Chapter 1: Dreams Come True
Today was the start of a new chapter. I arrived in Korea at 5:00pm, and I was filled with excitement. Butterflies filled my stomach as I walked through the airport. Unfamiliar faces, new smells, crowds of people. I was in a new place, with a new job… a new life. My head was spinning from jet lag and I was forcing myself to keep awake, at least until my sister Kate had picked me up.
5 years ago my sister had moved to Korea on a study abroad scholarship. In those five years she had never come back to visit. She apparently found a new boyfriend and was spending all her time with him. I still know so little about him, so it’s a strange feeling seeing her again.
She talked me into applying for the job. She was already working in Korea as an ecologist. When she found out I had gotten the position she was ecstatic. She really wanted me to stay with her, in her apartment, RENT FREE. I couldn't pass up that opportunity. So here I am, waiting outside Incheon airport. Trying my best not to curl up on the ground and fall asleep. I was sitting down on a bench, my luggage was in front of me and I was hunched over like a drunk person who can't keep their head up. Who knew that 15 hours on a plane could take so much life out of me.
“HONK HONK”
I lifted my head to see my sister in a black car, it looked as if two guys were sitting in the car with her. Shit. I wasn’t aware that she was bringing people. I do get some anxiety when meeting new people or in big social gatherings. The fact I haven't seen my sister in over five years made it a little less comforting.
“Hey y/n! OMG I have missed you!”
“I've missed you too…”
She gets out of the car and gives me a big hug, at this point I'm still sitting down on the bench. So I get up and grab my luggage and we walk to the car. She opens the trunk and helps me push my suitcase in the car. It was a bit heavy so it took both of us to carry it. I may have over packed but I always feel the need to be prepared.
I opened the door to get in the back seat and at this point I had totally forgotten the two men in the car. One of them was sitting in the driver seat and the other in the back. I lock eyes with the man in the back seat and I freeze. I was looking into the eyes of Choi Soobin, my bias. from my favorite K-pop group…LIKE EVER!
All my dreams were coming true, but it felt all so unreal and my jetlag didn’t help in making me think I was hallucinating. My sister then tapped my shoulder which shook me out of my trance and I hopped in the car, put on my seat belt and looked straight ahead. Like a deer in headlights, I couldn't look at him. My sister then got in the passenger seat, the car started and then we were off.
I was completely shut down from being in the same car as Soobin, like who would’ve thought this could happen. Why would she keep a secret like this from me! She knew that I was his fan! While I started spiraling I felt a tap on my shoulder.
“Hello y/n..”
HOLY SHIT HE’S TALKING TO ME!!!!!
I bow my head and greet him back, although I could never make eye contact with him, or else I actually might pass out.
“Hello…”
“Oh let me introduce you to my boyfriend y/n, you haven’t met him have you.”
I lifted my head and who do I see but Choi Yeonjun looking at me through the rearview mirror. HUHHHHHHHH!?!?!?!??!
At this point I must be hallucinating, having a manic episode or something.
“Hello y/n! Nice to meet you!”
“Hello…” I bow my head in the same manner, never making eye contact again because I may roll over and die.
“Y/n you should tell them about your new job!” My sister looks back at me with glistening eyes and a wide grin on her face. Oh she knew, she knew how much I had adored them over the years and yet she never thought to tell me. So she has been dating a globally famous K-pop star for five years and never thought to tell me about it! I'm pissed…it's silent for a moment and I clear my throat.
“I’m going to be working at Hype entertainment as the company’s graphic artist for a year.” my voice was quiet and shaky as I looked down at my hands.
“Whaaaa” they both exclaim in unison
“At our company? That’s great!” Yeonjun winks at me through the mirror.
STOPPPP! This can’t be happening! I was aware that I might be meeting K-pop stars and k-drama stars while working at the company but right as I touch down in the country, I’m met with my ult bias and one of his members…who is dating my sister!!!!
