Ooh, this is absolutely beautiful... Your Usopp has such a thoughtful tone, oh my... I think I'm teetering on the brink of an immediate re-read.
Your "green wall of churning brine" conjures such a powerful image; I can practically feel it slapping the ship. And the next bit about the drying seaweed, loved your subtlety.
My favorite bit is, "Zoro’s hands press flat against the wood of the dining table when Sanji passes too close behind him. Sanji grows still when the swordsman enters the galley." And oooh, monsters who use violence as conversation! You're painting so vividly and I'm in love with the image.
The gentle intimacy of, "...and every time his fingers brush the inside of the wrist, his movements slow, cautiously, wonderingly. Zoro’s head is bowed while they work on him, but he leans towards the lightly moving fingers ever so slightly," is wonderful. Again, I can picture it so clearly through Usopp’s eyes.
Absolutely loved it (yes, I saw the increased dosing from salt-dust to salt-crust); thank you so much for writing and sharing! 🥰
Awww, thanks so much! Careful, you're making this procrastination fic seem totally worth it and encouraging more skiving off work. ;)
I'm super chuffed you enjoyed the descriptions and little moments! It's a short piece, but I tried to sprinkle them in where I could. And I'm so glad you liked the seaweed bit! I'm not sure why it tickles my fancy so much, but it was a good excuse to increase that dose from salt-dusted to crusted. Heh heh heh. And yay for gentle intimacy! They're not great at it at this stage, but they're learning (and that's the fun bit, eh?). :)
Really appreciate you stopping by to comment! It was something of a test piece, and it's especially lovely to hear it turned out all right. <3
