  1. Wow, this was really emotionally powerful. I think living the way Luthen does would be deeply exhausting, and his desire here for something easy—to just go with the empire—meeting the fact that he cannot look away or close his eyes to the evil all around him, and then his feeling that it’s a “shame” he needs a reminder at all, was beautiful. I love that kind of complexity; Luthen feels very human to me, which is the best thing a character can be imo. Thank you for sharing this beautiful piece!!

      Thanks for the thoughtful comments! For the leader of the proto-Rebellion, Luthen is a complex character--and not entirely sympathetic. He's a well-intentioned extremist overall, and willing to pay any cost and ask others to do the same. I'm glad he seemed sympathetic here in particular though, as he definitely has the right read on the Star Wars Empire!
