Here is the first book in my soulmate series I've been meaning to write for days.

There will be many books in the series. Some of them are not biologically related to the Mikaelsons, but it will be explained in Marcel's book. Which is also many books away.

In order, we have Elijah, Klaus, Rebekah, Kol, Finn, Marcel, Cami, Davina, Freya, and Hope.

Cami is also getting one bc I can't leave my girl out and I've never written a fic for her before. Davina and Marcel are Mikaelsons anyway, but all three of them getting a soulmate will be explained in their books.

Hope will be the only one that gets a book bc she is a canon character. So if any of them have kids, they will also be in Hope's book but they won't have a book that involves them and their soulmate. But I might decide to give them one in Hope's book.

Many of the books will start at the same time because they all get introduced at the same time. I will have which chapter goes where in the start notes once the Klaus book is out.

For now, Elijah is the only one so enjoy.

Chapter 1: Soulmate Bond

Chapter Text

A thousand years ago, before the Mikaelson siblings were born, Esther Mikaelson had made a deal with her sister.

Mikael and Esther could not conceive on their own. So Esther had went to Dahlia to help her have children.

That day, one deal was set in place. The firstborn child would be taken after five years, and she would be raised by Dahlia so she can grow her magic. She would never be seen again.

But a second deal was made.

For Dahlia to have immense power, she'd have to have firstborns continuing through the Mikaelson lineage. So she made a second deal.

For every Mikaelson that is born after Esther, they will have a soulmate.

Every soulmate born for each Mikaelson will be tied to Dahlia. She will be able to sense where they are. They will be tied to her until her ultimate death.

But they will also be tied to their soulmate, forever.

Every Mikaelson will be born with a mark, one their soulmate shares at their birth.

The Mikaelson's lineage will be long and wide.

Because when Esther turned her children into vampires, Dahlia had altered the soulmate bond that night.

The Mikaelsons will meet their soulmate one by one in the same time frame. They will all be born centuries from that day, but born in the same century as each other.

Dahlia had made sure that the Mikaelson line would continue.

She had altered the soulmate bond to the vampire species.

She had made sure the Original vampires could procreate with their soulmate.

And when they find them, Dahlia will awaken when it is her time to take that child they had created from them.

Esther had made a deal.

She broke it.

Dahlia made a new one.

And Esther has no choice in living up to it.

Chapter 2: Rose

Chapter Text

Mia Salvatore stands at the doorway of the basement, her eyes on the scene before her.

Standing at the door where Zach and Mia used to keep the vervain, is Damon Salvatore, her - however many greats - uncle, in front of him Zach Salvatore, the third living descendant of the Salvatores.

Mia watches from around the corner, her eyes wide as Damon grabs her father's neck, twisting it until his body slumps.

Damon runs out of the room, noticing Mia, but he lets her be. It's her father. And she deserves to see him dead.

Mia cries out, rushing over to her father's body laying on the ground and shaking him. "Papa! Papa, please! Please, wake up!"

Mia doesn't know how long she was sitting on the ground, clutching her father's body to her, tears streaming down her face. The only thing she knows is when her uncle came at the sound of her cries.

Stefan Salvatore stands above her, his sad eyes on her and Zach.

"He killed him, Uncle Stefan." Mia cries, her head looking up at the vampire. "Uncle Damon killed Dad."

***

Mia gasps awake, her body going up in a sitting position, her eyes looking around frantically.

The last thing she remembers is a gasp from her friend, Elena Gilbert, and then something smashing against her head.

They were at the masquerade party where Stefan and Damon were going to kill Katherine even though they were supposed to stay at home.

Amara Sommers and Mia were supposed to stay home and make sure Elena doesn't leave, but then Mia caught Elena sneaking out of the house. It was a dumb idea to go with her.

Bonnie and Nova Bennett were the ones who put the spell on the room so no vampire could get out.

Jeremy Gilbert was the one to trick Katherine into going to Caroline Forbes on why he was supposedly luring her out to the lake.

