"He laughs louder. He smiles freely.
It’s… well. It’s altogether lovely, actually. And Arthur has a hard time keeping mixed feelings about anything that makes Merlin look like that for very long."
This is already off to a great start. :D
I really love the idea that Arthur's impulse to seek out magic to save his father forced him to reckon with his beliefs. That he would have chosen not to act on it, both because of his father's values and the hypocrisy, is the embodiment of integrity. And that would cause him to seriously reconsider his father's teachings.
I am completely charmed by the idea that Arthur would catch Merlin doing magic, and assume he simply decided to learn it once it was legalized. X'D
And the banter! A delight.
“It’s like… when it flows through you, everything at once is possible. Like you’re connected inseparably to the earth, to every life. Like a single wave of your hand could alter fate.”
...
“You feel that way when you heat my bath, do you?” he says instead.
Merlin’s smile is a flash of white teeth. “Sometimes.”
Thank you!! I enjoyed playing with what Arthur’s thought process might have been without Agravaine around, and I LOVE writing their banter/ glad you enjoyed! Thanks for reading!!
