Comment on The Blood of Maegor

  1. If there is one thing I love it's Alicent time traveling and going scorched earth on her enemies. Why oh why could we not actually have an ambitious Alicent on the show? I do love her being descended from Maegor and therefore Visenya. And Vhagar, if I am not mistaken, has just become riderless. Laena is too young to claim her so perhaps we will have Daemon with Dark Sister, and Visenya's descendant as his wife and Vhagar claimed by her. A very strong start to an exciting premise.

    1. Yup, Ali going for that revenge shit and standing on business! We deserved on the show book Alicent, they truly ruined ALL the characters 😔

The whole Maegor thing...was so spontaneous because at first I had another idea then I was like, nope, let's just do the unthinkable because there is so much secrecy and taboo going around Maegor and Visenya, it's worth mentioning that her being descendant from Maegor and being a Hightower? The Faith will sit in their chair and do NOTHING because... why would they go against their own kin? You know? I really wanted to write a mean character so there goes this, probably she won't be like Maegor but like a mean Alicent, playing Daemon like a fiddle. But Daemon will stay true to his character, don't worry.

Vhagar in 101 after Baelon's death is riderless and Laena is too young to claim her, idk if it was head canon but I knew something of Laena claiming Vhagar at 12 years old? Not on my watch, she will not, hence why there will be tensions with the Velaryons and lots of bad blood with them.

      Thank you for reading C🖤

      1. Well often spontaneous ideas are the best :-) I think it makes perfect sense that if Ceryse had a child late in her marriage, especially a girl, she would have kept her head down. If only 10 % of what is written about Tyanna of the Tower is true, that is not someone you want anywhere near your child. Rallying the country for Maegor's tiny dragonless daughter would have been impossible. And of course after Jaehaerys becomes king you don't want to hold up your rival claimant and say hello. And someone already mentioned the canonically fair hair of the Hightowers and adding to that we have a family that is sitting in a Tower made of black stone, strangely akin to the stone used in Volantis and the dragonroads. The Hightower is the highest tower in the known world, higher than the Wall, with a mysterious origin story. Also fuck you show for not showing us the Hightower once in two seasons. We have the same castles again and again until Westeros feels as extensive as a trailer park. We have 8 episodes of Corlys on the same ship but all we got of the Hightower is a throwaway line the beacon glows green when they call their banners.

Considering the connection between the Hightower, the Citadel and the Faith Alicent is definitely in an interesting position. And in GoT timeline the current Lord of the Hightower has been a hermit for 10 years and spends his time reading magical texts which he deems as more important than the War of the Five Kings. There is more to this family than we know.

In show canon Laena claims Vhagar when she is 15 so that is ample time for Alicent to get there first. Yeah fuck the Velaryons. It is my eternal gripe that Jaehaerys should have never let a dragonriding princess marry outside the family with her dragon having the potential to lay eggs for generations. I much prefer Laena over Rhaenyra but from the point of view of the Targaryen main line you don't want the last dragon of the Conquerors as the show pony of the Velaryons. I really hope that Daemon makes it clear to the Velaryons that they are owed shit at this point, let alone a dragon.

Have you given more thoughts to starting a Discord? Hokkaido_milk_pudding (who has a brilliant Daemon/Greek Goddess story and Harry Potter/HotD crossover inspired by Helen of Troy) has one and often there are lovely exchanges and shared ideas between her and us readers.

        1. Girl I am so embarrassed (more like tired tbh), because I swear, I always say I'll make time to make a discord. I will, I promise ((eventually)) *sighs*

Tyanna had me wanting to cast her out of Westeros, somewhere in Asshai in the shadow lands because that woman was beyond evil.

About the Hightowers, yes, if Jaehaerys confused Ali for Saera, yes, the Hightowers did have some Valyrian blood in them, in this case, Ali is descendant of Maegor so it makes even more sense. Also what is that about only 1 living daughter reches maturity? Ohh...spooky *blushes like a maid*

Honestly I don't even know what happened in season 2 because I refused to watch, I hated how much they butchered Daemon.

"Considering the connection between the Hightower, the Citadel and the Faith Alicent is definitely in an interesting position." The Faith will have a field day, because the memory of Maegor is still fresh, and Ali is part Hightower part the blood of the man that burtchered the Poor Fellows SO... the Faith is as confused as we all are.

You know, this is funny because the idea truly came to me out of nowhere, and funny thing is that it does make some sense, because you mean to tell me Maegor never got Cerise pregnant? That man fucked as if it were sports so, my headcanon is that one of his swimmers got more agitated and gave Ceryse a gift, but after she was disposed as Queen. The Hightowers are... truly something else.

