Comment on The Nerd is Strong With This One

  1. Yess, update!! I feel ashamed that I actually had to look up their cosplays. Tsk tsk at me, and to think I used to always go to cons...
Really liked this chapter, and I can't wait to see just what will happen at the Nerdlesque! ;) Keep up the awesome work!

    1. No need to be ashamed haha. I'm glad to have a fellow con-goer invested in this story. Thanks for the pat on the back! I appreciate it hugely.

      1. Oh yeah, I used to go to a bunch! Though most of them were anime related. By the way, your fic made me (finally) watch The Machine! Thank you for that, I really enjoyed the movie!! :)
And you're very welcome! Out of curiosity, do you have any specific reference pictures for Lexa's tattoos?

        1. Admittedly I know next to nothing about anime. Only what my brother has told me really. And I'm glad you liked the movie! It's one of my favourites for sure. Gritty, gory and unapologetic. Just the way I like em'.
I don't actually have any specific references no but I will hunt for some now. They are mostly tattoo ideas I had for myself that I didn't end up following through with due to already having so much of my skin covered. The gear and raven are direct show references though. The gear being a play on the Commander symbol she wears between her brows.

          1. Oh man, I used to be EXTREMELY into anime back in the day! Yeah, I really enjoyed it actually!! Which surprised me, cause lately I've been so tired of TV shows and movies like I will legit get ten minutes in and then my attention is gone. But this one was able to keep my attention throughout so!! :)
Yeah, I gathered that :) The tribal cuff one is the canon one, right? I was a bit confused about the tentacle one! I don't think I've ever seen anything like that, so my brain sort of short circuited. I even googled it to try and find a visual hah!
You have tattoos!? Damn that's so cool! I always wanted to do one, but alas my doctor told me that it could form a keloide so... Plus I handle pain really badly hah, is probably end up kicking the tattoo artist! What are your tattoos of?

            1. That's me with CGI heavy movies (basically any of the Marvel ones where 90 percent of what you see is CGI.) I fall asleep within the first half hour.
Yea the cuff is the canon tattoo. And I couldn't find a tentacle one like I described so I'll probably end up sketching out what I imagine it looking like and post it to my tumblr.
I do, I have a ton. Left arm is an ongoing nautical sleeve, left ribs is a giant Celtic knot, left shoulder is script, right shoulder is a compass/anchor, right neck is a wasp, right chest is a Celtic hound, right shoulder is my family crest, right bicep is a panel from a Judge Dredd comic, right inside forearm is script, right outside forearm is the planet express ship from Futurama, right inside calf is a pokemon, and right outside calf is Freakazoid. There are photos of some on my instagram, same name as this.

              1. Yeah, the one I found that I think came closer to your description (but still not quite there yet) was this one: https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/a3/c3/7c/a3c37cacaf5fa6b92c8a5a50cd3da98f.jpg
Holy shit, that's a ton of tattoos!! Are there any meanings behind them? I looked up your instagram and they look amazing! Holy shit, you're really brave for doing so many! Which one hurt the most?

                1. That's a decent enough reference photo. I think I will do up a sketch of what I imagine though.
Yeah I kind of can't stop. But in a good way! Thanks, I am a fan of them myself. =] Pain wise, it's a toss up between my ribs and the middle of the arm (meaning the elbow and ditch). Back is nothing and neck was good too. The Celtic ones are for my family history. I'm like 99 percent Scottish. Nautical ones are 'cause I'm an East Coaster, or rather a Bluenoser to be more precise. And as you can probably tell, I'm a massive nerd so the nerdy ones sorta speak for themselves.

                  1. Well, show me the sketch once you finish it! :) I'm really curious!
Hah, I noticed! Ohhh, that's cool!! My family is so mixed I'd never be able to truly do something like that :') I had to look Bluenoser up cause I never heard that term before, oops! Looo, true true!!! Really cool tattoos though!! I wish I was that brave to do that! Also, out of curiosity, what is the wasp supposed to represent (if anything)?

                    Comment Actions
                    1. I'll probably post the sketch to my tumblr when I do it and I'll link it in the notes of a new chapter or something so you'll see when it's done!
Yeah Bluenoser isn't a very well known term which is funny since it's been around since the 18th Century haha.
The wasp is a nod to my favourite book series The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. The main character Lisbeth Salandar has that tattoo. She's arguably one of the most influential and important characters for feminism in recent history. If you haven't read the books I would highly suggest them. Be aware though, there are lots of triggering themes so that's a thing.

                      1. Ok, cool!! :)
Really?? Wow, I literally have NEVER heard of it! Huh, the more you know.
Ohh, got it! Ah, a few people recommended me that book (and also the movie), but I have yet to read/watch it. To be honest I don't even know what exactly is the plot! Shame on me. I'm ok with triggers though, honestly I have yet to find anything that really triggers me.

                        1. Yeah us Bluenoser's have been around a while haha.
If you can handle it, it's definitely an awesome read. A little long and occasionally heavy handed but totally worth it. =]

                          1. I will make sure to check it out! I'm unfortunately always procrastinating though (I have three books that I have started and have yet to finish), so I have no idea WHEN I will check that book out, but I will someday for sure! Is the movie any good?

                            Comment Actions
                            1. US and Swedish versions are both awesome movies. I personally found that the US one was actually more true to the source material which surprised me. But there's only the first book made into a movie with that series. The Swedish one is actually all three books so it's a full series. I'd recommend watching all of them. =]
