Guts stares for a second, two more, craning his neck like a hunter aiming skywards during fowling, looking it all over as if searching for defect in the cathedral’s construction, as if willing it to fall apart with his gaze alone. Then, he makes a fist out of less-than tissue, frozen metal tendons moving with all the weariness of a hand once pierced, and he lands a punch but earns a crack, again and again until Griffith’s face shatters.
