Thank you so much! I tried to warn for as many things as possible so that people would know how much pain there was (because I understand that this is not a lot of people's thing) but I am impressed that you still wanted to read it and managed to skip those parts and I hope you're okay with what there was. Chapter 3, yeah, that was the recovery chapter -- the "comfort" of hurt/comfort, if you will. It ended up being a lot longer than I thought it would be -- there was so much to get through. I am really glad you liked Steve and his stubbornness; I think this is the most Steve I've ever really written in one go so I've basically been in his head for the past two months working through his problems and how he just isn't going to give up. Which I think is one of his best and worst characteristics, but I tried to make it one of his best here, because he doesn't give up on Tony.
I am glad you liked the Carol parts too. She's always been one of my favorite Avengers, and I was very happy to get to feature her here. Originally I was going to cut the v3 plot off before the Squadron Supreme stuff, but then I realized that, hey, there was more mind control there and I could use it for foreshadowing of Tony's situation -- but then if I mentioned the Squadron Supreme that's when Carol's drinking problems start becoming apparent to the team, and then I'd have to run through the Live Kree or Die arc (where she gets kicked off the team), and at that point if I wanted anything approaching a reasonable story arc for my story she'd have to get sober by the end so I had to skip up to the part where she drop-kicked Tony through an airplane (which I adapted a little) and reevaluated her life choices.
And yay for buying v3! I hadn't actually read much v3 before writing this, but the artist asked if I could set the story then, so this was my excuse to read it all, and aside from a couple of plot developments I hate (Cap being anti-affirmative action and announcing angrily that he'd save the world with white Avengers) I really, really liked the Avengers v3 run. (Plus, the post-Busiek part of the run also gives us Red Zone, which, yesssss.)
