\o/.... Yes!! your back, seriously the most realistic lily and James survive fic ever ... I've read some of the ones were harry is abandoned by his parents and they never really made any sense at all, they literally died in Canon for there son, why would they abandon him on some old farts say so ? ... Anyway as always love your awesomeness and so hoping for more Epic fanfiction ! :)
I think the better question to ask would be why do fanfic writers love bashing Lily so much? I can vaguely understand James because of what was revealed in the 5th book, but Remus and Sirius made it clear that he GREW out of that behavior by 7th year.
And we trust them why? Sirius STILL calls Snape "Snivellus"! But I agree that this is the most realistic for Lily. After all, since she died to protect her son's, unless someone cast a spell on her she'd keep that love. A mother's love is basically unconditional (unless, of course, that mother is mentally unable to love, insane, or a psycopath/sociopath, none of which Lily is).
Or unless that woman is a monster. So many cliches in the hp fandom that I don't understand. Like why writers write the Order as a bunch of people that refuse to kill under any circumstances.
In fact, the only time that I recall Harry being reprimanded by someone in the Order, it was because HE refused to kill at the cost if blowing his cover in the 7th book when they pulled the 7 Potters trick. Lupin pointed out that they were at war and that they really couldn't afford "being polite" or however it was phrased.
greensword, let me stop you right at "in the seventh book." What is different in book 7 from books 1 through 6? Ah, right, the Death Eaters are now in control of the ministry and with the Order no longer having an allied government, they no longer have any means to hold more than a couple downed enemies. The Order of the Phoenix has very different roles in the first and second blood wars. In the first war, they were a civilian vigilante group and had to act as a net positive for the community and as civilians, making stunning then capturing death eaters and turning them over to the aurors the best way. In the second blood war however, until book seven, the ones that appear to have the most influence over the Order's actions are Dumbledore, Molly, and Moody, and of those three, Dumbledore is forgiving far past a fault, Molly is an overprotective housewife, and Moody is a paranoid former auror.
The death eaters aren't in control of the ministry at that point. They're out of control and getting close to taking over, and they were after infiltrating too.

I totally agree with you on the mother part. Every mother have instincs to care for their own children, they might not be good parents, but i would imagine most mothers would love their children no matter what. Except of course in the situation your talking about. I actually know a family where the mother got what is called birth depression, which essentialy boils down to the fact that she hated her son and would have nothing to do with him. She wasn't abusive in the physical term just really neglectful and would rather have him stay with the grandmother, who loved him, not an abusive relative. Their second child on the other hand she adored. But still would much rather read a story with good parents
Sirius was in Azkaban for 12 YEARS! With dementors sucking all of his happy memories and getting barley any food. He is going to be a little bonkers and unreliable, but Remus is.
The fandom seems to think that she's too 'perfect'. And you know, in that way, Harry and Hermione should be bashed that much. They seem too large for life.
The most realistic bashing fic I've seen for Lily was in it she didn't really care for James as a person but as a way to climb the social ladder. Sounds harsh but it explained why she dropped her childhood friend and soon after started dating one of his worst bullies. In that fic Dumbledore has her take a questionable potion every full moon while pregnant to increase the baby's core and she ends up giving birth to twins the younger one being born as the 7th month dies at 11:59pm. The potion is responsible for the loss of her family magic (squib line of Morgan Le Fay) which she felt as Harry was born. Added in that Harry had to stay at the hospital for complications with his core she never connected with him really. She it was easy for her to leave him with the Dursleys after they were attacked. I've also seen a few where they thought he became a squib because of the attack and did as the wizarding world does and left him on the muggle side.
