Chapter 1: Wailing on the floor.
Chapter Text
It was the middle of the night, and Owen was brooding on the rooftop, he didn't want to sleep, nor did he wish to feed or terrorise the 'people' of Oakhurst, so, he found himself just observing, only tearing his gaze away from the distant town as he heard the entrance to the roof area open.
"Hey..." Apo greets, walking over to the railing and resting their arms against it, "I'll go back inside in a second..." She adds, looking out across the land, a sad look in her lifeless eyes.
Owen let out a small noise of acknowledgement, "Stop the woe is me act, Apo." Owen stated bluntly, looking back out to Oakhurst. "They kicked you out, huh?" He inquired, looking at Apo, pressing for more information, he watched as the fledgling swallowed hard, "Look, I'm sorry, but I'm not at the same time. The humans of Oakhurst are monstrous." He stated.
"I know that now, I just...Thought they'd listen..." Apo started, looking away from the view of Oakhurst, looking at Owen, "...I hope you guys can accept me." They add almost timidly.
Owen exhales harshly and turns so his back is to Oakhurst, "You thought they'd listen? There's a few other vamps down there, they could've vouched for you, defended you, and yet, they didn't."
Owen feels his annoyance rise as Apo doesn't reply, he turns to look at her and upon seeing that her eyes were wide and filled with panic, Owen whips back around to look out at Oakhurst, the sight he's greeted with haunted his vision even as he blinked.
Despite being so far away - The view of a fire could be seen all the way from the castle, it was too far away to see what was on fire, but Owen wouldn't be surprised if it was one of the houses.
"Well, I see they're already on fire, again, I'm off back inside." Owen shrugs, he honestly felt nothing but indifference, he walked over to the door and made his way back downstairs, listening as Apo followed him.
The two running into Shelby who had wandered into the hallway, "Did you guys see the fire too?" She asked a bit nervously, arms crossed in a nonchalant means of hugging herself, trying to self soothe.
Owen nodded simply before continuing to his room to brood in there, he understood why Shelby and Apo were upset by seeing fire in Oakhurst, but that didn't mean he had to care, the vampire stalked over to his bed where he just laid down and stared at his ceiling, the last thing Owen remembered at the hour of midnight was going to his room after catching a glimpse of fire, and then, he was hit with visual static, his mind blanking as he stared blankly at his ceiling.
Owen stayed like that for thirty minutes, but when he blinked harshly and sat up it felt like years. Owen having only been taken out of it by the sound of loud knocks at the front door of the castle, he could hear a storm outside too, rain lashing against his window, he got up with a huff and joined Scott, Pyro, Shelby and Apo in the hallway, Scott going to the door to open it a little to see who it was.
Scott peaked outside, immediately opening the door wider, revealing a soaked Avid who was supporting a sobbing Drift, Scott ushering the two newly turned vampires inside, the two of them falling onto the floor, Drift trembling and shaking, letting out pained, distressed wails, Scott turned to Avid, who despite also being panicked, was more calm, "What happened?" Scott asked, his tone a mix of worry and anger.
"They- They found out about Drift, and they were fine with it, but literally thirty fucking minutes ago - Martyn showed up and clocked me being a vampire too, and he burned out fucking house- With us still in it." Avid explained, before checking over Drift too, wincing at her injuries.
And man, those injuries were bad, Drift, despite being 'not alive', looked even more close to death, the fabric of her pants had melted and burned to the skin of her legs, Owen could tell that the burns were pretty bad...Okay, really bad, if there was any doubt that Drift had been in the house while it was on fire - that doubt was snuffed out at the sight of how severe her injuries were.
"I- I'm fucking dying-" Drift wails, laying on her side on the cold wooden floor, her entire body trembling from pain alone, her eyes widening with fear, "No- no no- If- if I die- I'll respawn back at Oakhurst-" She babbles.
Scott looked away from Avid and Drift, looking at the others, luckily Shelby got the hint, pulling a bed out of her inventory and placing it down, Scott carefully grabbing Drifts hand and helping her set her new spawn, before he looked at Avid, who shuffled closer and set his spawn too.
