Chapter Text
No matter how much he tried to grasp how his life had turned this way, Gao Tu was unable to wrap his head around it every time he thought about it.
Who would’ve said that he, former scrappy “beta” just getting by day by day, spending most of his money on drugs to suppress his omega qualities and worrying endlessly about his ill sister, had turned out to live the way he was living now?
He had a great home-office job that allowed him to stay in the comfort of his well-furnished apartment and paid him fairly well, allowing him to live quite comfortably, almost upper middle-class (meaning he was no longer under the suffocation of being Shen Wenlang’s secretary, yay).
The abuse of suppressants was no more. He had come clean off them years ago, five almost six years ago to be exact; his sister was no longer sick, she was now healthy and thriving, working in her dream job, visiting his home every time she had the chance; though perhaps the greatest changes could be narrowed down to two, though he didn’t know in what order to place them. Which one was the most shocking?
Well, he was a father, or, mom… he had breastfed his son as a baby, and Gao Lele, his son, did indeed called him “ma”- anyways! He had a son. That’s it. The light of his life and the reason he had ended the abuse of suppressants in the first place. As soon as he realized he was pregnant, he had stopped using them.
And part of that change in his life was the fact that Gao Lele’s dad was no one but Shen Wenglang himself. You could see why Gao Tu had had to run far far away from that alpha, as much as he had loved him, his son’s wellbeing was first in his mind, and knowing that Shen Wenlang would force him to abort… that had given hmi enough reasons in his heart and mind to escape never to be seen by him again.
So, Gao Lele was five years old right now and had come to the world a healthy baby. He had no problems whatsoever so far, and Gao Tu had thanked all the deities in the world that his baby had not suffered an ounce for his suppressant-fueled past.
All the pediatrics told him that Gao Lele was healthy, every time. As healthy as they come. Which was to be expected based on who his mom was.
Because the other change was that Gao Tu had discovered that he just wasn’t an ordinary omega, no no, his life could never just be calm and peaceful like that, allowing him to be common and just another person. The stopped usage of the suppressants had let clear the path for his true gender identity to flourish.
He was a Luna.
Just, you know, the most lulu of omegas.
The omega.
He had been meant to live a life as an omega so sought after and so respected, but his premature and constant use of drugs to subdue these qualities since he presented restrained his omega Luna to develop as it should had. When his body got rid of the last bit of suppressant in his blood, the years of his withheld nature sprung out of him at once.
It hadn’t been painful, just… new. His doctor had told him that if he hadn’t been a Luna, the amount of suppressants he had taken throughout his life would’ve killed him or at least done irreversible damage to his insides, and worst of all, he surely wouldn’t had been able to endure not even three months of pregnancy before a miscarriage happened.
Him being a Luna had been the only thing that had saved his life and his son’s.
So… what does being a Luna meant?
Well, he was an omega, alright, he did and endured what other omegas did, but he also possessed some rather unique abilities. Firstly, his compatibility with any alpha, beta, or even other omega, was always over 85% percent, meaning, he was the perfect mate for everyone in the world, no matter their subgender.
Unlike Enigmas (which he wasn’t even sure existed, but if he did, why couldn’t Enigmas exist as well?) who could impregnate other Alphas, a Luna could be impregnated by anyone: alpha, beta, or even omega. That’s also the reason he was so easy to impregnate and why he had ended up pregnant on his first time.
You see? Perfect mate!
His pheromones could also make his commands irresistible for other people, even Alphas. He also had more power over them than they did over him. Their pheromones, though they could faze him, he could fight off if he really tried.
Gao Tu had suddenly become the most alluring omega he knew of while pregnant, and he couldn’t really keep his anxiety under control the first times people approached him or did as he told them without a second thought. It was weird. He had never had so much authority over anyone.
Lucky for him, he had reconnected by chance with one childhood friend, an alpha, who didn’t mind scenting him to calm him down, and didn’t mind helping Gao Tu on his pregnancy. He was even there for Gao Lele’s birth!
And another thing… he didn’t mind helping Gao Tu every now and then when his, now pleasurable beyond imagination and very healthy heats, came to visit.
Because being able to pay for all his and Lele’s necessities and more, having a no high-stakes job with an abusive boss he secretly was in love with, with no ill siblings, no suppressant addiction, healthy and more powerful than the average omegas, had given him a new-found confidence to speak his mind, live his life and his sexuality just as he liked.
Though that man, Ma Heng, was just a friend.
For some reason, Gao Tu could never come to rest with the idea of dating him. His pheromones weren’t just exciting enough for that. A long-term relationship, the father to his son. No thanks. As much as Lele loved his uncle, he could never be more than that.
It was as if Gao Tu was the perfect mate for everyone, but not everyone was the perfect mate for him.
