’t have porcelain white skin, piercing blue eyes, and Sunghoon’s seen his reflection in the mirror more than a handful of times. He doesn’t sleep in a coffin, he doesn’t wear a cape and brood around.
Jake is all honey-tan skin and warm brown eyes, with a personality so bright it can rival a supernova. He also looks unfairly good under the golden rays of the sun.
“I just thought…” He stands up, arms laying limp at the side of his torso. “You know.. you look so much like a vampire.” His hands reach up to scratch the back of his head, and it makes one side of the collar of the loose pajama shirt he wears slip down his right shoulder.
Sunghoon gulps.
“I shouldn’t have assumed.” Jake looks at him with round eyes, pink lips parted slightly. “But everything kind of makes a lot more sense now.” He laughs, but it’s more like just a short huff of air.
Nothing about this is making sense, Sunghoon wants to scream, but the words are lodged in his throat.
“Uhm, I really hope you don’t tell anyone about this.” He smiles, but Sunghoon sees the way the corner of his lips tremble.
Of course, Sunghoon will keep this a secret— he’s not risking his life for some gossip the boys will have during tea time. He’s heard that vampires are very particular about this sort of thing. Anything to keep him alive for just a while longer.
He nods, and he sees the tension melt away from Jake’s shoulders.
“Thanks,” now that he’s not as worried about Sunghoon leaking his whole identity to the whole school, it’s like the fever he has comes back in full force and Jake sits back down on the bed, eyes glazed over.
“My head’s killing me. I’m gonna go back to sleep,” he lies down on his side, throwing Sunghoon a lazy smile from over his shoulder. “Night, Hoon.”
Sunghoon doesn’t realise that he’s been holding his breath during the whole interaction, and he’s starting to get light-headed. Air floods his lungs involuntarily, and he chokes on his own saliva.
Hoon?
Since when were they on nickname basis?
Sunghoon doesn’t get the chance to ask though, because Jake’s already fallen back asleep, occasionally letting out a small whimper of pain.
This is going to be a long, long summer.
///
Sunghoon, frankly, is a little more than worried now.
Jake hasn’t gotten up from bed since that last conversation they had— which was two days ago now— and when Sunghoon tries to speak to him, he just gets slurred nonsense spouted back at him.
When he suggests going to the nurse, Jake practically yells his disfavour of the idea. It’s the most lucid Sunghoon’s seen him in a while.
And he won’t stop making all these weird noises.
Sunghoon, like any other perfectly functioning teenage boy, has hormones. And he blames it on the fact that he goes to an all-boy boarding school with no time to himself that he sometimes, sometimes, gets a semi from the noises Jake makes.
It’s embarrassing, and so, so wrong, but it’s not like he can help it! It’s basic human biology.
Now, it’s due to this fact that Sunghoon barely sees his own bed, opting to sneak out of the dorms to study at the library instead.
Turns out, the chair and table there aren't the most comfortable beds, and when Sunghoon nearly cracks his head open during practice, he thinks he’s had enough.
Sunghoon isn’t a very confrontational person. His hands clam with cold sweat, his entire body trembles, and his heart starts to beat faster than when he sprints two hundred metres.
So, after pacing the common room talking to himself for the past two hours and probably freaking out the janitor, Sunghoon prepares himself for war.
When he cracks open the door to his dorm room, it’s pitch black, save for the light flooding in from the hallway. Jake is still a lump under his blanket, and Sunghoon almost feels bad.
Then the slight ache in his lower back and neck and the creaking of his joints make themselves known, and the pity vanquishes immediately. He steps into the room as quietly as he can, and Jake immediately perks up.
Right, vampires have super hearing, don’t they?
When Sunghoon catches his eyes, goosebumps flood his skin again, and he forces himself not to run away. Jake’s eyes are more amber now than the dark brown they used to be, and they relax at the sight of Sunghoon.
“Sunghoon,” his voice comes out as a whisper, and Sunghoon gulps. Jake tries to stand, but he wobbles and flumps back down onto the bed.
Sunghoon walks deeper into the room, nearer to Jake’s side, and he notes that the flush on his face hasn’t gone away, and his hair is sticking to his forehead because of the sweat there.
He still looks pretty.
“Look, I don’t really know what’s wrong with you,” he tries not to feel guilty at the sad frown that stretches across Jake’s lips when he says that, “but I can’t really sleep with— you know. With your whole..” He gestures at Jake’s entirety with his hands, trying to find the right word without offending him.
