Comment on The TV Tropes Character Crossover War

  1. Most importantly, how did this idea come to your mind?

    1. It’s a funny story. Before all this happened, we all used to make self demonstrating pages on TV Tropes — basically characters reading the tropes associated with them in their own voice and personality. A while back, I made such a page for Plankton, who would insult some of the other pages with derogatory nicknames. One of them was Beast Megatron, whose alternate mode was a purple T-Rex not unlike Barney (Obvious? Yes. Hilarious, oh yeeeees.) A few weeks later, a lot of the other pages started doing the same and calling him Barney. So just on a whim, having written Megatron’s page years ago, I edited it with a joke never to let Barney have a page, lest he tear him apart limb from limb and turn his home into a base of Predacon operations.

Less than a day later, Wyvu made Barney a page, with Megatron making good on that threat.

From there, every other page soon started to get in on the action, with many a jokes about these dark and edgy villains trying to destroy preschool characters or otherwise making fun of Barney. I was working on Hades when this happened, so as a joke, I had him “bring back” Barney as his minion. Meanwhile, Wyvu, as a big fan of Makima, wrote something on Elmo’s page where she tried to wipe out Sesame Street, only to be stopped by Denji.

From there, it lead to Vader trying to stage his own takeover. And the website would never be the same.

            1. Looks like you have a lot of them from what I saw. Which ones in particular did you want to have on TV Tropes?
