    This fic is absolutely delightful. You have a wonderful command of pacing, and the political intrigue is unfolding really naturally. Zuko is such a mess - this poor guy - but I am honestly not surprised that his default approach is to do everything himself in some kind of twisted centralised power system, both because he can't trust anybody and because Ozai probably did a very similar thing in terms of making sure he had all the cards and all the power - it could well have been something he'd taught Zuko. I'm such a huge fan of gregariously competent Sokka too!! Zuko is so obviously, clearly lost without him and it's so charming to see their interactions both in a platonic sense and in a shaping-up-to-be-pining sense. Your OCs are super and <333 my heart for Mai, I'm loving her so much in this. I'm so thrilled to see the Mai/Zuko really leaned into as well as elements of what will become Sokka/Zuko - it's going to be very exciting to see this play out. Mai's so wonderful in this - perfectly IC, she cares (a lot!) but continues not to let on. I love that she's been hiding things from Zuko, too - it sets up a nice could-be-betrayal element, but also from her POV it's the right thing to do (Zuko's already overstretched as it is!). Easily one of the best Zukka fics I've read in the past month.

      Thank you! I'm so glad to hear you're enjoying Mai—it was important to me that she was a very full and real presence in Zuko's life, as I'm very fond of her character but she tends to get left to the side in Zukka-centric works.