The eldest quickly concerns himself with Drift, gently sitting her up, looking really remorseful as Drift sobs and even gags a little as Scott does so, "I know, I know." Scott murmurs, carefully sitting behind Drift to prop her up, "You're gonna be okay."
Owen fought the urge to roll his eyes, but he began to feel bad as he watched Drift wail in the arms of her sire, slowly succumbing to her burns, the fledgling going from wailing, to panicked hyperventilating, before her body gave a few small jolts, Drift dying in Scott's arms. Owen glanced at the bed as Drift respawned, the girl immediately getting up and looking around, still incredibly distressed, clearly experiencing mild phantom pains, evident by her occasional frantic patting of her clothes as if feeling flames that were no longer there.
Shelby stepped closer and carefully pulled Drift close, the older of the two fledglings embracing Drift as she sobbed, "Hey, hey, it's okay, you're okay now, wanna come pick out a room? The one right next to mine is free, if you want it?" Shelby offered, nodding softly as Drift just nods weakly, "Okay, come on, come on." Shelby urged gently, beginning to walk down the hallway to the room she had talked about, Apo deciding to follow along too.
"Right, you got any injuries?" Scott asked bluntly, looking down at Avid - the fledgling getting up off the ground and shrugging, "Okay, Are you bleeding?"
Avid sniffled a little, "I- I can't really tell-" He mumbled tearfully, "Maybe?" He added.
Owen, Scott and Pyro looked at each other before back at Avid, it was obvious he was injured too, they could smell the blood.
"Lift your shirt." Scott demanded, his tone firm but not too firm, the eldest exhaling roughly as Avid does so, the group greeted to the sight of a deep gash on Avid's side, "I understand how Drift got burned, but, what caused this?" Scott asked bluntly, gesturing to the deep, oozing wound Avid had.
Avid sniffled, "Our house was on fire, our doors were blocked, so we had to use a window..." Avid started, "Guess I got cut without noticing."
"Did you break the window instead of opening it?" Pyro inquired, crossing his arms.
"I was panicking!" Avid yelled back, getting defensive immediately.
Scott sighed, "Owen, handle Avid please, I'm off to check on Drift." He stated, not requested, stated, the eldest then walking down the hall to the room Shelby had taken Drift into.
Owen huffed at being bossed around, but obliged, going up to Avid and grabbing his wrist, and dragging the fledgling into a nearby bathroom, "So, you on our side now?" Owen asked, sounding almost condescending with his tone as he grabbed what he needed to heal Avid, "I need you to get over the whole 'acting like a human' thing right now, the only proper way to heal wounds is by feeding, or just eating in general." He added, pulling a few bottles of blood from the cabinet. "Drink all of these."
Avid sniffled but nodded, taking the bottles before drinking the contents, he felt his wound heal with each bottle he drank until it was fully healed. "Thank you..." Avid started, timidly following Owen out of the bathroom, "Uh, I'm sorry, for being an asshole..." Avid mumbled, "You were right. Humans are monsters too."
Owen paused at the apology, he had told himself he would not care for, or foster any of the new fledglings, yet, he felt a flicker of care and empathy at Avid's words, he could tell the poor things worldview had been shattered completely, Owen didn't verbally acknowledge the apology, just nodding for Avid to follow him, "Come on, you can sleep in my room for right now." He offered, leading Avid to his room, Owen tried to keep his tone flat and indifferent, but he could tell it'd be hard to stick to his whole 'not caring for new fledglings' thing when he was over here helping one of them into bed. HIS bed.
Owen sighed, walking over to an armchair where he decided to get some shut-eye too, Owen knew the humans were...A lot, he knew of them burning houses, but he didn't think they'd burn Avid and Drift's house with the duo still in it. As far as he was aware, every other instance so far, whatever house that had been burned down had been empty. All Owen knew is that the residents of Oakhurst had reached a new low in his eyes, kicking Apo out of Oakhurst and now burning a house with the fledgling-residents still in it. Owen fell asleep feeling nothing but pure rage, he would not hesitate or mess around anymore, if any of the humans messed with him, or the fledglings, again, they'd meet an untimely fate.
