Comment on Consequential, or The Modern Sisyphus

  1. thanks! deaton always seems to know a little about a lot of things, so i'm pretty sure he's going to know a few things about human psychology, and subsequently how the dread doctors' abuse of theo has influenced theo's emotional well-being. so his opinions of theo are probably going to be more nuanced than "he killed ppl" (of course theo killed people! from what we saw of the DDs, they killed ppl left and right, so it's no wonder theo picked up on that and unconsciously mimicked that. there was no way theo could escape the DDs once he was in their grasp, i mean, those fuckers could teleport and use weird goggle things to track supernaturals... so i don't blame theo for being a product of his environment. it was kill or be killed. that's something a ton of fans don't fully understand the gravity of).

eneiryu, in my opinion, should get their stuff published, it's just that good. if you're looking for really long fics (20,000+ words), she's the one to go to. the specific fic i referenced in my comment above is entitled "hanging abstract art in pitch black rooms".

    1. Yes, absolute yes to everything you said! Deaton had such a good sensing for Scott's character right from the start, he even knew the extent of Gerard's depravity, I believe he would have had a very nuanced perspective of all the different characters. And I think too many forget that Theo was with the DDs since he was NINE! That's such an important age for children to figure out their identity, their moral compass, how they see the world. I do find it somewhat hard to believe that Theo was completely willing in killing Tara at that age; I think he *thinks* he was willing but the DDs definitely manipulated him, maybe from even earlier than the age of 9. I'm attempting to explore that with the story as the chapters develop, but am hoping to make it a balanced take on accountability versus external manipulation.

Oh I just took a quick peek at eneiryu's shorter works and wow I might be falling straight into a rabbit hole I don't want to come out of. Thanks so much for sharing, I can't wait to dive in :)
