Chapter Text
Izuku awakens to the smell of smoke, the fire alarms blaring. His mother, Inko, runs into the room and grabs him. Their apartment building is burning down. It scares Izuku, but then again what doesn’t? His mother rushes him to the door, but trips and falls, sending him sprawling across the floor.
Inko looks up and does her best to smile, “Go on ahead sweetie, I’ll be right behind you.”
Nodding fearfully, Izuku opens the door and runs out. That would be the last time he’d ever see his mother. Soon after Izuku had made his own escape, the entryway had collapsed. Inko had been crushed and burned, never to follow her son out of the fire.
Sitting in the police station, Izuku can’t comprehend it. His mother is just… gone. He’d never see her again. Never eat her food, hear her call his name, see her smile… It’s all gone… Normally in this situation he would cry, cry his eyes out with the signature Midoriya family tears, but he just… can’t. He can’t cry, he doesn’t even feel sad. He just feels… nothing.
… Is there something wrong with him?
Why isn’t he crying after his mother just died? Why can’t he feel the sadness that should be overwhelming him?
Before he can ponder for too long a police officer comes in, “Hey there, kid. Listen, I…” The man takes a breath, “I know there’s a lot going on for you right now, but we need to arrange somewhere for you to stay. We have a lady from Child Services in the other room that wants to meet and talk with you. Would that be okay, or do you want to wait longer?”
Izuku swallows thickly, “I… I can talk now…”
The officer nods, “This way then.”
The officer leads him into another room where a lady in a suit is reading something from a file. The lady turns and smiles at him but… there’s no warmth. This smile is so fake even Izuku can see it, and he’s six.
The lady gives a small wave, “Hello there Midoriya. Why don’t we have a little chat? Now, after reading a bit about you, I think I know just the place that can look after you. You see, there’s this orphanage a few kilometers away from your old home called the Sunrise Home.”
Izuku pales. When his mom wasn’t looking, he’d done a little research on how Quirkless people like him were treated. It… wasn’t good… One of the things he’d learned was that orphanages were horrible for Quirkless kids, especially is they were close to his age. The Sunrise Home had been listed as one of the worst, with actively discriminatory owners and caretakers.
The thought of going someplace like that scares Izuku, and this woman wants to put him in there on purpose. He’s terrified. So naturally, he does what any scared child would do. He runs. He runs through the police station as fast as he can and out the doors. He runs down the street and into an alley, doing his best to get away from anyone that might be chasing him.
As he runs the dam breaks. His tears finally start to fall as the emotions overwhelm him. He’s lost everything. It’s never coming back, his mom especially. It’s just too much.
It had started raining by the time Izuku had originally arrived at the police station, and running through the down pour he’s now completely soaked. He doesn’t care right now, he just needs to get away, away from the lady who wants to send him to the orphanage.
Eventually, he can’t keep running anymore and he falls. He’s in another alley, hopelessly lost. There’s an opening out onto another street, but Izuku has no clue what street it is. He’s never been out this far before, and he’s exhausted and scared. He can’t move anymore, what’s he going to do?
He can’t think, so he just… closes his eyes… and lets the rain wash over him…
Suddenly, the rain stops hitting him, which is weird because he can still hear it. Looking up, he see a lady with long white hair wearing a white and purple kimono and a black blindfold. She’s holding an umbrella over him, stopping the rain from touching him.
She speaks, “I thought I heard someone there. Are you alright?”
Izuku sniffles, “… No…”
The woman frowns slightly, having heard the emotion in his voice, “Do you need help, young one?”
Izuku nods, but then realizes the woman probably can’t see that, “Y-yes… This lady wants to send me to an orphanage, but I don’t wanna go! I know what they’ll do to me…”
The lady hums, tilting her head slightly. Before she can respond, the officer from earlier runs down the alley, stopping to catch his breath.
“Finally! I’ve been looking all over for you kid…”
The officer looks up, immediately standing to attention when he notices the woman, “Lady Himura!”
‘Lady Himura’ smiles at the officer, “Good evening, officer. I’ve heard this boy is planned to be sent to an orphanage, is that correct?”
The officer nods, “Yes, his only living family recently died in a fire, and he needs to be sent somewhere so he can be taken care of.”
Himura hums, “Well, if nothing is finalized yet, I’d be more than happy to take him in.”
Izuku looks up in surprise, eyes wide. This woman had just met him, and she wants to take him into her home?
The officer opens his mouth to says something, but Izuku speaks first, “Are… are you sure? I… I’m Quirkless…”
The lady tilts her head in a questioning manner, “Why would that matter? You’re a child in need, and I wish to help you.”
Izuku stares for a moment before finding strength in his legs. He runs up to Himura and latches onto her, not caring that he’s getting dirt and grime all over her kimono. She doesn’t seem to care either as she chuckles while ruffling Izuku’s hair.
The officer sighs, “Guess he’s going with you then.”
Notes:
Not 100% sure where this idea came from, but I like it and want to see where it goes.
Chapter Text
Sitting in Himura’s fancy car, with a hired driver and everything, Izuku feels very out of place. He’d known from the moment he saw her Himura had money, but this was… a lot. What was this kind of car called again? A limo? Izuku thinks he’s remembering that correctly.
Himura speaks, “I can sense that you’re nervous, Midoriya. Is there anything I can get you to help? Anything you’d like to talk about?”
Well, there’s one thing Izuku always wants to talk about, “Are… Are you a Hero?”