Chapter 2: Pick a side.
Summary:
Owen is walking through the halls and walks into the ballroom and overhears a conversation between Apo, Avid and Drift.

Chapter Text
It was daytime again, and as far as Owen knew, Avid and Drift were settling in alright, when he woke up, Avid was gone. At least the fledgling had manners, evident by the fact that he literally made the bed after waking up. Avid was annoying, but at least he was a sophisticated kind of annoying, apparently.
Owen left his room and stalked through to Scott's room, entering without knocking at all, "Hey," he greeted, "So...The humans are on the bad list now?" Owen asked, wanting to make sure he and Scott were on the same page here, the aforementioned eldest vampire was looking over his bookshelf.
"Well, originally, when it was just Apo who they had run out of town, I wasn't too bothered," Scott started, turning and looking at Owen, "But with what happened with Avid and Drift, I'm actually both unsurprised and incredibly angry on their behlaves." He answered, his tone was as calm as usual, though there was an undertone of anger.
"...Avid said their house's door was blocked, you don't think Martyn locked them in, right?" Owen asked, a hint of what sounded like concern slipping into his tone.
"Based on Drift's burns, I think it's most likely that he meant blocked by flames." Scott answered honestly, "But, I wouldn't put it past Martyn to have blocked the door too."
Owen grimaced, nodding a little, "I'm off to walk around. This is messing with my head. Why did they come here?"
"Owen, they're fledglings, and like Apo, it sounds like they didn't have a choice. It's either here or out there." Scott answered simply, turning back to his bookshelf, looking over it before picking out a book, "I've declared today as being a more...laid back kind of day, we need it."
Owen just nodded before leaving Scott's room. He found himself wandering into the ballroom, he immediately turned invisible after seeing Apo, Drift, and Avid talking in the far corner. He silently walked over, sticking to the shadows so he could stay hidden once his invisibility faded. The three of them seemed to be having a pretty intense conversation.
"So...Martyn burned your house...With you two still in it?" Apo asked, sounding a bit confused, flinching back as Drift snapped at her -
"Yes! That is what we keep saying! This isn't a 'oh let's go play both sides' thing like what you're doing." Drift stated, her tone short, Owen could tell this conversation had been going on for a while. "Apo, you can't go back there." Drift added, sounding borderline terrified.
Apo looked between Avid and Drift, "You don't get to decide that for me." They stated bluntly, "Maybe this was a misunderstanding."
"...You think Martyn burning our house with us in it was a misunderstanding?" Avid asked carefully and slowly, as if talking to someone who wasn't all there, "Is that what you think?"
"I mean...He's impulsive..." Apo mumbled, rubbing her left arm with her right hand, "He did that freeze thing on me...He's a very scared person..." Apo continued.
Owen had heard enough, he stepped out of the shadows as his invisibility ran out, revealing himself, "So, you're playing both sides still?" He inquired, looking right at Apo, trying to ignore how Avid and Drift immediately stood closer to each other in a futile attempt to shield each other from an attack that would never come.
Apo gulped, "Look, I..." Their words faded as they couldn't come up with an excuse. "Yeah, but..I don't think I can do that anymore..."
Before anyone else could add to the conversation, Scott appeared, and it was then that Owen realised that Scott had heard everything.
"So you lied about being kicked out of Oakhurst?" Scott asked, sounding incredibly judgmental, "I am giving you one last chance, pick your side, Apo, cause after what Martyn did to Avid and Drfit, I'm not feeling merciful, nor will I feel remorseful for what I will do. Are you in, for real this time?" Scott asked, glaring down at Apo, who shrank back a little.
Apo breathed in and out, looking at Scott and Owen, before looking at Avid and Drfit, seeing how Martyn's actions were affecting the two of them, filled her with hurt, so with a heavy, undead heart, she nodded, "I-I'm in, for real this time."
Scott gave a single nod before stepping to the side. "Go to your room, stay there until you've calmed down." He watched as Apo immediately ran out of the ballroom, the sound of her room's door slamming shut echoing through the halls, Scott turning his attention to Avid and Drift, "So, you two are with us properly?"