“Situation.” He lands on, and Jake sighs out this pitiful thing.
“I know, I’m sorry.” His fangs are more prominent now too, and Sunghoon tries not to stare at them for too long. “There really isn’t anywhere I can go, and my symptoms are worse this time around, so I’ve been weaker.”
This piques Sunghoon’s interest. He doesn’t really know exactly what it is going on with Jake, but he’s sure that it’s not a normal fever. He moves to sit down on his own bed, facing Jake.
“What is your condition called?”
Jake’s face turns even redder, if possible, but Sunghoon’s sure it’s not because he’s sick. Jake looks away, embarrassment clouding his features.
“It’s a vampire thing,” he says, “it’s called a-” he cuts himself off, pausing. His eyes drag back to Sunghoon, who finds himself unable to breathe.
“A heat.”
Sunghoon feels like he’s been punched.
“A heat?” He echoes, choking on his own words. Jake nods, biting his bottom lip. It’s a distracting habit, Sunghoon realises, because now he’s just staring at the dark pink of Jake’s lips.
“Yeah, uhm, it’s a little embarrassing to be talking about,” Jake lets out a short laugh, rubbing his nape. “Basically, every two months, vampires would go through heats to kind of refresh themselves?”
Sunghoon raises a brow.
“Refresh yourselves how?”
Jake plays with the hem of his shirt, not looking up at Sunghoon. He whispers something under his breath and Sunghoon needs to lean forward a little more to hear him.
“What?”
Jake sighs, eyes finally meeting Sunghoon’s.
“Through.. Sexual intercourse.”
His voice cracks when he says it, and he clears his throat loudly as if trying to cover up what he just said.
Sunghoon laughs.
Like genuinely, really, laughs. It might be the best laugh he’s had all year. Tears prick his eyes and threaten to escape, so he wipes them away.
Unbelievable.
Of course it’s Sunghoon that gets stuck in a situation like this. Honestly, what are the chances your roommate is a vampire that absolutely needs to get laid every two months?
At least he finally has a name to whatever Jake’s going through.
When he’s done laughing, he stares at Jake, who’s pouting. His skin is paler than usual, and his clothes and hair are sticking to his skin, and it’s obvious he’s squirming under the covers. He lets out a breathy sound, eyes screwing shut as he throws his head back.
All of a sudden, Sunghoon’s breath is knocked out of his lungs.
Has Jake’s sleep shirt always been that low? Why are his collarbones out for display? Sunghoon feels like he’s the vampire with the way his teeth itch to bite at Jake’s neck, to taste the salty skin there.
He gulps.
This isn’t that funny anymore.
Jake takes notice of his sudden silence, pulling off his covers. He trembles a little when he stands, slowly making his way over to Sunghoon, like he’s approaching a wild animal.
Sunghoon can see the bulge in shorts, and there’s a growing wet patch there. His eyes drift down to Jake’s legs, smooth and long.
Jake stops in front of him, nudging himself between Sunghoon’s legs. Sunghoon realises that Jake’s shorter than he thought, because even while sitting he’s nearly the same height as him.
“Sunghoon,” it comes out mostly as a breath instead of actually being said, and he’s so close Sunghoon can feel his breath against his own lips.
He freezes when Jake circles his arms around his shoulders. His knees settle on the bed, straddling Sunghoon’s hips.
“Do you want me?”
This is the worst summer ever.

Notes:
We've reached the end! Idk of u guys noticed but i originally set this work to have 5 chaps, then realised i wanted to see my beloved jakehoon suffer a little more before ACTUALLY getting together, so they will be having a sequel instead! Idk when i'll be uploasing it, but expect a lot of pining, idiots being in love, and denial of feelings ;)
(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)
Chapter Text
Contrary to popular belief, Sunghoon is a virgin.
This is mainly due to the fact that he’s been in an all-boys school ever since he was twelve, and also mostly because it’s just never been something that he thinks about often.
He jerks off, of course, he’s still a teenager, but anything past the stage of holding hands is uncharted territory for him.
He had his first girlfriend at the age of ten— some girl in his class that basically forced her way into a relationship with him, and sure, she was cute, but Sunghoon realises very, very fast that he much rather spend his time ice skating than hanging out with her.
