Chapter Text
“I’m going to ride with Lily.” Maggie says, taking a few steps backwards and away from Boone. “I can’t ride-.”
“Don’t leave me alone in the truck.” Boone says, following her to close the distance Maggie is trying to get. “You’ll be sittin’ in the back with me, baby. You’ll be sittin’ where you normally sit.”
“I’d love to sit in the back with you, Boone.” Maggie breathes, tightening her grip on the heating pad in her arms. “Really I would. But I can’t-I can’t watch Ty-.”
“I know.” Boone agrees, his shoulders sinking as he steps into her personal space. “It hurts to see. I know. But please, don’t leave me ‘lone.”
“Come ride with me in Lily’s car.” Maggie says instead, “I-.”
Boone smiles, a resolute but calm smile, and leans forwards, pressing his forehead into hers. Maggie lets him, sliding her eyes shut when he does. They stand like that for just a few moments, before Boone pulls away and presses a sloppy kiss onto her lips.
“I can’t not ride with Ty. I’ll see you anytime we stop, alright?” Boone says, pulling away from her. That makes Maggie feel horrible, because she didn’t even see it as abandoning Ty-. “And I didn’t say that to make you feel bad. I understand not wantin’ to see him heart eyes someone else. I’ll see you next time we stop, okay?”
Maggie nods, still feeling terrible, and turns to head back towards Lily’s SUV. It’s been a few weeks since the EF-5 in El Reno, and after their video of the incident and Kate stopping the tornado, their views and subscribers skyrocketed. They’re now getting paid, by partnerships and sponsorships, but also getting funded by The National Weather Service. Millions hit their shared, and personal, accounts terrifying fast. The first thing they did was find a nice diner and actually have a decent meal, and then they hit up some car dealerships.
Dexter’s beat up camper was replaced with a state of the art, new camper that was more fancy than anything Maggie’s ever seen. The old, barely functioning VW van that Lily has been driving is sent back to the Owens’ farm so Lily can still keep it, and replaced with a nice, respectable Bronco.
Lily raises an eyebrow at Maggie’s approaching form, from where she was checking the GoPro on the hood of the bronco, before frowning when she sees Maggie has her bag on her shoulder and her heating pad.
“Hey Lils.” Maggie smiles, “Is it okay that I ride with you? I know you normally ride solo-.”
“I always have space for you, Mags.” Lily smiles, “Let’s get your heating pad plugged in, yeah?”
Tyler steps through the gap behind his truck and the Wranglers camper, taking stock in where the group is. Tyler had instructed them to load up, Kate saw a promising storm a few miles out, and they had started to do so.
Dani and Dexter are in the front seats of the camper, and Ben is peeking out between them to look up at the sky, Boone is opening the back door of the truck, and Tyler assumes Lily is getting into the Bronco.
Only when he’s heading around the truck and towards the front seat, does he happen to glance past Boone into the truck and falter noticeably.
Maggie’s not in the truck, in her normal seat in the middle, instead Boone’s backpack is sat in her seat.
“Boone?” Tyler asks, taking a few steps back to look back towards the Bronco. “Where’s -?”
Tyler’s eyes find Maggie sitting in the passenger seat of the Bronco, messing with something not in Tyler’s view and laughing with Lily, who is in the driver's seat.
“Why’s Maggie in the Bronco?”
“She wanted to ride with Lily.” Boone shrugs, not even turning to look back at Tyler. “She needed more space to stretch out. Her legs have been killin’ her.”
“I know that.” Tyler dismisses, watching Maggie sit back in her seat and giggle at something Lily says. He can feel his mood souring, seeing her laugh and smile and he can’t hear it. Her and Boone are the only ones that can make Twisters, as Maggie prefers to call them, fun for Tyler, and now she’s sitting at the back of their convoy. “This whole day is going to suck now.”
“Just let her be for today, Ty.” Boone says, turning just slightly to smile at Tyler. “She’s not feelin’ well, but she’ll be better tomorrow.”
“Alright.” Tyler nods, stepping back onto the gravel road of the gas station and off of thick grass surrounding the entrance of the gas station lot. “But the whole vibes of the truck are going to be off, and I won’t feel as comfortable without her in the truck. Her and you make me comfortable. It’s going to be weird.”