Avid and Drift nodded in confirmation before the two timidly left the room, leaving the ballroom and leaving the two oldests alone.
"Are we killing Martyn?" Owen asked simply.
Scott looked over at Owen with a look before simply answering - "What do you think?"
Notes:
Yeah, Apo wasn't actually kicked out of Oakhurst, she lied. (Avid viewer here lolz.) (I did watch other POVs, like Shelby, Apo, Scott, and Owen.)

Chapter 3: We're under the floor :(
Summary:
Owen and Scott leave the castle to scout out Oakhurst, mainly to plan a future attack on Martyn, leaving the fledglings alone.
The humans get cocky and go after the beacon at the castle (again)
Damage control ensues, and Owen starts to feel a bit of respect for Avid.
Notes:
TW's - Mentions and discussions of violence/attempted murder, mild injury detail, and mild emotional distress.

Sorry for the short chapter :3
Chapter Text
Owen and Scott had a plan - leave the castle and go to Oakhurst to scout out areas where they could easily attack Martyn. And it was going well, it was daytime, so the lack of people around was understandable.
"So, I say we just ambush his house," Owen suggests, as he and Scott wander around the outside of the houses of Oakhurst, the two memorising all weak spots. "Or wherever he is when we strike, take him by surprise."
Scott nods, despite being the most put together of all the vampires, the eldest found himself picking up a rock and throwing it through one of the windows, "Just sending a message." He shrugged nonchalantly.
Before either of them could move or speak, a chill fell upon the air - the castle's beacon had been taken.
Without saying a word to each other, Scott and Owen both immediately turn into bats and start flying back to the castle, the two of them turning back into their regular forms at the bridge.
"You think the fledglings are okay?" Owen asked as he and Scott ran across the bridge, jumping over the gaps where they had to.
Scott couldn't answer for sure, "They should be - Pyro and Shelby wouldn't let anything happen to the other three." He responded, shoving the doors open to the castle, before running down the hall to where the beacon is located, unsurprised at the sight of Ren, Martyn, and Abolish starting to escape through a window, the three of them bloodied, proving Scott's response had some weight to it. "Get out of MY castle before I turn the three of you into bloodbags!" Scott yelled, striding over to the trio, taking great satisfaction in swiping at Martyn with his claws as the humans fled.
Owen concerned himself with checking the hiding spots, first checking the false wall, where he found Apo huddled on the floor in the hiding space, Pyro next to her, though he was in a more defensive position, ready to attack if need be. Owen held up his hands in a show of surrender, "Hey, hey, calm down, we're back." He nodded softly, moving to the side, allowing Pyro to leave the hiding spot first, Apo slowly following suit, "It's safe now, go sit down." He stated, surprisingly soothing in his tone, watching as Pyro and Apo both sat down at the long table in the room.
Owen joined Scott in sorting out the beacon again, when the two of them remembered the hiding spot under the floor of the podium that the beacon was on.
Scott exhaled a little, a small, somewhat playful grin on his face, "Geez, I wonder where the rest of my fledglings are." He stated out loud, looking at Owen, the two oldest vampires knew exactly where the other three were.
Shelby's voice is heard from beneath the two of them, "We're under the floor." She answered timidly, before crawling out from under the podium, turning back, most likely to Avid and Drfit, "Come on, it's okay." Shelby smiles as Drift crawls out from under the podium, her eyes filled with tears as she just clambers up onto her feet before stumbling over to a chair and sitting down where she just starts sobbing.
Owen raised his brow, "Avid? You down there?" Owen asked; he knew damn well Avid was down there - he could sense the fear radiating off of Avid.
Shelby answers for Avid, "Yeah, he's down there." They nodded softly before sitting down next to Drift, gently stroking Drift's hair as the younger fledgling continued to cry.
Owen huffed, getting up and hopping down off the podium, before crawling under it and into the hiding spot, "Avid, come on...Oh." Owen started, sounding annoyed, only to pause. Avid was huddled in the far corner of the crawlspace. Owen could see blood on Avid's mouth and hands; the fledgling had leveled up a little, evident by his paler appearance and his new claws.