Evelyn Salvatore was making sure the whole plan went well, listening around the party on where Katherine went.

Another witch, Bonnie and Nova's cousin, had tied Katherine to Elena so that whatever the Salvatore brothers did to her, they'd do to Elena. So, she is, in fact, not dead.

Mia looks at the edge of the couch, gasping at the sight of her best friend. "Elena!" She whisper-yells, crawling over to her and shaking her.

Elena stirs awake, her eyes blinking open at the touch on her arm. "Mia?"

Mia sighs in relief, whispering, "Where are we?"

Elena shrugs, sitting up. "I'm not sure. Two vampires kidnapped us. They didn't tell me what they wanted with either of us."

"How's the girl?" A female voice asks from another room, drawing the two girls quiet.

"Still passed out." The man replies.

"You didn't touch her, did you?"

"Give me some credit." The man says. "So you called him?"

Elena and Mia give each other confused looks.

"No, I called one of his contacts." The woman says. "You know how this works."

"Did you or did you not get the message to Elijah?"

"Eljah?" Mia whispers as they both stand up, walking towards the doorway that they hear the voices.

The two peek around a corner before walking into the hall carefully and quietly as the two vampires talk.

"They say he got it." The woman says.

"Wonderful. And what?"

"So that's it, Trevor. He either got it or he didn't. We just have to wait."

"Look, i-it's not too late. We can leave her here. We don't have to go through with this."

"I'm sick of running."

"Yeah?" Trevor says. "Well, running keeps us from dying."

Mia and Elena keep their eyes on the vampires as they inch towards the door, careful not to step on any loose floorboards.

"Elijah's old-school." The woman says. "If he accepts our deal, we're free."

A floorboard creaks underneath Elena's foot, making Mia suck in a breath.

"You!" The woman says sharply, walking to stand in front of them. "There's nothing around here for miles. If you think you're getting out of this house you're tragically wrong, understand?" Her eyes go to Mia. "And you, make one wrong move and your being eaten earlier than expected."

Mia whimpers, taking a step back from the vampire.

"Who's Elijah?" Elena asks before the woman could leave.

"He's your worst nightmare." She says before she walks back in the room, leaving the two girls there.

Elena looks at the Salvatore beside her who gives her a look, already knowing what she's going to do.

"Elena, no-"

Elena's already following after Rose.

"Why are we here?" Elena asks, standing on the stairs with Mia beside her, watching the woman.

"You keep asking me these questions like I'm gonna answer them." The woman says, her head not even turning to them.

"Why won't you?"

"That's another one." She says, picking up a board from the floor.

"You got us, okay?" Elena says, walking down the steps. "It's not like we can go anywhere. The least you can do is tell me what you want with us."

"I personally want nothing. I'm just a delivery service." The woman says, walking back to the table in the room littered with books. "She, however, was in the way so she's a free meal."

Mia takes a fearful step back.

"Deilvery to who?" Elena asks, holding Mia's arm protectively. "Elijah?"

The woman chuckles. "Two points to the eavesdropper."

"Who is he? Is he a vampire?"

"He's one of the vampires - the Originals."

Elena's brows furrow. "What do you mean the Originals?"

"Again with the questions. Haven't the Salvatores been teaching you vampire history?"

"There's no such thing as Originals." Mia speaks up. "Uncle Stefan taught me everything there is to know. He never mentioned any of that."

"Oh, they're real, alright. They're just out of the loop."

Elena draws to a conclusion. "So you know Stefan and Damon?"

"I know of them." The woman replies, flipping through a book. "A hundred years back, a friend of mine tried to set me up with Stefan. She said he was one of the good ones. More of a sucker for the bad boys, though, but I digress."

"Who are the Originals?" Elena asks, crossing her arms, standing in the middle of the room. Mia stands beside her.

The woman turns around. "Trevor and I have been running for five-hundred years. We're tired. We want it over." She answers. "We're using you to negotiate ourselves out of an old mess."

"But why me?"

"Because you're a Petrova doppelganger. You're the key to breaking the curse."