“It’s just for today, Ty.” Boone assures again, his body instinctively relaxing when Tyler slides a hand up his back to rest on the back of Boone’s neck. “We ain’t doing nothing crazy, just filmin’ from a distance. It’ll be over before you know it and you can cuddle up to Maggie at the next stop."
“Just for today.” Tyler sighs, leaning forward and pressing a quick kiss to the back of Boone’s head. “Let’s get this show on the road. The faster we get these shots the faster I get to see Maggie again.”
The day ended up being a bust. The Tornado they were chasing ended up not even touching down, and the few that actually touched down aren’t even worth filming. Tyler spends the day in frustration, barely keeping up a cheerful front for the filming cameras, and the entire crew can feel it in his growls and huffs when each tornado rescinds or has so little force it couldn’t even be classified as an EF-1.
Boone’s the one that ends up calling the day, suggesting they find the closest town and hunker down for the night. Tyler quickly agrees and the team ends up in Elgin, which seems very lively once they pull into town, and everyone's mood climbs when they see large banners and signs about a Rodeo littering the main street of the town.
“Great Choice, Boone.” Tyler grins, his eyes finding Boone’s in the rearview mirror. Boone beams back at Tyler, and turns back to look out of his window.
“Hey, Ty?” Maggie’s voice crackles through their intercom system, “There ain’t any hotels or motels in town, and the only things I could find were these cute little painted Silos. They have two available, which can fit three or four to a Silo. Want me to book ‘em?”
“Go ahead.” Tyler agrees, reaching down to press on the speak button of the truck's intercom “Get us the cutest one. You guys take the lead.”
Maggie laughs quietly, but it’s enough to raise Tyler’s sour mood a bit. At least she sounds happy. Tyler sits back, a soft smile on his face. He slows down tremendously, observing as Lily passes the camper and then the truck, before sliding into the front on the convoy.
“Can I ask a question?” Kate says, from where she is curled up in the passenger seat. Tyler nods, sparing her a glance before returning his eyes to the road. “Correct me if this comes across…rude? But, I’m confused about your love life, Tyler.”
Tyler doesn’t even have to look in the rearview mirror to see how straight Boone’s spine goes, but the question makes sense to Tyler. Everyone in the Wranglers have had the same question at least once.
“Boone, Maggie, and I are in love.” Tyler says simply, with a shrug, “We’ve been datin’ since Junior Year of High School.”
Tyler glances back at Boone then, smirking at the pretty flush on Boone’s face, smiling at him warmly. Boone smiles back, but weirdly he looks relieved at Tyler’s statement, so Tyler takes it a step further.
“We’re a closed relationship. I don’t think I could ever love someone as much as I love them anyway.” Tyler explains, “We aren’t out to the fans, cause I’m sure Boone and I being together would cause some issues with viewership, but I’m pretty much over hidin’. I’m just waitin’ till they're ready.”
“What the fuck, Ty?!” Boone nearly shouts, leaning as forward as his seatbelt will allow. “We’ve been waitin’ on you!”
“What?” Tyler says, finding Boone’s eyes in the mirror. “No. You and Maggie said you didn’t want to jeopardize anything-.”
“Ty, That was like five years ago.” Boone laughs, “Back when you were still posting about the Rodeo. We haven’t had a conversation since then?”
“Not really.” Tyler chuckles, “We can have that tomorrow mornin’. Tonight’s for the Rodeo!”
Boone nods, sitting back, with a huge grin on his face. He looks like a huge weight has been lifted off his shoulders, and that makes Tyler happy, but wildly confused about what exactly he was concerned about in the first place.
“That’s unique.” Kate says, and Tyler watches as Boone’s shoulders tense at her words. “I’ve never heard of more than two people in a relationship. Fancy.”
“It’s fun.” Tyler agrees, “and it’s healthy. It just makes sense to us. What about you and Javi?”
Boone then looks confused, and now, Tyler knows exactly why Boone was relieved. He thought Kate was feeling some type of way about him.
“We’re taking it slow.” Kate says, a soft smile on her face. “He’s focused on cutting ties with Riggs and others right now, and after the Tornado Season we have some vacation plans.”
“You’re datin’ Javi?” Boone asks, his eyes finding Kate’s.