Himura giggles, “You know, most people would see a blind woman and think she couldn’t possibly be a Hero. Not you though. It seems your mind is open to more possibilities. That’s a good trait to have. Now, to answer your question, I am in fact a Hero. Though I tend to work in the Underground scene, so I don’t expect you to have heard of me.”
Izuku perks up, “I know a lot about Heroes! I might’ve heard of you!”
Himura smiles at his enthusiasm, “Well, I guess we’ll test you knowledge then. Have you ever heard of the Hero Morgana?”
Izuku’s eyes sparkle as he smiles, “You mean the Witch Hero? She’s amazing! She’s helped a lot of people, and her Quirk is so cool too! It’s so versatile! I’ve been trying to figure out how it works, but with so few clips of her out there it’s hard to get much info on her.” Izuku gasps, realizing, “Wait, you’re Morgana?!?”
Himura laughs, “Indeed, I am Morgana. You seem to adore Heroes quite a bit, Midoriya. Are you hoping to become one yourself?”
Izuku nods fervently, before remembering once again that Himura can’t see that, “Yes! I want to be just like All Might and save people with a smile!” Izuku wilts slightly, “But people keep making fun of me and telling me to give up because I’m Quirkless.”
Himura frowns, “Well, that’s awfully rude of them. Having a Quirk isn’t a requirement to becoming a Hero. Though, I suppose the HPSC isn’t doing much to help either…” Himura considers for a moment, “Well, if you truly want to be a Hero that badly, I can teach you a way to do so even without a Quirk.”
Izuku’s eyes go wide with surprise, “You can?”
Before Himura can respond, the car pulls to a stop and the driver announces, “Lady Himura, we’ve arrived.”
Himura sighs, “Well, it would seem we will have to discuss that at a later time. Rest assured though, for as long as you are in my care I will do my best to help you reach your dream.”
The driver comes around and help Himura out of the car, Izuku following after. Looking up at the house… yeah this is exactly the sort of house Izuku would expect Himura to own. It’s big, and clearly very old too, but well cared for and maintained. It’s close to a nearby forest as well, the trees brushing up against the fence line.
Waiting for them at the door is a boy that looks around thirteen, with spiky white hair and bright blue eyes. He comes up to greet them.
“You’re back, auntie Hitomi.”
Himura, or rather Hitomi, smiles, “How nice of you to come greet us, Touya. The boy I’ve brought with me is named Izuku Midoriya, and I’ll be looking after him starting today.”
Touya nods, looking Izuku up and down, “Well, nice to meet you. You can just call me Touya, everyone around here does.”
As Izuku nods, a boy with light blue hair and red eyes that appears to be around the age of twelve pokes his head out the front door, “Did Touya tell you he burned himself again?”
Touya turns to glare at the other boy, hissing, “Tenko, you snitch!”
Hitomi clears her throat, voice stern, “Is this true, Touya?”
Sighing, Touya takes one of Hitomi’s hands and guides it to a burn on the underside of his forearm.
Hitomi frowns, “I believe I told you not to practice unless I’m here to help you. You’ve gotten a lot better since I first took you in, but you still don’t have proper control over your abilities.”
Touya looks away, evidently upset with himself for worrying Hitomi like this. A small pulse of green energy escapes Hitomi’s hand and spreads across Touya’s burn. Izuku watches in awe as the burn rapidly shrinks before disappearing altogether.
Hitomi sighs, “I know you want to improve faster, Touya, but I gave you rules and a schedule for a reason. If you push yourself too hard you’ll give yourself injuries that even I can’t heal, and none of us want that.”
Touya sighs, “I know…”
Hitomi moves her hand to ruffle Touya’s hair, “Now, why don’t we head inside? Midoriya still needs to meet everyone, after all.”
Pretending to be upset his hair got messed up, Touya leads the way inside. Coming into a living room, there are three other kids waiting for them. One is Tenko, who Izuku saw earlier, but the other two are mysteries to him. One is a girl around his age (maybe slightly older?) with blonde hair and yellow cat-like eyes. The other is a boy around Tenko’s age with purple hair, red eyes, and a very apparent reptilian mutation Quirk.
Izuku gives them all a shy wave, unsure of what to do.
Hitomi turns to Izuku, “Now then, I believe introduction are in order. As you may have figured out by now, my name I Hitomi Himura. I am both the Underground Hero Morgana, as well as the current head of the Himura Clan. You’ve already met my nephew Touya, and the others are Tenko Shimura, Himiko Toga, and Shuichi Iguchi. They’re all under my care as well, and I hope you all can get along.”
Izuku nods, but he has a question festering in his mind, “You… you said you can teach me to be a Hero without a Quirk.”
Touya’s eyebrows shoot up, apparently not having expected this. There are similar shocked reactions from the other kids, but they seem more surprised he doesn’t have a Quirk than actively hateful. That, and they seem surprised Hitomi offered to teach him, possibly because he’d only just arrived.
Hitomi smiles, “That I did. And I will.” Hitomi leans down, “And I’m confident that I can because of a little secret I’ve been keeping. You see, Midoriya, I’m just as Quirkless as you are.”
Notes:
Proper name reveal for the witch as well as a look at Izuku’s new friends/adoptive siblings/found family. Next time will feature some talk about magic, and possibly a visit from a special guest depending on if I think I can squeeze it in. Anyway, see y’all around
