Chapter Text
Late Night — Woodsboro
Sophia lay sprawled across her bed, chin propped on a pillow, absentmindedly scrolling through messages while an old horror movie flickered on her TV. The windows were open just enough to let in the cool night breeze, curtains swaying softly. Her room felt warm, safe, familiar.
Her phone rang.
Unknown Caller.
She hesitated then answered, because curiosity always won.
“Hello?”
The voice on the other end was new. Deep. Casual. Almost friendly.
“Hey. What’re you doing?”
Sophia arched her brows lightly and a smile creeps on her lips. “Watching a scary movie. I’ve seen it before, but I’m bored.” There was a small chuckle through the line.
“Interesting, so… you got a boyfriend?”
Sophia smiled, amused. “Why? You wanna ask me out on a date?”
“Maybe… Do you have a boyfriend?”
She rolled onto her back, eyes on the ceiling. “No.”
“Girlfriend?”
Sophia rolled her eyes as she grinned. “No.”
A beat. Not awkward. Just there.
“You never told me your name.”
Sophia blinked, her smile lingering but softer now—cautious curiosity edging in.
“You called me yet you don’t know my name?” Sophia chuckled. Clearly enjoying what’s happening.
Playing along wouldn’t hurt, right? “Why do you wanna know my name?”
The voice changed.
“Because I wanna know who I’m looking at.”
Sophia’s heart stopped cold.
Her eyes slid, slowly, carefully—towards her bedroom window. Thin curtains glowing with the lamplight behind her.
The breeze. The dark outside. The feeling of being seen.
Her voice came out small, barely shaped.
“…What?”
The line crackled—not with static, but with breath.
“You shouldn’t smile at everyone, Sophia.”
The room suddenly felt too big. Too open. Too exposed.
“Some of them don’t deserve you.”
The call ended.
Sophia didn’t move.
Didn’t scream.
She just stared at the curtains.
Someone out there saw her.
Someone out there chose her.
She wasn’t being hunted.
She was being kept.