Elena's brows furrow. "Curse?" She thinks for a second before she realizes. "The sun and the moon curse?"

"Oh, you do know your history."

Mia hums. "Actually, we learned that from someone else. Stefan and Damon didn't know."

"What do you mean I'm the key?" Elena asks, approaching her. "The moonstone is what breaks the curse."

"No. The moonstone is what binds the curse." The woman corrects. "Sacrifice is what breaks it."

Mia's brows raise in surprise.

"Sacrifice?"

"You have to die, Elena." Mia realizes.

The woman nods. "The blood of the doppelganger. You're the doppelganger." She points out. "Which means in order to break the curse you're the one that has to die."

Mia jumps when she feels hands on her neck. She spins to find Trevor staring at her like she's his next meal. And she is.

"Mia." Elena says, making the Salvatore turn and rush over to her friend. Elena turns back to the woman. "Tell me more."

"Captivity's made her pushy, eh?" Trevor says, grabbing a board to block the sunlight still filtering in. "What do you wanna know, doppelicious?"

"Who are you running from?" Elena asks him.

"The Originals." Trevor replies, walking to them after putting up the board, his hand burned slightly from the light.

"You already asked that, Elena." Mia whispers, leaning over to the brunette.

"Yeah, she said that." Elena nods her head to the woman. "What does that mean?"

"The first family." Trevor kicks a book on the ground, Mia yelping when it almost hits her. "The old world." He points at the woman. "Rose and I pissed 'em off."

Rose gives him a pointed look. "Mm-mm."

"Correction, I pissed 'em off." He turns and points at her. "Rose had my back, and for over half of a millennium, they wanted us dead." He throws a book on the floor in front of Elena and Mia.

"What did you do?" Elena asks.

Trevor gives Rose a look, telling her to continue.

"He made the same mistake countless others did." Rose says. "He trusted Katerina Petrova."

"Katherine." Elena realizes.

Rose hums. "The one and only. The first Petrova doppelganger." She walks past them.

"I helped her escape her fate." Trevor continues. "And now I've - sorry, we've - been marked ever since."

"Which is why we're not gonna make the same mistake again."

Trevor sets down the book he had in his hand on the table, giving the two girls a look before following after Rose out the door.

"I want to sit." Mia says to her, a frown on her face. "I want to have my feet up for my last hours."

Elena sighs, taking her hand in hers as they walk out after them to go to the couch they woke up on. "I'm sorry I got you into this, Mia."

Mia gives her a weak smile. "If you didn't, you be alone in this."

"But you're going to die."

Mia hugs her arm as they walk down the hall. "I get to be with my dad, 'Lena. It's all I've ever wanted since Damon killed him."

"They're going to drain you."

Mia shrugs as they walk to the couch. "I've been drinken from before. It's not all bad. I'll be okay, 'Lena. You just worry about you."

Elena flops on the couch, Mia beside her, but they both hear a crinkle under the former's foot.

Sitting on the couch is a piece of folded up paper which Elena picks up with furrowed brows.

Mia leans over to see what's on it as Elena opens it.

Stefan and Damon
are coming for you.
B & N

Elena and Mia smile at each other, Elena crumpling up the paper. She holds her arm out which Mia gladly goes into, curling up on the couch together.

It reminds Mia of her sister.

At just the age of three, Mia Salvatore stands happily babbling to her mother, clapping her hands in front of her.

Gail smiles at her, unable to reach down and pick her up herself with her bulging belly.

Mia loves her mother holding her so she can feel as her baby sister kicks her. Gail always says the baby knows when Mia is right there because she always kicks when she's being held.

Today, Mia just smiles at her mother and walks around the living room in the Salvatore Boarding House.

A blonde laughs as she walks over to them, squatting down in front of Mia. "Hi, Mia."

The toddler laughs, clapping her hands in front of her to be picked up.

Gail laughs. "Liz, would you please hand her to me, please? She wants to be picked up a lot lately and I can barely put on my pants."

