It’s funny, isn’t it? To lay on the ground, beaten and bloodied, consciousness fading like the sun at twilight… they should’ve expected this. They were weak and awful and—
“Keep your eyes open.” They heard a feminine voice…. Who? “You bumped your noggin real bad, huh?” The voice chuckles, patching them up before scooping them up in a bridal hold.
“…warm.” They mumbled, tired and lightheaded.
“I get that a lot… keep talking, we’re going to somewhere safe, alright?” She starts walking.
“Who are you?” They leaned their head against her chest
“I am the wonderful Vanessa~ you can call me Vain. I come from another universe.” She winks with a cheeky smile
“I see… why help *me* then…?” They asked, tears slowly rolling down their face. Why were they crying? They weren’t even feeling that bad?
“Hey, hey, it’s alright… I’m here to help because it’s my job to help out others like us…” she says, placing them on a bench in the town they just entered to wipe their tears
“I just…-sniffle- I don’t know why I’m so upset- fuck- I’m sorry-“ a sob left them as the other hero pulled them into a hug.
“It’s okay baby.” She rubs the back of their head, holding them like they were her child. “You’re doing amazing.”
“I am?” They held onto her tightly. She was so warm and gentle, it’s hard to imagine her fighting like they do.
“You are. You’re still alive, even after everything. And you’re still pushing through… I think that’s amazing.” She pulled back, wiping their tears
“….thank you. I..I really needed that.” They sniffled
They both got up and walked over to the inn to rest, vain staying by their side until she was absolutely sure they’d be okay. She left them to rest, leaving them her call card in case they needed her guidance.
