"Aang’s face hardens. “If the council has an issue, they can take it up with me. And wouldn’t her future husband prefer a wife who isn’t sick?” The quiet but steely determination in the Avatar’s posture, Azula knows, is not entirely for her benefit. He’s witnessed his share of less than pristine dealings in the imperial court since the war ended." Aang has grown up. And he's obviously seen a lot. He is not naive, but nor is he seemed accepting of tainted politics. I love the allusion to past experiences here.
"Every so often he blinks, as though trying to clear a mental image, and Azula has the unpleasant realization that he isn’t the only one who’s grown to resemble a parent." Love this.
Aang is my favorite character, so I am very interested to learn more about his history with Azula, and of course, where their future will wind.
Your writing style is exactly what I crave! So many beautiful details, most of which leave me asking questions or alluding to some deeper history or complicated relationship. Your writing leaves me basking in the rich culture and context you paint. Well done!
Aang is my favorite character too, and even though this is an Azula-centric fic I've tried to weave his presence and influence throughout. And there's a few azulaang scenes I'm very excited to share. Thank you so much for commenting!
