  1. Can I just compliment your writing style? Let's just appreciate how you've created such a plausible scenario with our favorite sneaky light-bearer. The way the dialogue flows so smoothly is amazing!

    Side note: Do you think the long lifespans of High Rankers in the tower contribute to the relative stagnation of the Tower's politics? I mean, it's been thousands of years, but it's still a monarchy with a loosely connected feudal system causing chaos just beneath it. In our world, we'd moved on from feudal systems through constitutional monarchies all the way into modern democracies by that point.

    Also? If Albrecht is implying what we all think he's implying...
    (Allow me to write a short dialogue of what I think the situation will turn out as):

    Albrecht: Well aren't you pretty?
    Khun: So you have chosen Death.

    1. Omg thank-you, I'm really glad you like my writing style! I feel like it changes a lot and I'm pretty wordy so I've been trying to keep it at least relatively consistent and readable, we'll see how long I can keep it up for. ^^;

      This sounds like an academic essay in the making, and I love it. If I'm understanding correctly, then I'd say yes, I really do feel like the long lifespans of High Rankers contribute to keeping the Tower in a sort of feudal state. I imagine it's especially bad considering there is not just a difference in political power between the highest-ranked and lowest-ranked individuals, but an a difference in physical power as well? Like even though they seem somewhat restricted to their own areas, High Rankers and "normal" (not Regular or Ranker) people both live in the same tower. Imagine being one of those normal people who knows that their king/leader/oppressor is THAT strong and also functionally immortal and has always been there for as long as you or your parents or grandparents can remember. I doubt most people would consider their society ripe for revolution with those odds.

      I can't remember specifically but I think when White was introduced someone might have mentioned something about how he'd set himself up as a god in the outer tower for a time? I might be wrong, but that's sort of the inspiration I was going off of.

      ... Yeah that is a pretty strong hypothesis lol.

      Sorry about the long reply, but thank you for the comment! I hope you enjoy the rest of the story! :D

      1. Yeah, Tower politics is always interesting to speculate about. (If it isn't already obvious, I love world building.) The Tower is really an excellent example of the principle 'might makes right', except with the addition of immortality things stagnate for way longer than they ought to.

        I remember that in the webtoon Jinsung Ha once said that High Rankers live long and have tremendous power, but their minds get tired and lose the capacity to change.

        About that mini-dialogue: I've seen other people use this format in their comments, and I thought I might try it out. Also, it's just plain fun to read.

        I hadn't realized that I sounded so sophisticated! Pleasantly surprised!

        Don't worry, I don't sound nearly as good in real life. I'm one of those people who can write entire speeches but can never actually say it in real life. Truly, public speaking is the bane of my existence. ^^' ;-)

        P.S. Don't mind the long responses! If I did mind, that'd be pretty hypocritical of me, wouldn't it?

        1. Yeah, the strong do have a massive advantage over normal people in the Tower, to the point where it just seems utterly unfair. I imagine if you're a High Ranker in the Tower and nobody is strong enough to equal you then after a certain point maybe normal humans start seeming more like bugs to you than anything else. This is definitely the kind of energy I think the warlords of this story are channelling.

          (Also I totally get it, I tend to sound a lot more formal in writing too. ^^ )