Owen crawled over to Avid before settling next to him, "You okay?"
Avid shook his head before beginning to cry too, "I-I hurt Ren...And Martyn." He choked out, curling up even tighter. "I'm a monster." He mumbled.
"No, you were defending your new home," Owen stated firmly, "That doesn't make you a monster; they're the ones who broke in. Now, come on." Owen continued, beginning to leave the hiding space, waiting for Avid to follow.
Once everyone was settled in chairs, Scott and Owen joined them at the table, Scott clearing his throat, "What happened?"
Pyro cleared their throat, "Well, Martyn, Ren, and Abolish broke in, attacked us, we attacked back, and by 'we' - I mainly mean myself, Shelby, and Avid." Pyro explained, pausing before continuing, "At some point, we had to flee the fighting, so we hid, I took Apo, and Sheby took Avid and Drift."
Scott nodded at the explanation, "Any injuries?" He asked, after the other fledglings all shook their heads, Scott found his gaze falling on the blood-covered Avid, Scott leaning forward against the table, "Avid?"
Owen looked at Avid a bit closely and noticed that the fledgling was once again bleeding, blood seeping through his clothes. Owen sighed and stood up, "Come on, I'll help ya again." He stated, taking Avid by the wrist again and leading him to the bathroom. "Let me see."
Avid nodded tearfully, taking his sweater vest off before unbuttoning his shirt, showing a shallow wound on his chest, which was still bleeding.
"Jesus..." Owen murmured, "...Did...Did they try to stake you?" He asked, gently inspecting the wound, he already knew the answer, the wound was near where Avid's heart was, whoever had been handling the stake clearly had bad aim.
Owen felt a pang of sympathy though, as Avid nodded. Owen felt angry, but he felt a pang of respect.
Out of all the new fledglings, he didn't think Avid would be one of the ones who'd be getting defensive against humans. Owen opened the cabinet and handed Avid a bottle of blood to drink, which the fledgling did so immediately, allowing the wound to heal. Owen stepped a bit closer and found himself patting Avid on the shoulder, "I'm proud of you." He gave Avid a small nod.
"Uh- Thank you?" Avid answered, sounding a bit surprised at Owen's praising, "I'm gonna go lie down..." The fledgling added, buttoning his shirt back up before leaving the bathroom and going to his own bedroom.
Leaving Owen alone, Owen would be lying if he said he wasn't proud of Avid, it takes a lot to attack those you saw as friends, especially if said friends attack first. But, while Owen was proud of Avid, he found himself feeling a small amount of concern for Drift, he reminded himself that Drift was Scott's fledgling, but he was the second oldest; he was allowed to be concerned about all the fledglings, too.
Owen left the bathroom and sat down at the table alone. He had half the mind to go down to Oakhurst right that second, but he knew that'd make things worse, so he stayed put; he had fledglings to help Scott look after.
Chapter 4: I don't like you, I don't like your friends.
Summary:
Drift goes for a walk to clear her head and bumps into Ren.
(changed chapter summary as I write the summaries b4 the chapters and sometimes that leads to the summary not matching fully.)
Notes:
TW's - Discussions of a hate crime (Martyn, my beloved villain.)
Short Drift chapter.
I headcanon that fledglings tend to sometimes mimic/emulate their sire/whatever vampire they see as a sire, sometimes fledglings will subconsiously act how they think their sire would act.
Scott is basically everyone's, excluding Owen, sire/parental figure. The 'guess who but with just vibes' that's mentioned is a reference to a YouTube video -

Chapter Text
Drift was bored, and she couldn't go back to Oakhurst, so she chose to just go on a walk and get some food while she was at it. She wanted to prove to the others that she could be helpful too. Sure, she had done nothing but sob and wail like a banshee on her first night, and then day at the castle, but in her defence - She was dying on the first night and then had been attacked on the second.
