Ooof. Your banter is great, as always, flavored differently through these characters. It's sweet how Andy is so honest and gentle with everyone but himself on this show, even when they're being actively hostile to him -- I could see it just from rewatching one episode, that Andy would make Harold into a friend despite how Harold felt about it lol. And Harold's loneliness here is so palpable it might as well be a third person in the room. I love how this is just touch, just acknowledging another person's body so they can feel real. Sometimes that's more intimate than a sexual experience tbh, and I feel like you captured that here.
Also, ok, this might be weird but ah, this show was on when I was in high school and "homosexual" is the word everyone used then and it does a great job of grounding this in that time instead of our time now when I would guess most doctors under 70 would use the word "gay." Maybe it's something they say on the show too lol and I just haven't gotten to that point but I wanted to say that. Every time I read it, it's like being back in 2005 again. So kudos on that.
Thank you so very much for reading (and rewatching an episode to prep for reading!!) You are spot on with your characterization of Andy and Harold. Yes!! This was so very much about touch, and the intimacy in something not sexual. You've gotten what I was going for. :)
That is not weird!!! I thought about that word A LOT and came to exactly the conclusion you did, for exactly the same reason. I can't recall if they say homosexual on the show - I think they might say gay, when they address it at all - but I really wanted to bring that 2005 feeling (for better or for worse, honestly), so I'm so glad it worked for you.
tbh I might keep watching it but I have a few other things on my roster lol. It's kind of fun to watch a show set during the exact timeframe one was a teenager and teeter between the adult and child characters lol.
See, I figured you had thought that through, and you were correct! Brilliant.
