I work 4 12s regularly (sob!) and a new kind of fun: since covid ive thrown down with a few 25hr shifts. (you get a nap at 12 hours but youre still on call if youre needed). I had to get a doctors note that said they can only swap my shift every 2 weeks because my internal clock was so screwed up from doing a different shift every single day (or night) i couldnt sleep even when i was off work. If anyone reading this has their local nurses on strike, please support them. Those opposing parties will amplify paycheck items on union requests to try and make the nurses look greedy, but there's always concerns like these that get pushed to the background because they arent as glamorous or something. You all dont want us treating you in the ER if we're dead on our feet.
As much as I miss being at the bedside, reading stuff like that ... well, if my fibro hadn't already dragged me away, that would almost certainly end up doing the job.
Yeah, they always try to make it about the money, when that is generally the least concern. It's safety, which they are so willing to sacrifice, as long as they can make nurses their scapegoats in the process.