She breaks up with him after Sunghoon dodges her kiss for the millionth time, fuming and stomping off, leaving Sunghoon behind in an empty park.
He doesn’t really try after that, turning down girls and running away before they try to manipulate him into accepting their confessions. After coming to Decelis, boys would ask him if he’d ever been in a relationship.
Sunghoon would tell them no, because he thinks his first one shouldn’t even be counted as one, and they would laugh, asking if he was gay.
“There’s no way such a handsome face didn’t attract any girls.”
Sunghoon frowned. He did attract girls. He just didn’t want to be in a relationship.
Sunghoon didn’t think he was gay. He never really thought of boys like that— though he never really thought about girls like that either. Being an athlete means staying busy, and being busy means you don’t get much time to yourself.
He doesn’t even remember the last time he properly jerked off. It’s probably been months— maybe even years.
Maybe that’s why, with Jake basically in his lap, crotch to crotch, that he’s getting hard right now. He can’t help it— not when the other boy is squirming in his lap, the wet patch on his shorts ever growing.
“Do you want me?”
Sunghoon feels very, very conflicted right now. He has been ever since Jake’s moved in, ever since he saw brown eyes in a dark rink, watching his every move.
Sunghoon wouldn’t call himself horny. He doesn’t care for that sort of stuff, and he doesn’t really have any experience to go off on anyways.
But now, as Jake is basically grinding on him, whimpering and panting, it’s like he’s been put under a spell. Why is Jake so goddamn sexy? Why is he reacting to this?
“Please, Hoon, it’s too much- wanna-” Jake cuts himself off, choking back a moan.
There’s that nickname again. Hoon. Like they were close. Now he’s using it here?
“Wanna come, please,” it seems like Jake doesn’t care anymore, fully moaning as he rolls his hips down.
Sunghoon is very much hard now, if he wasn’t before, and his hands grip at Jake’s hips to prevent him from falling.
“Fuck,” he groans. He seriously can’t believe he’s doing this right now. It’s not like Sunghoon prided himself as being some sort of pure, save-himself-till-marriage virgin, but he doesn’t like to lose control like this.
Especially when it comes to Jake.
Jake’s hand dip into the waistband of his sweats, running his hand over Sunghoon’s clothed dick.
“Underwear?” Jake pouts, like he can’t believe Sunghoon had the decency to wear underwear before going out in public.
Sunghoon removes his hands from Jake’s hips, placing them on his thighs and sliding them up the hem of Jake’s shorts.
He smirks.
“Just because you don’t wear underwear around, doesn’t mean everyone else does the same.” He relishes in the furious blush that burns Jake’s face, the way he bites his lip when Sunghoon’s hands brush against his hip bones.
“Sunghoon, please,” Jake’s hands come out to guide Sunghoon’s to his erection, but Sunghoon doesn’t budge.
“Do I have to fuck you?” He whispers, fingers stroking Jake’s hip. Jake shakes his head, eyes closed.
“Just need another person to get me off,” he says, trying to pull down his shorts. Sunghoon’s hands don’t allow that, staying firmly rooted in place.
“Is that so?” He noses against the column of Jake’s neck, smirking when his breath stutters. “Then I don’t need to kiss you, do I?” He feels the way Jake shakes his head vigorously, and it almost makes him laugh.
He detaches himself from Jake’s neck, lips brushing against his jawline. “Or you can find someone else to help you. You just need a hand, right?”
Jake’s eyes are blown wide, glassy with unshed tears and a little glazed over, but Sunghoon can see the concern floating around in them.
“No- no, just want you, Hoon.” He whines, pushing his face down to meet Sunghoon’s. Their noses brush and Jake tries to kiss him, but Sunghoon dodges it so that it lands on the corner of his lips instead.
Jake whines again, and this time Sunghoon does laugh, but just barely.
“Then you should know how to ask properly, hm?”
Jake blinks at him with those sad puppy eyes, lips pouting. The tips of their noses are still touching, and Sunghoon notices that his eyes are gold now, with a ring of light green surrounding his iris.
“Please, Sunghoon, make me come.”
And Sunghoon doesn’t need much more convincing.
He finally lets Jake kiss him, lets him lick into his mouth. It’s clear Jake doesn’t have much experience either, but they find their rhythm after a few times of clashing teeth.
