He could very easily picture himself with her, content with her, happy with her…settled with her.

And at last we have happiness! The dance was lovely. (Why does no one dance anymore? It's so sexy!) The button was sweet. The kiss was even sexier than the dancing. And the thing about Sherlock's mom made me laugh again. :D
I love her to bits but I also kind of wish John's mom would butt out. Oh god, Emma, take a breath.
You know what I love about all this? Did I mention it on the meme? I love Sherlock. I love that he has active emotions and a great sense of humor and when he's watching John you not only see that boundless curiosity and analysis but also a sense that he's laughing on the inside. I love that he's a complete person in your story, when so many other people write him as emotionally eviscerated (and I really can't buy that he is, not when he stares at John with the best "WTF roomie" expression over the chip-and-pin incident). Your Sherlock is ridiculous and impossible and outrageous and domineering and ruthless and happy and aware of himself. He rings true to me.
And John is snugglable. Go snuggle him, Sherlock. His mother has traumatized him. :D