Liz smiles, picking up the small girl and handing her to her mother. "When I was pregnant with Caroline I couldn't even put on my shoes. Bill had to help me."

Gail chuckles. "With Mia, everything was a challenge."

***

Mia and Elena are on either side of the couch once again, watching as Rose picks up a duffel bag and puts some stuff in it.

Trevor comes running down the stairs. "He's here." He points an accusing finger at Rose. "This was a mistake."

"No, I told you I would get us out of this. You have to trust me." Rose says.

"No! He wants me dead, Rose."

"He wants her more."

"Are you willing to bet your life on that?" Mia speaks up from the couch.

Trevor points at her. "She's right. I can't do this. You give her to him." He points at Elena. "He'll have mercy on you. But need to get out."

"Hey." Rose says, taking his hands in hers. "What are we?"

Trevor exhales a breath. "We're family. Forever."

Mia and Elena smile at each other, taking each other's hand and holding it tight.

Pounding sounds from the door in the hall, letting them all know he's here.

"You're scared." Elena breathes out.

"Stay here with them." Rose says to Trevor. "And don't make a sound." She goes up the steps, leaving the three alone.

Mia stands up from her couch, taking small steps to the vampire. "Is he really that scary?"

Trevor looks at her before he nods.

Mia gulps. "What will he do to Elena? Is he going to sacrifice her like you said?"

He nods.

"And me? Are you going to kill me?"

He doesn't answer that question. He's done with answering them.

Mia sighs, turning around to find Elena standing, pacing.

Tears fall from her eyes as she goes to the couch, curling up by herself, wishing her uncles were there to save her.

Footsteps sound, Mia keeping her head down to hopefully not get noticed.

Elena stops her pacing, her eyes falling on the man in a suit standing at the top of stairs, looking right back at her.

He uses his vampire speed to appear in front of her, making Elena's eyes wide in fear.

Slowly, he bends his head down to her neck, sniffing her.

Mia's head finally goes up, blinking in confusion. Why sniff her?"

Elijah's head raises. "Human. It's impossible." He looks at the doppelganger. "Hello there."

Elena takes a step back towards the couch, rushing to it and hugging Mia's body to her. "It's okay."

"I want my uncles." Mia cries through her tears. "I don't want to die, 'Lena. I want to make it to senior year. I want to see my sister."

Elena sniffles, pulling back from her, her hands clutching onto Mia's. "I love you. So much. You're my best friend."

Mia shakes her head. "Don't say that. Please."

Elena leans forward, kissing her head. "Just imagine your mom and dad on the other side, okay? You'll get to see them again."

"I don't want to die." Mia cries, looking into Elena's own tearfilled eyes. "I don't want you to die."

"We have no choice, Mia." Elena whispers, blinking her tears away. "We won't be anywhere near this. You won't have to deal with Damon anymore."

Mia chuckles through her tears. "He killed my dad and I still forgave him."

"And that's okay." Elena whispers, rubbing her hand down Mia's hair. "He's family. You would do anything for them and they'd do anything for you."

"Who is this girl?" Elijah asks, turning his attention to Rose and Trevor.

"She was with the doppelganger." Rose explains. "We were...giving her to you for food."

Elijah turns his attention back to Elena who had stood up, taking a step to Elijah.

His eyes fall on the girl, her eyes on his, his wrist burning.

Mia winces at the burning sensation on her wrist, making her roll up her sleeve to find a mark still burning into the skin. It's shaped like an infinity sign. She's never had it before.

Elijah appears in front of her on his knees, taking her wrist in his, gazing down at it. He lets go when his eyes meet hers again. "I found you." He whispers.

Mia's brows furrow, but she doesn't get the chance to ask what he means.

"You're coming with me." Elijah says softly, standing up and holding out his hand for her. "You will be safe."

Mia whimpers, her eyes going to Elena who walks over to her, pulling her up from the couch. "It's okay, Mia."

Elena hugs Mia's body to her, her eyes deadset on Elijah.

"We have a long journey ahead of us. We should be going." Elijah says.