Jake’s tongue is hot and wet, and he drools like a mutt, saliva dripping down his chin. Sunghoon swallows his moans, kisses back with just as much vigour. One of his hands travels up Jake’s spine, settling on the back of his neck. The other presses against the middle of his back, making him arch up into the kiss.
Jake’s hands make haste with his shorts, lifting himself up onto his knees to pull them down. Sunghoon breaks the kiss to pull his own pants off, both of them throwing their own somewhere on the floor.
Their lips find each other again immediately, and Jake gasps into the kiss when Sunghoon wraps a hand around his leaking cock. He breaks the kiss again, keening, turning his head off to the side.
Sunghoon uses this opportunity to stare at Jake’s cock. It stands tall, furiously red and curving, which allows a wonderful contrast with the pale white of his hand. Jake’s shirt gets in the way, so Sunghoon holds the hem up to Jake’s mouth.
“Bite,” he orders, and Jake does. For a second, Sunghoon is worried that Jake’s fangs might pierce the fabric, but then Jake moans, and his lizard brain focuses back on making the other boy feel good.
Sunghoon strokes it a few times, using the dripping precum as lube. He runs his thumb on the slit, and then on the underside of the head, and that’s all it takes for Jake to seize up, shooting white strips over Sunghoon’s hand and onto his own shirt.
“Fuck,” Sunghoon breathes, reveling in the the way Jake squirms and twitches. His cock is still hard, even after coming that hard, and Jake thrusts his hips helplessly into Sunghoon’s hold. He whines when Sunghoon tightens his hold, hands pushing at his shoulders.
He lets out a louder whine when Sunghoon removes his hand, and Sunghoon chuckles.
“I think we’re gonna have to go further than a handjob, Jake.” He presses a cum soaked finger against Jake’s entrance, not quite pushing in. Jake arches, his chest pressing against Sunghoon’s. His shirt is thin enough that Sunghoon can see his perky nipples through it, so he pulls it off so he can move a clean hand upwards to brush against it.
The effect on Jake is immediate as he tenses, panting. The hem of the shirt he had between his teeth drops, covering up Sunghoon’s view.
“C’mon, Hoon, want it,” a trembling hand presses against his clothed erection, and Sunghoon groans. “ ‘M clean I promise, just put it in.”
Sunghoon doesn’t have much experience with things like this, but he’s sure that was like, the top three most sexiest thing he’s ever heard.
(He doesn’t admit that the top two places belong to 1. Jake’s moans, and 2. Jake’s whimpers.)
“You want it this badly?” Jake nods, floppy brown hair bouncing together with his head.
“Yes please, I’ll be good for you,” he promises, licking a stripe up Sunghoon’s jaw.
If Sunghoon’s realised something in this whole… situation, it’s that Jake definitely has an oral fixation. His mouth constantly has to be sucking on something, or biting something, or licking something, and Sunghoon will be honest and say it’s the hottest thing about Jake.
Probably. Maybe it’s a vampire thing.
So, he brings his dirty hand up to Jake’s mouth, and the boy immediately starts to lap at his fingers, seemingly uncaring that it’s his own semen. He takes in two of Sunghoon’s fingers at the same time, sucking eagerly.
When he pulls off, it’s with a pop, and he moves to lick Sunghoon’s palm instead. Once he deems it clean enough, he spits on Sunghoon’s fingers, guiding his hand back to his entrance.
He pushes one in himself, letting out a loud moan when Sunghoon’s two knuckles deep. He’s a little loose, and Sunghoon slips in another finger. Jake’s cock jumps in between them, and Sunghoon wraps his free hand around the base of it to stop him from coming.
“Did you already prep yourself before this?” Sunghoon’s a little breathless, relishing in the way Jake’s insides twitch around his fingers.
“Would touch myself, mmph, thinking about you—” Jake grinds downwards onto his fingers, head thrown back. “Your scent- was still strong even when you weren’t here. But it wasn’t enough— needed you so bad.”
The image of Jake fingering himself with Sunghoon’s name on his lips, his face in his mind, every single day he’s been like this— hell maybe even before Sunghoon came back— almost makes Sunghoon come. Luckily, he has more perseverance than he thinks he does, so he doesn’t.
“Move, Hoon, please.” Sunghoon didn’t think begging could sound so pretty, but almost everything Jake does is pretty. He obeys, pushing his second finger in deeper, and then pulling both of them out before pushing back in.
