    hmm, it seems like no one had commented on this so i'm going to offer my comment here XD The 3 songs in mdzs are actually quite distinct and different.

    Cleansing : the song was used to clean resentful energy that evaded the body or the core of a cultivator. Basically, just like the song's name, where resentful energy were like dust and grimes attached to the body, this song was used to wash off those dust from cultivator.

    Song of Clarity : it's also honestly work like what the name implied, clarity. It was used to guide a person whose mind was "muddled" into a clear-mind state. The difference between this song from cleansing is, this song is not used to erase resentful energy, it was used to clear the mind or consciousness, not a resentful energy. In simple term, this song used to treat a "mental" patient who lost their mind, in modern times it worked like an injection of antipsychotic to a mental patient in hospital.
    This song was used to treat a patient who are in the verge of Qi Deviation like NMJ. Qi Deviation itself to put it simply was the state of someone who lost their mind or go crazy because of the disarray of their own Qi or their spiritual energy, that's not something caused by resentful energy, but their own Qi.

    so, cleansing basically was used to erase resentful energy from attaching itself to a human, while song of clarity was used to treat the disarray of spiritual energy in human.

    while Rest is extremely different from those 2.
    Rest is not something used to human.
    Rest is a song used to subdue a corpse or demonic entity.
    It was used either to guide them to reincarnation circle or just subduing their agitation.

     

    so, what kind of gusulan songs used to treat WWX whose mind muddled by the corruption of Resentful energy?
    there are no songs....
    Since the case of demonic cultivation is a taboo in itself, there are no cure for it, at least not in the open knowledge of gusulan. And the resentful energy in WWX is not something that "attached" at him and can be cleaned off. The resentful energy in WWX already invaded far into him, it was more like a blood already spread further in every vessels and encased the whole being of WWX.

      this is cool. this is fanon after all but would cleansing be the right song to use for whatever wei ying had in this story? I'm curious

        I also have no idea about the Untamed songs but like the author said they probably work the same way since Lan Wangji used Qing Xin Yin on Wei Wuxian after he fainted in Nightless City

      thank you so much for the clarification efu! I'll leave this fic as is but this is good to know for future ones. The world of MDZS just has so much media that I can't help but get them mixed up sometimes lol it's all a mush now
