THIS PREMISE IS SO DEVIOUS AND JUICY I LOVE IT. like the whole time of Katara and Sokka being there I'm like "please let this be part of a plan to rescue Zuko/overthrow Ozai plsplspls" and then once it was it was like having cold water dumped on me because even if this is their plan even if could hypothetically work, Zuko is far far too hurt and broken to ever cooperate. like I feel for him so much, like surely Katara or Toph or Sokka or Iroh or *someone* would have tried to save him, that's what I'd cling to in his position while in prison too, and for two whole years to have NO ONE come no sign even if an attempt would absolutely completely shatter and devastate me beyond repair too (though I'm sure Ozai would have hid any evidence of people trying to save him, but also if they had tried to save him Ozai probably would t even be letting them make a diplomatic visit like this now? AUGH mysteries abound!!) I'm so excited to see how this plays out. i have a feeling Katara and Sokka are in for a nasty surprise when they finally get a chance to talk to Zuko alone and loop him in on the plan.
There definitely was a possible direction where Zuko ended up fighting *against* Katara and was stuck in a marriage with her, and she was trying to help him and he was just not having it, and my guess is that it would've been an interesting combination of sexual combustion and her just not giving up on him that would eventually wear him down. It would've been a different, but very fun option!
