As for Sue, I'm going on practical lines meaning she doesn't magically learn how to use a sword, she already knows how to do more than archery even if it isn't her strong suit. She's more of a hunter than a fighter but it doesn't mean she wasn't trained. Hence, mounted combat. Now, pole-arms for instance, that strikes me as a mostly Lycian-style combat so she wouldn't know it well, if at all.
You might think so but what are the options for trade? Sacae, which has few or no exports. Bern, a current aggressor. Etruria, an occupying force (even if friendly). The Western Isles, owned by Eturia/Lycia already. Ilia, which only exports mercenaries. Nabata? They don't have a lot of options right this second, which is what Lilina is counting on. If it were a time of peace, she would have a much harder time getting away with this.