Elena turns her head to Rose, begging, "Please, don't let him take us."

"One last piece of business." Elijah continues. "Then we're done." He turns, walking towards Trevor and Rose.

"I've waited so long for this day, Elijah." Trevor says for the first time since Rose went to get the door. "Truly very sorry."

"Oh, no, your apology's not necessary."

"Yes. Yes, it is." He says with a nod of his head, Elijah circling around him. "You trusted me with Katerina. And I failed you."

"Well, yes, you are the guilty one." Elijah agrees. "And Rose aided you because she was loyal to you." His eyes are on Rose on the stairs. "That I honor." Elijah stands in front of Trevor, his eyes on him. "Where was your loyalty?"

"I beg your forgiveness."

"So granted." Elijah lifts his hand, chopping Trevor's head off.

Mia screams in fright, pulling away from Elena to curl up on the couch. Her relatives might be vampires, but that doesn't mean they just kill someone in front of her.

Rose makes a sound in the back of her throat, hand to her chest. "You-"

"Don't, Rose." Elijah cuts her off. "Now that you are free."

Rose cries from her place on the steps.

Elijah holds his hand out, walking to Elena. "Come. Both of you."

"What about the moonstone?" Elena gets out, fear gripping her voice.

"What do you know about the moonstone?" Elijah asks, standing in front of her.

"I know that you need it. And-and I know where it is."

"Yes?"

"I can help you get it."

"Tell me where it is."

Elena shakes her head. "It doesn't work that way."

"Are you negotiating with me?" Elijah looks back at Rose.

"It's the first I've heard of it." Rose says through her tears.

Elijah looks back to Elena, his eyes flicking down to her necklace. "What is this vervain doing around your neck?" Elijah rips it off, throwing it to the ground behind him, making Elena look him in the eyes. "Tell me where the moonstone is."

"In the tomb underneath the church ruins." Elena replies hypnotically.

"What is it doing there?"

"It's with Katherine."

"Interesting." Elijah lets go of Elena when he hears something breaking. "What is that?"

"I don't know." Rose replies.

"Who else is in this house?"

"I don't know."

Elena backs up, rushing over to the couch, but Elijah appears in front of her, grabbing her arm and pulling Mia up gently.

He pushes Elena towards Rose, her arm still in his grip as he walks, Mia walking with him, his hand barely holding her. "Move."

Rose follows them to the entrance hall, someone zooming around them.

Elijah pushes Elena to Rose, holding Mia close as he looks around. "Rose?"

"I don't know who it is."

Someone goes down the stairs and then to the other room.

"Up here." Stefan's faint voice calls.

Elijah leaves Mia on the floor as he uses his speed to get to the middle of the stairs, looking up.

"Down here." Damon's faint voice calls.

Elijah spins, looking down at them as they look around.

A swoosh sounds, a small stake embedding itself in Elijah's hand which gives Stefan the distraction to grab Mia and Elena, and for Damon to grab Rose.

Stefan holds a finger to his mouth, quieting them.

"Excuse me." Elijah's voice calls. "To whom it may concern, you're making a grave mistake if you think that you could beat me. You can't. You hear that? I repeat, you cannot beat me. So I want the girls. On the count of three. Or heads will roll. Do we understand each other?"

Elena gives Stefan a look which causes him to step aside, his body in front of Mia's.

Elena steps out at the top of the stairwell. "I'll come with you. Just please don't hurt my friends. They just wanted to help me out."

Elijah speeds up to her, making her gasp. "What game are you playing with me?" He looks around her surroundings. "Where is Mia?"

Elena throws a vervain grenade at Elijah that Stefan gave her from Ric's stash, falling to the corner.

Elijah yells out in pain, his head looking up at Elena angrily, walking up the rest of the steps.

Before he could even get three steps, Stefan steps out, shooting Elijah with wooden bullets. When he continues to push on, Stefan tackles him, both their bodies rolling down the stairs.

