Confessions At Midnight

Summary:

Great Smurf, they were down bad for each other. And it looked like that she was going to be the one to have to confess.

But when she tried, she just couldn’t do it.

Why!? She was Smurfstorm, best archer in the Forbidden Forest, Captain of the Prime Aerial Defence Team, Dragonfly-tamer and all-around badass.

…So why in the, to use a human swear word, fuck was she unable to do this!?

(During a midnight flight, Smurfstorm tries to confess to Clumsy).

Work Text:

Storm sighed as she looked at Clumsy. Her…friend was looking around with wonder in his eyes as they flew through the skies, one hand on the hand and the other on her waist to keep himself from losing his hat or falling off.

The hand on her waist got her blushing as she resisted the urge to hold that hand. Or kiss it. Or nuzzle it with her cheek.

…What was with her these days?

She knew the problem. At first, she had fervently denied it but then she came to a profound realisation.

She loved Clumsy. She loved him so much that it made her hard to keep up her tough-girl guise around him. To keep her mind off of him.

She couldn’t just help it. It was near impossible.

Clumsy was so…kind. He was a good friend and somehow, he always knew the right words to say to cheer her up after a long day. He always knew what to do to make her crack a smile. To live a little more.

And that smile…that damned smile. By the Great Smurf, why was he so adorable!? Between the warm smiles and looks he would shoot at her, his laughter that caused her heart to flutter and so many other things.

Oh, she was so hopelessly in love with this boy.

And…judging from what she had observed, so was Clumsy.

And now, all of her sisters had teased her about it one way or another. Even her own teammates were conspiring against her! Even her own mother and Elder, Willow, had teased her about it.

“He’s such a nice boy. I can guess why you like him so much.”

“Mom!”

“What? Can’t I be happy that my little Storm has found love?”

Traitors. All of them. Every single last one of them.

Still, they had a point…and she knew damn well that some of the others had an interest in him as well. And she…she didn’t want to lose him like that.

So, tonight, this very night she promised herself that she was going to confess to Clumsy or die trying—!

“Hey, Storm?”

She couldn’t help but jump at the voice and turned to face Clumsy, trying to keep her nervousness from showing, “Yeah, Clumsy?”

“Can we go down there?” Clumsy pointed to a clearing, “I think I saw some rocks down there.”

“…Oh,” Storm said before nodding, “Okay.”

And then she was watching as Clumsy searched through the clearing for any rocks with a big dopey smile on his face and his tongue sticking out adorably. All the while, she stood there, drumming her fingers against her bow.

“…I’m doomed,” Storm whimpered. It got worse when Spitfire laughed at her, which got Clumsy’s attention.

“Is everything alright? What’s so funny?”

“Nothing…” Storm huffed, glaring at Spitfire, “Just my own Dragonfly laughing at me.”

“Why?” Clumsy asked as he approached, tilting his head.

“Because he—, SPITFIRE, YOU SON OF A BITCH!”

One moment, she was talking to Clumsy. The next, she was colliding him because Storm slapped her hard across the back. After they had fell, Storm shot a glare at Spitfire who laughed before turning to Clumsy and asking, “You alright…”

She trailed off upon noticing the position they were in. She was on top of him, straddling him slightly. Their noses were touching, and their lips were inches apart.

“…”

“…”

“…Well, thank the Great Smurf that no one’s here but us,” Clumsy nervously chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck.

“Y-Yeah…” Storm concurred with a shaky smile. And then silence reigned once more as they lied there, staring into each other’s eyes.

…you know what? Fuck it.

“I love you,” Storm declared before planting her lips on top of Clumsy’s gently, eliciting a surprised gasp from Clumsy. After a few moments, Clumsy returned the kiss, raising a hand to rest on her cheek which she happily leaned into.

After a minute or so, they separated to catch their breath, faces flushed.

“…I love you too,” Clumsy declared, nuzzling their noses together. Storm chuckled before getting up and lying down next to him, wrapping her arms around him as they stared up at the night sky, “So…does this mean we’re dating?”

“In my eyes…yes. You?”

“Same,” Clumsy chuckled, “I’ve been meaning to confess but…”

“Too shy?”

“Yeah…” Clumsy nodded as he held her hand…