Drift walked off the path to avoid bumping into anyone, collecting blood and meat of the wildlife nearby, satisfying her own bloodthirst, while also collecting food for the others back at the castle. As far as she was aware, Scott and Owen were planning an attack on Oakhurst, and she found herself feeling indifferent; on one hand, part of her still cared for the people of Oakhurst, but on the other, Martyn had burned her and Avid's house, and the others just watched and let it happen. Maybe it was the heightened emotions she was feeling, but she found herself wishing the same upon Martyn.
As Drfit walked carefully down a small incline, she slipped and stumbled over a tree root and sent herself tumbling down the incline, where at the bottom she, literally, bumped into Ren, sending them both onto the ground.
Before Drift could process what had happened, Ren was helping her up to her feet, "Oh my, are ya alright, lass?" He asked, dusting himself off.
Drift blinked a couple times, maybe being Scott's fledgling made her develop a similar attitude or something, cause she found herself raising an eyebrow at the audacity, "You attacked the castle with Martyn and Abloish yesterday, and you have the nerve to talk to me like we're still friends?" She inquired, stepping closer, she'd be lying if she said she wasn't reveling at how Ren stepped back, clearly fearful, "Don't get me started on what Martyn did to Avid and me."
"He panicked. He knew about you, but finding out about Avid, he just...panicked..." Ren tried to explain, putting his hands up a little bit, "Can you really blame him?"
"Yes! I can blame him! He didn't even try to talk to us; he was eavesdropping, didn't like what he heard, and proceeded to act out of rage. I can blame him for that." Drfit answered firmly, stepping closer and giving Ren a harsh poke on the shoulder, "I also blame you lot. You all watched and didn't even try to help!"
Ren inhaled, starting to get defensive, "In Martyn's defence, Avid was pretty unstable as a human, and his actions at the castle show that he's worse now that he's a creature of the night." Ren pulled his hair away from his neck, showing Drift a bandage on his neck, "Look what he did."
Drift scoffed, "Cry me a river."
"Excuse me?" Ren questioned, sounding a little shocked, with a hand up to his chest.
Drift rolled her eyes, crossing her arms, "You're excused." She spits, finding herself instinctively showing her fangs. Unlike Avid, she hadn't leveled up yet, but she didn't need claws to be intimidating. "He didn't attack you guys until you let Martyn try to stake his fucking heart, Ren. So," Drift clears her throat, "You are excused, bye-bye."
"Drift..." Ren started, watching as Drift started to walk back up the incline, the man stepping back as he watched Drift kill a nearby sheep.
Drift stopped at the top of the incline, looking down at Ren, "I'm going to make this known, once so listen carefully. I don't like you, and I don't like your friends. Never talk to me again." She said, she didn't like how cold her tone was, but she knew it was necessary. She'd do anything to keep herself and the others safe.
Drift walked away before Ren could answer, making her way back to the castle, where she found the others hanging out - Apo, Shelby, Pyro, and Avid playing what looked to be Guess Who (but with vibes only) and Scott and Owen watching in a mix of amusement and confusion, probably confused as to why the four of them were making it 'vibes only'.
Scott looked up as Drift walked in, the elder vampire giving her a small nod as a greeting.
"I ran into Ren.." Drift suddenly stated, walking over to a storage chest where she unloaded her haul of food and 'bottles of crimson' into it, before joining the other fledglings on the floor.
Owen sat up immediately. "Are you okay?" He asked, looking down at Drift.
Drift nodded softly, "Yeah, I'm okay. I think I scared Ren, though. So that's good." She grinned, finding herself enjoying the ghost of a smirk that appeared on Scott's face.
Drift sat next to Avid, and found herself feeling as though she belonged here...Cause she did. This was her home, and this was her new family, and she'd threaten whoever she had to to protect it.

Chapter 5: He's just standing there.
Summary:
Cleo has the brain cell.
OR -
While walking with Martyn in the woods, they see Avid, who is minding his own business. Martyn is convinced Avid will do something, but Cleo is not convinced.
Cleo is mad but is trying to remain calm, cause they care for Martyn.
Martyn has daddy issues (and other mental issues too There is no mentally well explanation for him.)
Notes:
No TW's but this chapter will be a bit short, like, really short, as I ain't really doing too good right now, but I still wanted to write.
