Comment on Casts Shadows

  1. Not a dumb question, because it's a hard question to answer and requires a lot of thought. I do think it replaces the whole moment of cheating bit in Lovers Walk, because Xander and Willow have already come to the conclusion that they're not actually interested in each other without having to cheat to figure that out, so that wouldn't be a factor forcing Cordy to move. Honestly, with their new secret society I would not be surprised (especially with how she's behaved in this story) that Cordy just takes over administration of Yatagarasu (and, lol, this would be hilarious and totally in character, I could see her declaring herself as the Herald of Yatagarasu, which might be an ironic parallel to canon...both of them).
I'm...not sure what happens to Tara, but I don't think they'd leave her on her own given her family. I do suspect she gets to live.
Jonathan (and probably Andrew) were probably among the people that Decisive Duchess Buffy roped into the whole 'protecting Sunnydale' thing during Halloween, and I don't think they'd stop. Warren will probably try his thing, but actually having a whole group working together to stop this stuff (and more friendly demons) will have a huge impact on things going forward. Andrew might turn out to be a 'second Summoner', though which of the families' names they'd give him is up in the air since they're redefining what the Kuzunoha do for this world.
Actually, giving a lot of these characters purpose is exactly what they're looking for; Cordy and Jonathan and probably Andrew and definitely Xander (and...huh, a lot of people on the show actually) were all looking for a purpose and to feel like they mattered, so giving them one makes a huge difference for their personal stories, which then impacts the bigger plots.
(Actually, yeah, this would be one of the AUs I've written where Xander actually dating Oz would make sense, huh. Given what he's realized about his type in this story parallel to Willow's realizations.)
And no worries on that front; thank you so much for thinking about this story and commenting the questions, because it means I've written something (again, to go with that theme above) that matters. I reread my last reply shortly after I made it and was a little worried about whether I'd been too intense but wasn't sure whether to edit it or not. Normally I'm much better about speculating about what happens after the story even if I'm not sure if I'll write it but the last couple weeks I've been having issues keeping up with real life stuff, and I think that bled into my comments slightly; I apologize. Hopefully I'm not going overboard in the opposite direction this time lol
Thank you! I occurred to me that Ethan and Giles both knew the story of the Devil Summoners and the Yatagarasu, even if both of them thought it was just a story, so presumably others know about it too. Which makes it a perfect secret society to fake because 'they've actually been hiding in the shadows for a while' isn't something that the Watchers can rule out, as much as they'd want to do so.
Yeah, Giles will probably join the fake-now-real society too (a little reluctantly, as he's not too excited about working with Ethan again...but keeping Ethan busy with actually doing something good is good, and he can't stick around with the Watchers in good conscience either). He'll probably complain about it but they pretty much all know he only about half means it.