Jake mewls, circling his arms around Sunghoon’s neck again, pushing his face into the junction of his neck and shoulder. Sunghoon feels a wet stripe licked onto the column of his neck, and then the barely-there graze of Jake’s fangs.
“Wanna bite me, Jake?”
Jake’s moan is muffled through Sunghoon’s neck, and he removes himself to stare at Sunghoon with wide eyes.
“Can I?”
Okay, so maybe Sunghoon is a victim of pretty privilege. How is he supposed to deny Jake when the other boy is looking at him with such pretty eyes, pink lips slick with spit and parted slightly.
“Not yet, Jake. Wait until I’m inside you, ok?”
Jake nods, and Sunghoon starts moving his fingers again. It gets Jake keening, panting as he tells Sunghoon to hurry up.
And Sunghoon is nothing if not nice.
“You sure we can do this raw?” He nibbles Jake’s jaw as the boy nods, grinding down on Sunghoon’s fingers.
“You- you’re my first.”
The confession leaves Sunghoon breathless and unbelievably hard, even though he didn’t know it was possible for him to get any more turned on.
“Me too.” He replies, and Jake is swift in the way he pulls down Sunghoon’s underwear. He groans when he runs his hand over Sunghoon’s dick, like he can’t wait to fit it all inside him.
He pulls out Sunghoon’s fingers himself, lifting himself onto shaky knees to press the head of Sunghoon’s cock against his entrance.
Sunghoon chokes when he drops down fully onto his dick. He clenches his abs hard so he doesn’t come immediately, and Jake is sobbing above him.
“Fuck- you’re so big, Hoon.” He’s babbling now, and both of them don’t move for a long time. Their breaths are harsh against each other, and Jake leans down to capture Sunghoon’s lips.
As they kiss, Sunghoon rolls his hips up experimentally, and swallows Jake’s loud moan. He does this a few more times before Jake gets impatient and breaks the kiss to move on his own.
He bounces shallowly on Sunghoon, his legs too weak for him to lift himself up fully, so Sunghoon helps him with this.
He grabs Jake’s cheeks, lifting him up until only his head is inside before basically dropping him back down.
Jake sobs and shakes as he comes for the second time in half an hour, and Sunghoon licks his tears away. Cum stains their chests, and Jake’s dick twitches uselessly between their stomachs.
“Move, Hoon, please.” Jake begs, even though it’s obvious he’s sensitive, back arching and his hole impossibly tight around Sunghoon’s dick.
But he complies, lifting Jake up again so that he can fuck into him without needing Jake to move. Jake continues to cry, burying his face into Sunghoon’s neck.
Sunghoon feels the slight scrape of sharp canines over the hollow of his neck, right beside his Adam's apple.
“Go ahead, baby. You can bite.” The nickname slips out before he can stop himself, but the way Jake whines is a clear indication that he likes it.
Sunghoon’s hips stutter when he feels sharp fangs break skin, and pain sears through the whole right side of his torso, before it becomes way too good, and Sunghoon barely remembers to pull out before he’s coming all over Jake’s stomach as the other boy continues to drink.
Jake pulls off when Sunghoon finishes with a groan, lapping at the pierce marks.
“You taste good, Hoon.” He licks his lips, which are now stained blood red, and Sunghoon feels like fainting.
The flush on Jake’s face is less intense now, and Sunghoon can see the way his eyes droop with sleepiness. He lays Jake down on the bed, untangling their limbs
He shushes Jake softly when he whines at the loss of contact, kissing his forehead and telling him he’ll be back soon.
He sneaks off into the bathroom, wetting one of their hand towels and cleaning himself up before grabbing another one and doing the same.
He tries to be quick to prevent water dripping onto the hardwood floor, pacing across the room in five strides before reaching the bed.
He cleans Jake up properly, pulling some clothes onto him with only a little bit of struggling.
The real struggle was getting Jake to stop sticking to him, gently peeling off long arms without distressing the other boy. He gives up trying to put the cloth back into the bathroom and throws it somewhere on the floor, giving in to Jake’s pleas to just come to bed, Hoon.
They lay together, Jake’s head resting on Sunghoon’s chest. Sunghoon doesn’t think about how Jake’s going to react when they wake up, doesn’t think about how he’ll react when they wake up.
He decides that the gentle jasmine scent from Jake’s shampoo is a nicer thing to focus on as Jake's soft breathing lulls him to sleep.
Everything else that comes after is a problem for future Sunghoon.