Shit, so 15...WELL, I almost got it right *but by a difference of three years hehe*.

THIS RIGHT HERE: "It is my eternal gripe that Jaehaerys should have never let a dragonriding princess marry outside the family with her dragon having the potential to lay eggs for generations." This thing, will get so much heat from the Velaryons, and basically they will be a pain in the ass for the future king and queen.

"I really hope that Daemon makes it clear to the Velaryons that they are owed shit at this point, let alone a dragon." Exactly what will happen, much discussion will be between the two families, as the Velaryons will always act like the victims, but it will be worth shit, because the Targs will have the largest dragons so....

          1. There are so many cruel, brutal and disturbing characters in the asoiaf universe but Tyanna is definitely high up there. I am not sure what it is since we have other characters that have tortured or butchered others. I think what disturbs me most is her ability to feign closeness, friendship, perhaps even love.

Alys Holloway was rumored to also have been involved with her and she has no compunction whatsoever to bring her poisonous tea, maim her child in the womb, falsely accuse her and then torture her over days. There is such a senseless cruelty in her that goes way beyond wanting to rise to the top. For some reason, perhaps natural, perhaps it was a price that magic demanded she seemed incapable of having children herself.

Every king needs an heir, especially one who has been married for a long time and to different women, yet has not one child in the cradle. The calculating, though still cruel thing to do, would have been to let one his wives carry to term and then after the birth, when the mother is still fragile to poison her and then to raise the child herself. Of course that is still truly awful but I can understand that to a point. But poisoning every women that becomes pregnant reads to me as "if you are not having a child with me, you are not having one with anyone, no matter whether that harms your position or not."

Also what she did to Viserys. Again I understand that letting rival claimants, that might end up claiming a dragon at that, would be nearly impossible but instead of handling it quickly and discreet we have another torture orgy.

I reread the chapter and found it interesting how eager Jaehaerys is to push the match between Ali and Daemon. Of course there is a lot of baggage when it comes to being descended from Maegor but at the same time, Visenya was the senior wife, the one that bend the Vale and created the kingsguard. Also Otto seeing his worst nightmare come to life never gets old and I am looking forward to him, eventually thinking about the benefits of Alicent becoming queen, getting pushed out the office of the Hand.

It is funny because House Velaryon, along with House Dayne and House Hightower are definitely among my favourites when it comes to secondary Houses. I love stories in the GoT timeline where the Velaryons play a major role in the Targaryen restoration. I can respect their entrepreneurial spirit and the almost Gothic theme of lost glory, of rising too high and too fast only for all to come crashing down.

During the Dance era though I am beyond over Corlys' greed and hypocrisy. Of him trampling on the rights that Baela and Rhaena should have and his willingness to hand Driftmark first to Luke and then to Alyn before he ever would consider his own granddaughters inheriting.

            1. I'm re-reading f&b and tbh tyanna is just... something else. She acts like your bestie and the next moment bam... you are subjected to something that is out of this world. "There is such a senseless cruelty in her that goes way beyond wanting to rise to the top." Tyanna wanted to be the only Queen and the gods clocked her because she couldn't have a baby. I think people did not understand that Tyanna was more curel than Maegor and even more delusional.

No cause Otto, poor guy, of course as any man in a higher position, would strive to have an even higher one (*cue for music as the Velaryons enter with their shit ambition too*). There is much to uncover about the plot with Jae, because he has known some things for a while. "I can respect their entrepreneurial spirit and the almost Gothic theme of lost glory, of rising too high and too fast only for all to come crashing down." gotta love them and their need to strive beyond the much they already have, because when they fall, they fall from so high up.

I think that some things, in canon, are done out of plot armor, because there are some things that some characters would never do given their character and personality, then they do some senseless shit.

            1. Otto will dig up his own grave, say the burial rites, bury himself, then die peacefully. The man will want to be dead I tell you. Well about the dragons for the Velaryons it will be a very heated topic. She's the daughter of Lai and D, I just updated the tags.

I just thought rhaenyra might be daemon daughter with someone else u know cause I can't imagine alicent actually willingly naming her daughter Rhaenyra

                1. Otto: there's no way Daemon will like her
                  Daemon: *heart eyes immediately*

Well do you think Alicent would accept a bastard daughter? No, hey, who knows what her name shall be...

Currently writing the next chapter and all I can say is that Jaehaerys is tired as hell.
