I've replied to a few other comments with similar complaints, but in general, I'm trying to find the most interesting balance between gameplay and lore. As I've said, what I love most about Dark-Souls protagonists is that, while they can kill titans, they themselves are very small and weak. That their tenacity and determination, not their physical strength, is what allows them to whittle down even dragons and Gods for the kill. I've been trying to find what I think is s comfortable, and interesting, middle-ground for The Ashen One's strength. For example, certain game mechanics, such as bleed buildup, work differently. Instead, he simply loses blood and experiences the same effects in the same way that just about anyone would. However, curse buildup does work the same way as in the games, namely because curses, while similar in a lot of ways, work differently between the DS world and the Rezero world.
I've said before that I want to be lore-accurate, but I mainly meant in terms of things like character names and possible equipment, stuff like that. As for power-scaling, I'm intentionally shifting the board quite a bit. Frankly, the story wouldn't be very interesting at all if The Ashen One couldn't conceivably lose to anyone. The way I have it now, he could, indeed, conceivably lose to just about anyone, especially if taken by surprise, but in a turn, he could also conceivably win against just about anyone, given he put the time and effort into trying. Just like in Dark-Souls, and just like Subaru.
Also, also, I don't want to invite any power-scaling arguments, but star level? Yeah, I know Gwyn was represented by the sun, but I don't see being able to defeat him in a duel as proof that you could destroy a star... And any argument about holding power equal to the First Flame holds little water for me considering the whole plot of the series culminates in said Flame being too weak to keep burning. Just my two cents. All that being said, though, thank you for commenting! With this in mind, I hope you can better enjoy the story, but if not, then I'm sorry.
the scaling comes from the soul of cinder being a amalgamation of all past protags
but if you don't Agree with that its fine. what im not saying is that he can blow up a star, he cant he can just hurt things and tank damage from ones who can. and like i don't even care that he's not lore acuate but he shouldn't be getting pressed by random nobody thugs. like at least make on par with the one of the knights if less skilled in fighting humans.
