Melodies of Hope

Summary:

"One drabble a day keeps the shrink away."

Collection of drabbles from the prompts of the Season of Fluff.
I'll be posting one drabble everyday during October.

Notes:

In most of these stories Clint Nat and Laura are in an established polyamourous relationship.

Other characters and couples might show up in some chapter.

Chapter 1: One: Pumpkin picking.

Notes:

This is set in a time where Nate isn't born yet, or even conceived.

Chapter Text

Lila and Cooper are running around the pumpkin patch, going from one squash to another.

"This one looks funny!" Lila points at a misshapen pumpkin. "Can we get it? Please?"

"Yeah! Can we get it, dad? Please! It'll make a great jack-o-lantern!"

"Isn't it early for lanterns?"

"What else are we going to do with pumpkins?" Lila asks, clearly confused.

"Pumpkin pie!" Clint declares, already salivating. "Pumpkin bread!"

"I'm making soup," Laura tells them.

"Ugh, you're always making soup," Cooper laments.

"What about you, Nat?" Laura asks her. "What do you want?"

"To enjoy the season with our family."

"Sap."

Chapter 2: Two: Bonfires

Summary:

Natasha reminisces.

Notes:

Ivan Kupala, also known as Kupala Night, is a slavic holiday, happening around 6-7 July in Russia, where people would, among other things, light bonfires, bath, dance and sing.

Chapter Text

As Natasha recalls about Ivan Kupala, the kids are hanging to her every words.

"Then, we would jump over the fire."

"And you didn't get burned?"

"No, but you probably shouldn't try it. Your mom would kill me if you'd got hurt."

"How did you jump over a bonfire. It's so tall!"

"We had smaller ones and bigger ones. We'd jump over the little ones."

Clint and Laura watches them while sipping cider.

"They're loving her stories."

"It's nice she still has some good memories about Russia. It's important for the kids that she can share her roots with them."

Chapter 3: Three: Apple Picking

Notes:

Set around AoU, either before or after the mess with Ultron.

Chapter Text

The whole family goes apple picking today. The kids are already on a mission to find the best fruits of the orchard.

Natasha plucks an apple from a low branch and takes a bite. "Mmh, delicious!"

Clint is frowning. "Really, Nat?"

She shrugs. "I'm eating for two."

"You know Laura is the one pregnant, not you, right?"

Nat shrugs again. "Same thing."

He looks around looking for the kids. Spotting them, he calls: "Kids, don't go too far!"

Cooper yells back: "Okay!" then runs further away.

Laura rolls her eyes. "Kids! Heel!"

"Really, Laur'?" Clint asks, bewildered.

"What? It works!"

Chapter 4: Four: Sunflower

Summary:

Ohio family meeting Iowa family.

Notes:

I slipped... I don't think this can be considered fluff. Here, have it anyway.

Chapter Text

Natasha doesn't remember the last time she has felt this anxious. Tonight Melina and Alexei are coming to the farm for dinner and she's half expecting a disaster.

All too soon, her parental figures are there, in the home she's sharing with her two partners and three children and everyone is introducing themself.

Alexei is handing Laura a bouquet of sunflower in a beautiful ceramic vase, telling her "Natka told us they were your favorites."

Melina adds: "In keeping with that theme, here's some sunflower seed halva."

Alexei looks at his daughter, silently asking "Did we do good?"

They did.

Chapter 5: Five: Baking

Summary:

It's Laura's birthday.

Chapter Text

With both hands full with four bags of groceries, Laura expertly opens and closes the front door with her hip. She comes to an halt suddenly.

"What happened to my kitchen?!"

All three children plus Natasha share guilty looks. It looks like a truck of flour has exploded in the room.

"We were baking you a birthday cake?"

"Is that all you did?"

"We were fighting," Lila admits.

"Nate started it!" Cooper tells on his brother.

Natasha smirked impishly. "Cheer up, buttercup!"

The redhead throws a handful of flour in Laura's direction. Her aim is true.

"Oh, this is war!"
