    (if you'd happen to be interested in another bit of dramatic irony, a comment by The Light's Refrain on chapter 2 spells it out using names that should be recognizable from the fic. it's not really a spoiler since it was intended to be fairly clear to anyone who comes into the story knowing the canon, but it's not necessary information, either.)

    this story is about reasonable, well-prepared characters making only good decisions, which includes Duskmon's boss, who certainly didn't accidentally turn his strongest minion into someone who sees nothing remarkable about abandoning an assignment to go collaborate with the enemy. turns out brainwashing is more of an art form than a science.

    thank you for the comments! especially considering this is a fic whose canon you don't follow, it never really stops being a shock to hear people say that.