Apart from that though, Gao Tu’s life was better than ever. Better than he had ever dreamt it could be. He hoped it would stay like that for the rest of time.
But alas, how much longer could his back luck stay at bay? It had given him enough of a break.
Time to come back.
Ma Heng was in his apartment more often than not. He had been practically Gao Tu’s hero since he found out Gao Tu was pregnant. He had gone pick up Lele from school during his break at the office and dropped him off in Gao Tu’s home because Gao Tu had been stuck in an online meeting and was unable to hang up before it was time to pick up Lele.
He had even passed through some drive thru restaurant to fetch something for Lele and Gao Tu to eat since he was sure Gao Tu hadn’t been able to cook something… and he was right.
Though days that busy for Gao Tu rarely happened. He could usually disappear from his computer to pick up Lele from school and cook something, but some days they really needed him to deliver reports with urgency or attend meetings, and those were the days where he needed Ma Heng’s help the most.
He heard keys jiggling just as the meeting finished and he said the farewells to everyone. The door opened and Lele entered running, followed by a Ma Heng behind him, carrying the pup’s backpack.
“Ma!” Lele shouted, running to Gao Tu and hugging his legs.
“Lele!” screamed Gao Tu in return, taking Lele in his arms to carry him, “How are you? How was school today?” he asked his pup with a gentle voice as Lele buried his face in ma’s neck to smell his calming sage scent.
Lele’s smile disappeared slowly once he retracted, though, all happiness evaporated from his little body, and Gao Tu’s blood went cold. He leaned his head a little closer to Lele, but the kid just adverted his gaze, focusing on playing with his fingers instead.
Gao Tu decided to focus on Ma Heng then. Ma Heng gave him a look and a sigh.
“Lele, why don’t you tell your ma what you told me in the car?” said Ma Heng to Lele in a tender voice.
Lele made a face, pursing his lips a little before speaking.
“I… may… have gotten in a little trouble today…” Gao Tu heard Lele’s tiny voice.
Gao Tu gasped a little, feigning surprise to make Lele feel more at ease. He wasn’t mad.
“You? In trouble?” asked Gao Tu nudging Lele with his arms, “Why, Lele?”
“I… may have… hit another kid in class.”
Gao Tu closed his eyes in defeat.
“In the face.”
He had always assumed this day would come.
The day his baby exhibited the savage tendencies of his father.
But now was not the time to silently damn Wenlang, he needed to know what had happened to his baby first.
“You hit a kid? Lele, you know that’s not a thing you should do! That’s not nice, hitting hurts.” Gao Tu tried to gentle-parent his child.
Lele whined at that, “That kid bit me!” he defended himself.
Now Gao Tu was surprised at that, he turned to look at Ma Heng before focusing fully on Lele again.
“What do you mean “he bit you”?”
Lele nodded, “He bit my arm, mommy. Really hard.”
Lele pushed up his arm his sweater sleeve to show Gao Tu the bite. Luckily, it wasn’t as deep as Gao Tu had imagined, but a light bruise was already forming. No blood had been drawn though.
“I didn’t cry. I hit him in the face.” Lele finished almost proudly.
Gao Tu lowered the pup to the ground, worried, “Okay, um… next time that kid bites you please tell a teacher, don’t take matters into your own hands. Don’t hit him again, okay? But please tell a teacher and me if it happens again.”
The pup nodded, seemingly not as ashamed of his actions anymore, “Okay, ma.”
The omega sent him to wash his hands to eat and seized the moment alone with Ma Heng to voice his concerns.
Ma Heng offered the omega a tender smile as Gao Tu reached him with a few steps. “I’m worried. Aren’t they too young to be displaying dominance behavior? Or worse, marking behavior!?”
The alpha grasped Gao Tu by both arms and gently squeezed his biceps, “Relax, Tutu, it’s totally fine. Some kids can’t find the urge to bite things they like from an early age. Especially kids that have alpha parents or heavy alpha genes in them. It’s fine, they don’t know what it means.”
Gao Tu frowned, not really feeling better, “Did you bite a lot of kids when you were a kid?” he asked, Ma Heng shrugged, “I used to bite my parents and my favorite teachers until I was like, ten.”
That made Gao Tu laugh, “I don’t believe that for a second.”
“I promise!” whined Ma Heng, “Ask my dad, he will testify.”
Gao Tu rolled his eyes, calmer now, just in time for Lele to come back.
Everything would be okay. No one would hurt Lele. He had hit a kid in the face after being bitten, Gao Tu didn’t have to worry about his baby not being able to defend himself.
He was braver than Gao Tu could ever be. Maybe he had to thank Shen Wenlang’s genes a little bit.
Anyways, what was up with him remembering Shen Wenlang so often today?
It was as if the universe was trying to tell him something…
