Work Text:
The halls of the huge mansion were unusually quiet. A silence had fallen ever since the very person who made the house a home had left. The vinyl player was uncharacteristically still, the kitchen devoid of the mouthwatering aroma of the baked goods that she never let run out, Sylus never letting her run out of the ingredients, more than happy to provide her with all she wanted, only content when she was happy. The rooms were now devoid of laughter and the giggles of the two having a rare domestic day off from work, finding comfort and rest in each other's presence.
However, the most silent of all was the man himself. It was worse than before he had found her again. Much worse. He no longer smirked or found joy in playing with his enemies before destroying them. Nothing was amusing anymore, not when he knew he would never see her again. He became far more brutal and quicker in ending the devious, evil schemes of those who dared to cross him. His sharp features were now gaunt, his eyes sunken in, devoid of emotion. He looked like a man who no longer had anything to live for. His only joy in life, the only person who was able to tame the dragon within and feed his soft side, was gone. He had no reason to be soft anymore. Not after the world had never shown him kindness in the first place. Not when the same people who had shunned him had now taken her away from him, too. Not when he hated them for it.
But, mostly, he blamed himself for not being able to protect her.
He was a monster. They knew it. He believed it. And without her, they would now find out just how much of a monster he could be.