“We’re not dating exactly, but we’re taking it slow with the intent to date.” Kate explains, “I haven’t dated anyone since Jeb, and we both feel uneasy about our past.”
“Javi’s a good guy.” Boone says, sharing a warm smile with Kate. The town is really just one long road through the center of the town, with one neighborhood of small houses on the right side of the main road, and that’s where Lily turns in. They only go about two roads into the neighborhood before they can see the Silos. They really are cute, small old fashioned silos with murals, on the sides of the silos and wooden porches and there are only two of them in total. Between the two silos are rows of flowers and plants, and both porches have rocking chairs.
“These are adorable!” Kate coos, and Tyler has to agree. Lily pulls the Bronco onto the closest part of the gravel park in front of the silos, and Tyler pulls in next to her and turns off the truck. Dexter pulls the camper long-ways into the remainder of the parking space, and everyone starts to slide out of their respective cars.
Tyler throws the door to the truck open, grabbing his keys, and slamming the door shut in a hurry to open the passenger door to the Bronco. When he drags the door open, Maggie gives him a very confused look until he leans forward and drags her into a tight hug.
“Hey, Ty.” Maggie giggles, wrapping her own arms around him as he buries his face into her throat. “What’s this about?”
“Missed you.” Tyler grumbles, nipping at her throat before pulling back. “C’mon, we’ve got something to talk about.”
“Okay.” Maggie nods, unbuckling her seat belt and starting to unplug her heating pad. Tyler pulls her bag out of the floorboard, and helps her out of the Bronco, thanking Lily for letting Maggie ride with her. The crew groups up on the gravel walk that connects the silos, and Tyler takes over the silos assignments.
“Everyone can pick where they stay, but I will make it known that I’m real excited to share a bed with my partners.” Tyler says, and watches as everyone's face screws up in mortification, and his partners’ faces flush in embarrassment. “So Maggie, Boone, and I are taking the silo to the left.”
“Gross, Tyler.” Lily groans, “So Kate and Me in the other Silo, Dani? Ben?”
“I’m sleeping in the camper.” Dani disputes, “Dex and I have sleeping arrangements.”
“I’ll stay with you guys.” Ben nods, “I’m sure it will be much better than the motels.”
After the events in El Reno, Ben boldly asked if he could join The Wranglers. He didn’t have any ties to London besides an ex-wife, a nearly empty apartment, and an underappreciated job in reporting. Of course, after seeing his actions in El Reno, everyone eagerly agreed, and Ben was officially a Tornado Wrangler.
“We can rent Hotel rooms now, Benny.” Boone grins, “This is the first of many improvements!”
“The code for your silo is 1576.” Maggie reads off her phone, searching for their code as well.
“Alright. Everyone up for settling down for a bit, and heading out to the Rodeo in an hour?” Tyler asks, tightening his grip on Maggie’s side.
“Will you be ready in an hour, Ty?” Lily grins, heading back towards the Bronco as everyone starts to move.
“Oh, I can be ready in an hour.” Tyler assures, and turns to lead Maggie and Boone towards their silo, seemingly unaware of the joke he just made at the expense of himself.
It sends the other Wranglers into snickers, but the trio ignore them in favor of actually getting into the silo. Maggie punches the code into the keypad of the door, and Boone pushes the door open when the keypad flashes green. Tyler and Boone, like true southern gentlemen, wait for Maggie to enter the silo first.
It’s so cute on the inside.
The inside follows the curve of the silo, and immediately left of the door is the staircase leading up to a second floor. But into the staircase is two bunk beds, and a small living room with a loveseat and decent sized tv on the wall. Directly across from the front door is a small doorway that appears to lead into a kitchen, and another door is propped open across the living room to reveal a bathroom.
The crisp air conditioned air makes Maggie feel gross the second her sweat starts to dry under her clothes.
“I feel gross.” Maggie sing-songs, kicking off her muddy boots. “I think I’m gonna take a shower before we go-.”
“Can we talk first?” Tyler asks, squeezing her fingers and starting to lead her towards the loveseat in the living room. “I feel like there are some things we need to talk about.”
“Okay.” Maggie nods, and Tyler feels how tense her fingers go in his. Maggie’s always been scared of miscommunication in their relationship, preferring when Boone and him tell her exactly what’s wrong in an attempt to avoid anger and fighting.
