“You are fairly presenting as feminine, Cassius.” Taurus said rather bluntly, but he said most everything bluntly.
“Well are you straight?” Cassius wasn’t too sure why he asked that. It was more of a spur of the moment type of thing. And while Cassius was usually composed and calm, being around Taurus for as long as he has, temporarily living with him while he trained his powers, Cassius had gotten a lot more confident and comfortable with the bull. Well, as much as he could.
“Straight?” Taurus responded. He sounded so confused but also weary at the time. It made Cassius hold in a laugh that made him almost forget the accusation that was more of a fact.
“As in- only liking girls,” Taurus’ student tried to explain how people on earth viewed sexuality. He didn't think he'd ever have to have this conversation with his mentor. And he certainly didn't want to explain why some humans thought they had some sort of disease if you weren’t “straight” even though most animal species possess the quality.
“‘Liking’ women?”
Boy it sure was something to see Taurus of all people use air quotations.
“Only being attracted to the female gender. Like romantically, I guess.” Cassius said, kind of hesitantly. This wasn’t as hard as he presumed it to be, but it still was strange to explain, like explaining a foreign concept to a child. Except that child was an almost 8 foot tall god-like being with the power to destroy worlds. No pressure.
“I see. Where I come from, we don’t feel attraction the same way your people do. We simply do. There is no logical reason to complicate it.”
Okay so that made sense to Cassius at least.
“To put it simply,” Cassius felt like he just got called dumb indirectly, not on purpose, but still. “We do not give ourselves ‘labels’ as you do. It is quite simple, they will be attracted to whoever they are attracted to, regardless of any preferences they might have. Though again, that is still a complicated way of trying to find your life long partner.” Taurus continued, it had all made sense, Cassius wished he was so simple minded. Well. Taurus wasn’t simple minded, he feared he would get pummeled if he ever said that.
‘Lifelong partner’ just sounded a lot like animals mating for life. Which made Cassius feel weird about the situation. Not weird. But, peculiar. He didn't know how to approach that part of the point that his mentor made.
“So- you guys.. Love for life?” Cassius asked cautiously, not wanting to say anything wrong about the bull man's culture. Whatever that culture was.
“In a way, I suppose. Most of our kind have their personal preferences, of course. But we all have the same general understanding of attraction.” Cassius could tell that Taurus was trying his best to explain an entire different world's culture. But the smaller man was nodding along, he knew that this moment felt special, even if it wasn’t.
“That makes sense.. Our world kind of has that same idea but it's different for every region and such. I guess it’s different for every person really.” Cassius responded. This felt nice, just sitting here after training, just… talking. Casually, like the two could ever be casual. Taurus is intimidating and very blunt, and while he’s been learning from Cosmos, he still isn't the most emotionally intelligent. And Cassius is just his student, a 23 year old, half alien from Earth whose powers magically awakened one day. What a combo.
