        Yeah, it was a Disney+ series turned into a movie at the last minute and you can really tell - the story is really just moving Moana from setpiece to setpiece, for better and for worse

        Still, the setpieces are good imo and Moana's journey is cool

        And there's a hot bat goddess who keeps on calling Moana babe. Who can object to hot flirty bat goddesses?

          Ah, that explains it -- most complaints I've heard were about pacing and the plot not feeling as flesh-out, so that would be why if it was originally meant as a series.

          Oh absolutely, a hot bat goddess sounds right up my writing alley! I love mythology, and paying homage to it in fun ways like that is something I enjoy.

            Yeah iirc the plans for it to be a movie instead were only made early last year, so it was a pretty last-minute pivot lol