Tyler ends up on the end seat of the loveseat, and Boone gets the other seat, with Maggie squished between them tightly.
“I feel as though we’ve had a bit of a misunderstanding.” Tyler says, shifting a bit so he’s facing both of their partners. “I haven’t…I’m sorry for disappearin’ on you two to go after Kate. I needed to figure her out, especially after seeing her and Javi letting into it. I should have called and explained, but we got caught up in calculations and making her solution and shit. But, I want to go on the record and say, today fucking sucked.”
Boone chuckles, running his fingers up and down Maggie’s back slowly, smiling right back at Tyler. Maggie looks much more uncomfortable and unsure, but she’s still attempting a soft smile at Tyler.
“I’m not used to or comfortable with you not being in the truck.” Tyler says, his gaze fully on Maggie’s. “I don’t like you not being there because I can’t control our situation if I don’t have you with me. Before I ask how to fix it, I want to clarify something else. I do not have any type of feelings for Kate beyond platonic, and she has no feelings for me either.”
“She’s datin'-but-not-datin' Javi!” Boone exclaims, pulling Maggie’s attention. “We don’t got nothin’ to worry about, Darlin’. Tell her the other thing, Ty!”
“But I need you to know, Maggie.” Tyler says, reaching forward to cup the back of her neck. “I do not and will never have feelings for anyone besides you two. So don’t worry about Kate. The other thing is, Boone made me aware that you two were waitin’ on me to make our relationship public, but I’ve been waitin’ on you two-!”
“What?!” Maggie yelps, “No, Ty! You didn’t want to jeopardize-!”
“I said the same thing about you two.” Tyler roars with laughter, “But since all three of us are on the same page about going public, how about we lean more into our relationship in the videos? We can ease everyone into it.”
“That sounds perfect.” Maggie smiles, and much like Boone earlier, she appears relieved and unburdened by some made-up knowledge in her head.
“Amazing.” Tyler nods, waiting for confirmation from Boone, before leaning back into the couch with a sigh. “Alright, give me a kiss, and let’s get ready for the Rodeo.”
Maggie shoots forward quickly and presses a firm kiss to Tyler’s lips and bunching her closest hand up in Tyler’s flannel. Tyler grins against her lip and leans her backwards into Boone so Tyler can slide a hand around the back of Boone’s neck. When he pulls away from her, he wastes zero time in attaching his lips to Boone’s. Boone deepens the kiss, groping at Tyler’s shoulder, and slides his tongue along the seam of Tyler’s lips. Maggie turns her head and starts to pepper kisses on Boone and Tyler’s chins and throats, and Tyler can’t help the noise that leaves him when Boone’s tongue slides into his mouth.
All too soon, Boone is pulling back from Tyler and immediately pressing his mouth against Maggie’s. She sighs into the kiss, and Tyler takes the opening to press his lips to all available skin on his partners. Maggie ends up being the one who breaks up the back and forth the three of them fall into a few steamy minutes later when their petting gets too heavy, and clothes are in the process of being pulled off.
“Gotta get ready for the Rodeo.” Maggie pants, her hands covering both of her partners’ mouths. She’s been pushed against the back of the loveseat, with her thighs pulled over her partners’ laps, and her shirt is pulled up over her bra by Boone, and one of Tyler’s hands is sat high on her right thigh. “I gotta shower and you all gotta take care of those.”
Maggie drags her hands away from their mouth in favor of giving their arousals both a quick, but firm, squeeze through their denim jeans. Tyler and Boone both groan when she pulls away and shoves herself up off the loveseat. She grins when the two men immediately close the distance, Boone’s hands dropping down to Tyler’s jean’s zipper and Tyler dragging Boone closer by his shirt.
“You okay if we take care of each other, Baby?” Boone asks, making quick work of Tyler’s button and zipper.
“Have fun, boys.” Maggie smiles, grabbing her bag from next to the front door and heading up the stairs. She forces herself to not look back when Tyler whines, and she can hear them quickly rearranging on the couch. Upstairs is just as cute as the rest of the silo, with the natural sand-colored pointed ceiling of the silo. The room is the entire floor, aside from another door across the bedroom leading into what she assumes is a bathroom, the bed is luckily a king-sized bed and has two nightstands next to it. Across from the bed is a mounted TV, which has two chairs on either side of it that have cute little cow pillows on them. The bed is large and dressed in comfy-looking bedding and a bunch of pillows.
