Chapter Text
It was a rainy night outside. Lilith was very frustrated by her lack of sleep. Her groggy, tired eyes stared at the computer screen, watching intently some random video at the internet. After weeks of repeating this every night, today she decided to do something different. She tried opening FL Studio and making some songs. Something good this time. Something epic…
— WHY CAN’T I DO ANYTHING?? — Said Lilith, 30 minutes after starting producing songs, completely sucking at it. All her agony and frustration by her lack of ability ended up waking Casey up. They slowly open their eyes, let out a big yawn and calmly say — Chill out, girl… Go to sleep, it's late… Besides- — Lilith interrupted — I know it’s late! I just want to do something!! It can’t be THAT hard, you make it look like it’s easy as fuck! — Said Lilith, frustrated. — Oh, c’mon. It’s not like my songs are that good… And it’s not as easy to make as you think it is… — They yawn again — Just go to sleep… —
Some time passes, and Lilith still can’t produce any good song. — Oh, come on… Why it’s so hard? I think I should do what Casey said… — Lilith then turn off her computer and lay down in her small bed. Her eyes wander through her small room, thinking about the song she was making. But, even though she was very tired, for some reason she couldn’t sleep… She noticed her old books in the shelf, and decided to go read something to see if this helps her sleep. She gets on the shelf and have some trouble deciding which book she’ll read — Well, here we have… some old ass encyclopedias, books teaching witchcraft, and… romance books? I don’t remember this being here… Did Casey bought it? I’ll ask them tomorrow. — She decides to read some witchcraft book. It’s just for to get sleep, she doesn’t plan on actually doing it… right?
After some time reading, she got an idea. An incredibly stupid idea. — I think I could use some of this witchcraft to… I dunno, maybe make myself better at making music? — She said to herself.
Some hours pass, the next day arrives, and Casey immediately notices something weird with Lilith. It seems like she had woken up in a bad mood — Hey Lil’, you okay? — Casey asks. — Perfectly fine, thank you. — Lilith answers in a rude tone. It’s clear that she isn’t fine. Casey just thinks she’s in a bad mood and decided to go prepare some breakfast with the little food they have.
— So, sis. Did something happen? — Casey asks, while frying some eggs. — No… I already said I’m fine, dang it! Why’s you so damn curious? — — I ain’t “curious”, okay? — They sigh — I’m just preoccupied with you, Lilith. Did something happen last night that irritated you? Was I rude telling you to go to sleep? If I was, I really apolo- — Lilith interrupts — It isn’t your fault. It’s just… — She shrugs — Do ya remember those books we had in our shelf? — They widen his eyes a little — Well, about these… Don’t judge me, I just thought their cover was really cute, so I got some- — — I’m talking about the witchcraft ones, dumbass! — Lilith quickly says, a bit angry. Casey then responds — Oh, yeah, yeah. What about them? — — When the quiet atmosphere of the cold night was lingering through my body, and the desire for the creation of art was surpassing my need to rest, I’ve succumbed to the temptation of the “easy shortcut” to glory, and decided to attempt doing witchcrafts to achieve the desired ability to make art like I really want to, to produce those astonishing songs that have been haunting my head for so many time… But then, after I made such thing, I started feeling… Weird. After doing so, I immediately went to sleep, because, well, it was very late, and had one of the most atrocious nightmares of my life. I won’t even dare to explain how excruciating it was, but trust me, I don’t want to ever experience something close to it again. Then, after that, I woke up and noticed something weird about myself… I felt so different. So weird… I don’t feel like I’m alone with myself, do you understand that? I feel like there’s something in my head, something I can’t take off... I really should not have done that. — Lilith says, sighing in the end like it was something she wanted to say since she noticed that. — Woah. — Casey is left speechless, trying to fully comprehend Lilith’s speech.
Some minutes of pure silence passes, and now they’re eating the eggs Casey has prepared. — So… Do you think everything went well yesterday? — Casey asks, shyly. — No… I don’t know exactly what happened, I don’t remember everything… It's just… I know there’s something with me now. I can feel it. And it feels terrible. — Lilith’s voice is quieter and hoarser now. She seems quieter than usual.
Some hours pass with Lilith locking herself in her room, doing God knows what there. It’s night now, and Casey just returned to their apartment after a long day out. They were tired, and probably wouldn’t bear to make any more effort, but they knew something was wrong with their friend, and they would never let that slide. Casey slowly walks towards their shared room and knocks on the door. — Everything’s fine there, pal? — They ask, even already knowing the answer. — Go away... — Answer Lilith in a weak voice. She doesn’t sound like she has any energy to discuss about that either. Casey sighs, but not in annoyance. — Can I come in? — Some silent seconds that felt like an eternity pass, as if she’s thinking if she could let they enter or not, even though that room was Casey’s too, but in the end, Lilith’s says, almost inaudibly, a quick “Yes.”.
Casey gently opens the door and sees Lilith laid on her bed, silent and with an unreadable expression. — We... need to talk... — She says quietly, as if she’s trying to hide her emotions.
As they walk closer, their steps seemed to get heavier, and when they sat down in bed, at Lilith’s side, they finally spoke up. — It is about that thing you told me earlier? — — Yes... I’ve read a bit and... — She gulped — I think I know what happened... I’m hearing voices. There’s something in my head... — She sat down — After what I did last night, and that horrible nightmare, I feel like there's something with me. Or someone. I don’t know yet... just... — Lilith stopped herself, thinking about how to continue it. After seconds of pure silence, Casey slowly wraps an arm around Lilith’s shoulder. — It’s ok, buddy. Everything will be alright, I promise you. Just please, let me know what’s happening so I can help you. — Lilith breaks down by that. She was not expecting it at all and didn’t knew how to react to it. She stays silent for some time, trying to process everything that’s happening, but she simply couldn’t do it. Casey could feel their shoulders getting wet, as Lilith started tearing up. — I’m possessed. I’m almost sure I'm possessed by a demon. I can hear they talk in my head, I can! You ca- probably ca- I don’t... — Her phrases start getting unintelligible as she cries even more. — I-I don’t think you can... help me on this... I only know I can’t help myself... — She continues crying, this time don’t wanting to say anything. — I... I think I get it... — Casey whispers as she starts to caress Lilith’s head, trying to calm her down.
An hour pass, and Lilith is now laid on her bed, trying to get some sleep, something she almost don't do, since she always sleep past 4AM, while Casey is in their own bed, focused on the book in hand, trying to find a solution. — Hey, Casey... — She speaks up, trying to not make a lot of noise. — Do you promise to not tell this to anyone? — Casey puts their book down and look straight to her eyes. — Yes. I promise. —
