Sol Regem and his followers are something I based on the real world where people can't let go of some made up natural order and sense of identity. They all were brought up under the idea that they were superior to humans so getting unceremoniously beaten was a huge blow to their egos.
so If humans are inferior then what does that make then who got beaten by humans? The icing on the cake is the north western regions preferring to work with humans. They are so heavily invested in these beliefs that their very identities and sense of self worth are tied to it. Admitting that this belief is the psychological equivalent of cutting off a limb which is why you also get angry, violent irrational reactions from these people.
The idea for this part of the story came to me when reading a report on sexism in south Korea. Sexist men are against women having equal standing because from their perspective: woman aren't being raised to equal status. Rather they view it as them being lowered to the inferior status of women.
