I'm obsessed with Dean putting on the annoying middle management act. We were robbed of this on canon!
This was an absolutely perfect case fic - a clever setup and mystery, plus the OCs (especially Miriam) all felt fully formed and so compelling. And monsters preying on the homeless makes a depressing amount of sense.
Thank you! Yeah thats a little pet theory of mine that I work in where I can, alongside the idea that there are probably way more "good" monsters and like, harmless Supernatural phenomenon than Sam and Dean are aware of because their mode of investigation is biased towards publicized deaths, so aside from instances of random chance, they are going to seek out encounters with the supernatural that are 1) violent and 2) sloppy. Theres even canon evidence for it, iirc Donna's neice(?) gets taken by monster traffickers who are organized and sell organs on to monsters who need them to live, and the only reason they get caught is because they accidentally took someone with a connection to a hunter. In my ideal supernatural that episode would have happened early in season twelve, and instead of being brought in by Donna, the BMoL would have turned Sam and Dean onto the case, as a way of showing them how valuable they are. See? There are organized, intelligent monsters out there that you could never find without us, this is why our methods are necessary and complete eradication is the only way. And then by getting suckered in and going along with this, Sam and Dean eventually realize there is another large group of monsters they missed because of the disorganized way they approach hunting: the ones who aren't hurting anyone, and the BMoL do not differentiate. Haha anyway thats another topic. Thank you I'm glad the case worked well! I wasnt thinking when I planned out this fic how hard it would be to come up with so many mini mysteries to get through. By the end of the third case it was starting to wear on me a little :P that may be why the investigations get a little looser in later chapters.
