Work Text:
Rin stared at the bleeding man lying in front of her, his abdomen stabbed by a katana sword, but it wasn't just any sword; this was the sharpest sword in the north.
"How could you leave me?" she asked him, choking on her words.
Obito gave her a small smile. "I didn’t want to."
Rin screamed, "You promised me that we would live to see the end of it!”
"I know," Obito began, turning his head away, not wanting to face the dejected woman, "I’m sorry."
"I think it's a little too late for that..." Rin tugged on one of Obito's arms, placing his hand on her breast. "I was going to marry you, did you ever know that?"
A faint forced laugh came from Obito, "I could finally get you that dream house you've always wanted since you were little."
Rin didn't hesitate to snort out loud, "You fool, I would much rather have you alive than have fifty million dream houses."
Obito turned his head around to face Rin. "Where would we live then?"
"If you stay alive, we'll discuss that later."
Obito took the time to take note of Rin's features. Her chocolate brown eyes no longer held the usual sparkle. Her always short, chocolate brown hair somehow manages to get tangled. And, her hands that were still holding onto his arm were warm; her body heat comforted Obito during his inevitable final moments.
Finally, he spoke again, "At least I could claim that you were the one to propose and not me."
"I could get down on one knee if you'd like."
Obito shook his head. "No, you don't have to do that for me." He pulled his hand away from her breasts and instead, placed her hand on his broad but bleeding chest, "Do you feel this? This is enough for me to know that our hearts feel the same way for each other."
"Oh, Obito," Rin gasped, "We're going to get through this together, don't worry, you'll be just fine."
A tear fell down on Obito's cheek. "Rin Nohara, you are one of a kind. I just don't think anyone in this horrid but oh so beautiful world deserves you."
"What are you saying?"
Obito closed his eyes shut, "In the next life, I promise to find you and repay you back for everything you've done for me in this lifetime," Obito whispered, barely detectable to Rin's eyes.
A still silence followed soon after Obito's heartfelt words, and his skin turned cold. Rin buried her face in his chest, although no tears came down her face, a strangled sob came from her dried throat, "We were supposed to get married. We'd have three children, ten dogs, ten cats, three parrots, and a raccoon. You and I were going to live out our happily ever after together, so why am I holding you like this?"