Mia rushes over to Elena, helping her up as Damon sticks the wooden coat rack Elijah had broken off into Elijah's heart, pinning him against the door. His body turns grey, his head slumping.

Rose rushes out from her hiding place, seeing Elijah dead, and disappears.

"Just let her go." Elena says before her eyes fall on Stefan, rushing down the stairs to get to him.

"Hey, come here. You hurt? You okay?" Stefan asks before Elena embraces him in a hug.

"Mia?" Damon asks, his fearful eyes on her. He's only ever scared when it comes to his brother, Elena, and his niece.

Mia sobs, running down the stairs and into her uncle's arms.

"You're okay." He whispers, running his hand down her hair. "You're safe."

***

Mia, Stefan, and Damon step foot in the Salvatore Boarding House - their home - a brunette stepping out in front of them with tears in her eyes. "Mia,"

"Evie!" Mia exclaims, rushing into her arms.

Evelyn Salvatore. The vampire vampire hunter. She born in the 1900s after Stefan and Damon, Her parents were killed by vampires, she was turned by one. She vowed to hunt them to the ends of the Earth.

That was until she realized her sibling had survived that night. When she met Mia, she realized her brother never died. The line continued. She met her uncles. Now she's just a normal Salvatore vampire. One that has a soft spot for the three people left in her family.

"Are you hurt?" Evelyn interrogates. "Are you okay? Did they hurt you?"

Mia shakes her head. "I'm fine, Evie. I promise. I just want to sleep."

Evelyn nods with a smile. "Okay. Nova and Bonnie are at Elena's. They were waiting for Elena there with Jeremy and Amara. I'll tell them you'll 'em in the morning."

Mia nods. "Thank you, Evie."

Evelyn smiles, running her hand down the back of Mia's hair. "Of course, Mia."

Chapter 3: Katerina

Chapter Text

Mia walks down the stairs of the Salvatore Boarding House with a yawn, padding to the kitchen only to pause at the doorway of the living room.

She blinks, thinking she’s seeing things as the three Salvatore’s stand up to look at her.

“I think I need more sleep.” Mia says, still blinking. “I’m hallucinating.”

Evelyn smiles at her. “You’re not hallucinating, dear.”

“So, Rose is really right behind you? In our house?”

Stefan nods. “She is. And she’s here to help.”

Mia takes a deep breath. “Yeah, I think I need food.”

Evelyn grabs a plate from the coffee table, holding it out for her. “Pancakes and orange juice. Just like your Mom used to make it.”

Mia narrows her eyes. “You’re bad at cooking. Your pancakes taste like ash. Dad’s were much better than yours.”

Stefan smiles gently at her. “I made them.”

Mia perks up, rushing over to her aunt and grabbing the plate from her. “Thanks, Uncle Stefan. Aunt Eve, thank you for the orange juice.”

Rose flicks her eyes between them all. “I’m confused. How are you all related?”

“Mia is our descendant.” Damon explains. “Stefan and I were the first Salvatores turned. Our father had a love affair which made our half-brother and continued down. Evelyn was also a love child from our nephew and her Turkish mother. She was the third Salvatore turned. Mia is our nephew’s daughter. Which makes her our niece. For all of us.”

Rose hums. “That explained it pretty well.”

“Damon can be a good story teller when he wants to be.” Evelyn says, leading Mia to the couch to eat her food. “He read me great bedtime stories when I was a kid.”

“Is that where you got your bedtime stories!?" Mia exclaims with wide eyes towards her aunt.

Evelyn chuckles. “Eat your food, Mia.”

Mia nods excitedly, going back to her pancakes.

***

“Okay, you have to understand I only know what I’ve picked up over the years.” Rose starts, pacing in front of the Salvatores and Elena. “And I-I don’t know what’s true and what’s not true. That’s the problem with all this vampire crap. But Klaus, I know is real.”

“Who is he?” Elena asks with a shrug.

“He’s one of the Originals.” Damon says. “He’s a legend.”

“He’s one of the first generation of vampires.” Stefan adds on.

