I'm glad I can bring you some joy. Your fics are just marvelous, so the pleasure's all mine!
I would never have known you were still trying to work out some of the mechanics of this; it reads utterly solid and stable to me, so great work! I am struggling big time with writing in this fandom because I can't write self-assured fluff to save my life, apparently. All the believable iterations of the characters (and what we love about them in the movie) are so far from what my heart has to offer a written work that it's creating a lot of issues for me. So seeing you handle the cynicism and realistic lives of these people (ie, as people who have to see and deal with both good and bad on a very mundane, everyday level) is really fulfilling to me, and gives me a lot to think about and learn. Which I guess is my way of saying, keep up the good work, fandom elder! :) <3
I agree that it's super important for people living priviledged lives (as much as I hate the term), especially young people, to do exactly what Lio is in this story. I hope it didn't come across as a criticism of your choices; it's more just the reaction I get as a reader to being so involved in the characters as you've written them. I read chapter two, and I really like where you went with this subject there. I'm super curious where Lio will be in terms of class consciousness at the end of the story, and what morals we'll pick up as the readers along the way. there's so many good ones and I'm liking them all so far. My little radical heart is enriched by this fic, haha. :D
Cougars: It's so true!! Aside from the makeup of fandom spaces online, I think part of the issue is that the anime cosplay scene used to have nobody between 25 and 65 in it. That's not as true now, especially with more anime fans moving into the western comic scene and vice versa. But I still find myself needing to apologize somehow. I'll have to work on that.
Galo: Ugh you're totally right. Even beyond moms, for my life at least, he's like that person that, if you can manage to befriend him, it somehow makes you feel like you're on the way to being a better person with a better life and better friends around you. He's such a boy scout, the perfect kind of guy that you'd want in your apartment building to help open salsa jars and cut tree limbs and stuff. He's just...so good. I could read about his strapping exploits of Lawful Good all day long, haha.
I can't believe that Agro thing was real, but it's nice to know it was loved. X'D
Happy holidays to you too! Sorry I haven't been able to respond to your lovely comments yet. I'm a bit peopled-out, and that includes through text, too, it seems! But I plan to get to them eventually :)
I'm really glad this has been a fulfilling read for you! Writing is not the hardest thing any of us do but sometimes it's such a goddamn bear to get a word out. It's taken me over a decade to find something approaching a voice (apparently I'm easy to pick out of a lineup, these days). Keep writing! Keep writing even when you think it's bad, you learn so much from it!
I didn't think it was a criticism at all, I like having these sorts of chats. It's really rewarding as a writer! You don't have to apologise for anything!
Agro was a goddamn institution and I can't believe he ever existed. Sometimes I feel like he's a national hallucination.
