Yeahhh, Terzo's going through it for lack of a better word. You're right on the money, and some of your analysis I hadn't even consciously thought out while writing this, and I'm reflecting now, and it makes total sense. There are several factors contributing to Terzo's impulsiveness and forgetfulness at this moment. The trauma is a big one. Terzo is someone who had put a lot of his worth into being Papa, kinda like how we're seeing with Frater Imperator in current events. And with this specific chapter, Terzo's mom is someone Terzo had to let go for a longggg time. Now he has the opportunity to reconnect?? That's his MAMMA. I also think they kinda had a trauma bond when Nihil left her, because being a single mom in New York has gotta be rough, enough to where Terzo's mom later gave Nihil her only son, but I'll be diving into that next chapter possibly.
But yeah. Terzo's so used to ghouls that he completely forgot his mom has never seen an unglamoured ghoul lol. She's seen a ritual before, but only the masks and costumes. Omega knows to hide himself behind a mask or glamour himself to look human because it's his entire reputation on the line, but Terzo gets so wrapped up in his own endeavors that he forgets to open his perspective up sometimes until it's too late.
And with the cats, it is him trying to find some normalcy. Like what's more domestic than having a cat? Cats are therapeutic. He wants things to feel normal. He wants to be normal, even if he's forcing it (Sorry Omega). I think Terzo feels like he's pushed Omega away and caused this rift between them because he wasn't mentally well, so he wants to get better and repair that trust between them. His previous ambition, perfectionism, has just wrapped into this desperation to be okay with what's happened and move on.

Ohhhh!! I’m very excited!!! Yes, that’s what I figured happened in a way. It’s cannon Terzo’s mom is nice and that she went to one of his concerts. Like there’s obviously still a connection there. Terzo was probably given to the clergy at an early age and not willingly. :( Maybe it was easier for Primo and Secondo on that level because they probably weren’t as close to their mother as Terzo was to his. There’s still a bond. And I know how Italian moms are and how close they are with their children.
He’s just traumatized all around. The forgetfulness and airhead energy is totally valid. I’m surprised he got out of bed at all at this point! (I would still be sulking)
And that makes sense with him trying to have some normalcy. His life has been hectic for the most part! Get cats! Hang up a picture of flowers! Have a beach themed bathroom! lol (Rip Omega though with those allergies!)

Oh no worries at all, we love rambling here! You get the picture definitely. And yeah, I'd imagine Primo and Secondo did not have a close relationship- if any- with their mothers. I like to headcanon Primo never met his mother and he was solely raised by Nihil, which is why he took to being a guidance figure for kids at the ministry. I think it's healing for him and he loves their blunt humor. And Secondo I haven't thought too much about? But judging by his stern character I imagine his mother was high-strung and probably wasn't very kind to him. I don't think Secondo was a wanted child, at least on the mother's part.
Anyways, there's my quick headcanons on the brothers. :-)