“Like Elijah.” Elena says.

“No.” Rose corrects. “Elijah was the Easter Bunny compared to Klaus.”

Mia snorts. “Pretty scary Easter Bunny.”

“He’s a foot soldier.” Rose continues. “Klaus is the real deal.”

“Like the Boogeyman?” Mia asks. “Or like Santa?”

Rose gives her a confused look.

“Klaus is known to be the oldest.” Evelyn says.

“Okay, so, you’re saying that the oldest vampire in the history of time is coming after me?” Elena says.

“Yes.”

“No.” Stefan corrects Rose.

“What they’re saying is- I mean, if what’s she’s saying is true-”

“Which it is.” Rose says.

Damon continues, standing beside Rose, “And you’re not just saying it so we don’t kill you.”

“Which I’m not.”

“What he’s trying to get at is maybe.” Evelyn finishes for him. “If he would get to the point.”

Damon glares at her.

“Look, Elijah’s dead, right?” Stefan says, walking to sit next to Elena. “So no one even knows that you exist.”

“If Elijah didn’t tell anyone.” Evelyn says.

“That’s not helping.” Damon says with a look towards his niece.

“Look, I’ve never even met anyone who’s laid eyes on him.” Stefan continues, looking at the vampires. “I mean, we’re talking centuries of truth mixed with fiction. I mean, we don’t know what’s real. For all we know, he could just be some sort of stupid bedtime story.”

Evelyn raises a brow. “For vampires?”

He’s real.” Rose says. “And he doesn’t give up. If he wants something, he gets it. If you’re not afraid of Klaus, then you’re an idiot.”

“Alright, we’re shaking.” Damon throws his arms out. “You’ve made your point.”

Elena taps Mia’s leg beside her, standing up. “Come on.”

Mia stands up after her.

“Where you going?” Stefan asks.

Elena turns back. “Uh, school. We’re late.”

Stefan stands up. “Let me, uh, let me grab my stuff. I'll go with you.”

“That’s okay. I know where it is. And I have Mia.” Elena starts walking away and Mia scrabbles after her.

***

Elena dropped Mia off at the school before she went to get Caroline to go to the tomb.

Mia Salvatore has a perfect attendance. She’s not going to break that just because of this Klaus.

“Hey.” Amara says, linking her arm with Mia’s. “How are you doing?”

Mia smiles. “I’m okay.”

“Are you sure?” Nova asks, linking her arm with Mia’s other one.

Amara Sommers, Mia Salvatore, and Nova Bennett have been friends since they were kids. Even though Mia is older than them by a year, they’re still best friends.

Caroline Forbes, Bonnie Bennett, and Elena Gilbert have all been friends since they were little. The other three didn’t feel included in that. They made their own group.

Mia nods. “I got your message.”

Nova smiles. “Good. That means mine and Bonnie’s magic worked.”

“Hey, guys.” Aisling walks up to them with a smile, her father walking into the school behind her. “Mia, how are you?”

Aisling Saltzman showed up when Alaric did to kill Damon Salvatore. Aisling is Alaric Saltzman’s daughter. She was already super nice to them all, but she just clicked more with Nova, Mia, and Amara. They’ve been friends since.

“I told you, I’m fine.”

Aisling sighs. “Well, you were kidnapped.”

Mia sighs. “Can we just get to class? I don’t want to talk about this.”

Aisling holds up her hands. “Fine. Fine. Let’s go.”

Nova and Amara unlink their arms from Mia’s, following after Aisling through the doors of Mystic Falls High.

Mia stops, staring down at her wrist where the infinity sign still sits.

There’s a tug in her gut telling her to turn back and go towards something. She’s not sure where. She just knows it’s a feeling she only got when she met Elijah.

The mark only appeared when their eyes met. And the feeling in her gut had only intensified since she woke up this morning.

It’s like her gut can sense Elijah. Like maybe he’s not dead.

And that scares her.

Because if he isn’t, he’s going to come back and kill the entire town just to get her and Elena. Maybe even kill her.