Maggie wants nothing more than to fall face down on the bed, or call her boys up so she can watch them take care of each other, but she forces herself to walk past the bed and into the bathroom.
The bathroom is full-sized, and Maggie wants to shriek in excitement. It’s been such a long time since she’s stood in a full-sized clean bathroom, and now she gets to use it!
She sets her bag on the counter, and pulls it open to dig through all of the random shit she has in it. She finds some complimentary shampoo and conditioner she took from the last motel they stayed at, and her trusty razor. Her boys don’t care about her grooming tendencies, but Maggie likes to shave her legs whenever applicable.
She doesn’t waste any time undressing and balling her dirty clothes in the sink, and happily turning on the shower. The shower is huge, stoned, and has a few different height corner-shelves that Maggie just realizes has various different shampoos and conditioners.
Fancy Shampoos and Conditioners with cursive writing and pretty colors. Maggie drops her stolen shampoo and conditioner back in her bag, and turns the shower on.
She gets lost in the shower, grooming and scrubbing at her skin and hair, and standing under the spray of consistently warm water.
She uses some random brand of fall, maple scented shampoo and conditioner, shaves and exfoliates, and is standing under the spray with her eyes closed when she senses a presence in the bathroom with her.
She peaks an eye open at the same moment two whistles come from the other side of the glass wall of the shower. Boone and Tyler are standing with their sides pressed together, their eyes roaming up and down the expanse of Maggie’s body.
“Looking beautiful, Baby.” Boone grins, and somehow he and Tyler look put together. Boone is wearing black pants, a loose green tee that’s tucked into his pants, with a green and black bandana tied around his neck. He’s wearing his signature Tornado Wrangler hat, and his old Rodeo boots.
Tyler is dressed in dark-washed blue jeans with a light blue colored button up that’s she’s sure he’s worn to the Rodeo before, with his normal boots and his tan cattleman hat. Notably, both boys are wearing matching belt buckles that are silver and modeled after Maggie’s Texas Longhorn, Atticus.
“Voyeurs.” Maggie smiles, “You boys look pretty.”
“Thank you!” Tyler beams, “Baby, everyone’s downstairs and ready. We can send em on-.”
“It’s okay, Ty.” Maggie says, not really surprised she got caught up and lost track of time. “You guys just head on down and I’ll find y’all when I get down there.”
“Ah, Nah, Baby. I can wait for you.” Boone dismisses, sliding an arm around Tyler’s waist. “Ty can head on down with the crew-.”
“Bo, I’m a big girl. I can find my way down to a Rodeo.” Maggie assures, reaching forward and turning off the shower. She slides the glass door open, and steps out onto the bathmat. “Let me get ready, and I just might have a bit of a surprise for you. I’ll meet you down at the Rodeo.”
“A surprise?” Tyler asks, reaching forward and dragging her into her chest. She’s definitely not dry, because her towel is being held hostage behind her boys, so of course, she’s wetting his shirt but he doesn’t seem to mind.
“You boys didn’t think you’re the only ones who are getting action tonight, did ya?” Maggie grins, leaning up on her toes to press a kiss to Tyler’s mouth. “Head on down to the Rodeo, and maybe you’ll get a surprise.”
“Yes, Ma’am.” Boone agrees, leaning over and pressing a kiss to her lips quickly. “C’mon, Ty.”
“Are you totally sure?” Tyler asks, dragging his fingers up and down her spine gently. “Like Boone said-.”
“I’m fine.” Maggie smiles, “Now go on before I get Lily up here-.”
“Already on the way out.” Boone smiles, pressing a kiss to her shoulder and stepping back towards the door. “Ty, C’mon.”
Tyler groans softly, before releasing Maggie and following Boone after planting a kiss on her forehead.
“If we don’t hear from you in forty-five minutes we’re coming to find you.” Tyler says, linking his fingers with Boone’s.
“Ty’s just joking.” Boone assures, pulling Tyler out of the bathroom and out of sight. “You’ve got thirty minutes!”
