Comment on I Hold the Horror's Hand

  1. I agonise so much over the character voices, so it really is a relief to know they sound authentic to the characters!

The words Lucifer used are from the Hymn to Vesta (Hymn 83), part of the Orphic Hymns! It just fit Lilith so perfectly--or at least, it suits Lucifer's view of her, and the function he intended the portrait to serve in the house. I'm also happy you liked Alastor's radio spiels! It took me a few drafts to get right, and a lot of them were only added nearer the fic's completion, and I was chewing on my lip trying to nail the voice Alastor might use for broadcasting vs. the voice he uses when he speaks with Lucifer in person.

Literally! Lucifer is the most... confusing thing to him. Like, this tiny? Little white boy? With zero awareness it seems, always ready to trade a barb, and yet when Alastor threatens him Lucifer has no issue threatening him right back with a sort of confidence that makes Alastor think twice. For him, he definitely goes through a realisation (off-screen) that it isn't necessarily Lucifer being naive and unaware out there in the dark--he is aware, at least of the potential for physical danger, he just genuinely doesn't seem to care. Not only that, he's certain nothing will hurt him, and Alastor sees that. It's a sort of confidence Alastor would normally appreciate, except it baffles him. And I love it.

I had so much fun writing that scene. It was one of the ones I completed early on in the process, and then adjusted as the rest of the fic filled out. I always just picture Lucifer miming that throat-slitting gesture when Lotte isn't looking. Neither of these two are ready for each other.

I'm so glad! The next chapter will be up very soon ;) Thank you so much! Your comments always make my day (and week, and month) 🖤