Okay, small warnings - The hate crime (Martyn burning down Avid and Drift's house with them in it), and mentions of attempted murder (Ren and Martyn attempting to stake Avid).
I'm a firm believer in the Parent Cleo Child Martyn duo.
"Martyn might be lying about his richness/poshness/noble status" not in this fic. This boy is peak rich brat.
(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)
Chapter Text
"Cleo, I am telling you, he is up to something," Martyn whispered over at Cleo for what was probably the hundredth time.
Cleo inhaled and exhaled roughly, "Martyn, may I ask what fuels this suspicion of yours? Hm?" They asked, looking over at Martyn, before looking over at Avid, who wasn't even doing much, from what Cleo could make out, Avid was just chilling, "He's just standing there."
"He is standing there menacingly!" Martyn yelled, pointing over at Avid.
"No, he is not." Cleo answered shortly and bluntly, grabbing Martyn's arm and pulling him away, walking him further down the path, "I'm just going to say it, I do not like how you and the others are treating the vampires." Cleo started, trying to remain calm, "I'm a vampire too, you know that."
"You're different!" Martyn yelled back, punching a nearby tree, "Ow- Look, Cleo. You're different, I can trust you."
Cleo crossed their arms, "I don't trust you that much anymore. Avid and Drift didn't even do anything, and you burned their house down with them in it, and then you, Ren, and Abolish broke into the castle and attacked the vampires there. You and Ren tried to stake Avid!" They paused, "How do I know you won't do that to me?"
Martyn opened and closed his mouth, unable to formulate a response, instead just crossing his arms in a huff like a petulant child, going even further with an eye roll, grumbling under his breath.
"Martyn Woodhurst," Cleo hissed, "Don't you dare give me that attitude. I'm sorry your dad abandoned you, I am, I am so sorry, but that does not give you the privilege to attack people." She continued, keeping her tone calm but firm. "You're scared? Okay, well, you're scaring me." They continued, "I will stay in Oakhurst, but if you make me feel as though my life is in danger, I will leave. Do you understand me?"
Martyn inhaled and nodded, letting out a quiet "Yes, ma'am."
"Good. I don't care how your dad disciplined you; this is how I'm doing it. I am not letting you out of my sight. If I catch wind of you trying to kill Avid or anyone else ever again, you will be put in that cell until you can be trusted again. I will not be complicit in letting you become a monster here. You are a sweet boy, I know you are." Cleo continued, firmly grabbing Martyn again to take him back to Oakhurst, "I am disappointed in you."
"...I'm sorry-" Martyn choked out, not wanting to cry.
Cleo sighed, "You are not forgiven at this moment." They answered shortly, continuing to walk, not easing up on their grip on Martyn; they made sure to just be gripping his sleeve so as not to physically harm him.
"I'm telling my father about you," Martyn mumbled.
Cleo rolled their eyes, "Martyn. It's been almost a month - your father isn't coming back." She stated, there was no sugarcoating it at all. Everyone believed it; she just said it.
"He will!" Martyn stated confidently, managing to keep pace as Cleo walked him back to Oakhurst, "Also, you can let go, I'm not 9."
"You goddamn act like it." Cleo hissed back as they reached one of the entrances, "Go sleep. I know you haven't been sleeping well since you burned Avid and Drift's house down. Maybe you'll be...More sane once you've slept."
Martyn groaned dramatically but obliged, walking to his house where he kicked his door open and then slammed it shut. He grumbled as he took off his cloak and hung it up on a cloak peg, before kicking his shoes off, "I don't need sleep." He grumbled to himself as he got into bed, despite his grumbling, Martyn fell asleep after a few minutes of being under his blanket.
Notes:
I'm on the "VSMP Martyn definitely isn't a grown-up/middle-aged man" train, for reference, in this fic he's 19, he's immature and an asshole cause he's young and scared, HOWEVER, 19 places him in the Old Enough To Know Better camp.
I've seen some people say that he gives them young teen vibes, and while I see it, and I will definitely write younger Martyn in different fics, he's 19 in this.
Young and Dumb but old enough to know better, basically.
