The moment after all the other guests have left and it’s just Satin and all his friends around the fire was so wholesome, I loved picturing it in my head! It was probably nice for Jon too to have that moment where he’s not really being treated as a king but they’re all just sitting there like a group of friends chilling around the fire.
“Don’t you think so, Your Grace?” ohohohoho this moment!! I know Jon was SHOOK, even if he masked it well. Satin did well in reacting the way he did because as much as we love Ally it really was a step too far considering there were other people present. But I like that he was still so nice to Ally even while being firm with his words. The conversation they had when they were alone I think was one that they really needed to have and Satin is right, Ally should be a bit more careful about what she says when others are present 😬
Absolutely loved Satin’s conversation with Larence after he finds out about Satin’s past! Satin assumed he’d have a bad reaction and not want to work with him anymore, but it was the complete opposite, and I know that meant so much to Satin in a world where most people only see him as what he was. And the little moment where they were making alliances between their houses was really wholesome!
The final scene where they’re back in their rooms… 😈 I mean where do I even begin? Jon blatantly staring at him, which he’s done before but this time he doesn’t even try to hide it? Like Satin turns his head to look at him and Jon DOESN’T look away ohhhhh 🤭 I’d love to know what was going through his head that whole time, although I imagine maybe it was something along the lines of what Jon from In Search of Warmth was thinking when he was staring at Satin at the beginning of that fic hehe
“Well,” He said slowly. “Are you going to help me undress or are you just going to keep staring at me?”
Jon blinked once, twice, and then thrice. “W-what?” hehehehe 😈 Satin you definitely worded it that way on purpose! And Jon being like 0.o error 404 not found was so funny 😆

So, I suppose I can’t say if it’s different or not.” SATIN MY BABYYYY 😭😭 hopefully you will find out soon 🥲 but fr I loved this recurring theme of how “love is not a thing a whore gets to have”, culminating now with this beautiful vulnerable moment of Satin telling Jon he’s never been with anyone he truly wanted. I can only imagine how Jon felt hearing it and now knowing that he’ll be Satin’s “first”. My heart! 🥹❤️

A rough tug on his laces brought Satin stumbling half a step forward. He rather abruptly found himself nose to nose with Jon and the tight, pinched look on his long face. It made Satin need to bite his lip to hold in the laugh that threatened to burst out. “I said that’s enough, Satin.” Jon said slowly, his voice quiet and low and yet clear as day. HNNNGGGG oh yeah this moment here was delicious. Possessive Jon my beloved 🫠
“I don’t want to hear about you and other men.” WELL????? DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT THEN!!!!! 😭 Jon acting this possessive when he hasn’t even kissed him yet is CRAZYYYY!! But fr this was such a delicious line, maybe my favorite in this chapter. Satin is right, Jon really does give himself away massively with this. Getting all angry about “other men” (that don’t even exist mind you 😭), essentially saying that he sees Satin as “his” lol. The jealousy is jealousy-ing and we LOVE to see it! 🙂↕️

Also, when Satin said “Someone… sweet” I immediately thought of when he literally called Jon sweet last chapter omg Satin it’s not just Jon that is giving himself away with his words, you’re incredibly obvious too ! 😭
I adored the ending with Satin laughing and Jon blushing and getting all riled up. I’m so obsessed with this dynamic you’ve created of Satin lovingly teasing Jon, and Jon just always walking right into it and acting all bothered every time, but both of them knowing he secretly loves it 😭
Satin calling Jon “my love” in his thoughts is so precious to me, I always smile when I read it 🥹 can’t wait for when that accidentally slips out sometime… 😈 teehee

Thank you so much! I’m so happy you enjoyed this one! I had a blast writing Ally’s wedding and having some light, fun, character driven moments after a good chunk of angst and drama we’ve had for a little while! So, this was def a nice and needed breather!
I love writing Ally and I’m happy with how her character has come across so it was good write something nice like a wedding to a good guy for her! She’s getting her fairytale happy ending with a man who respects and honors her instead of the types of men she’s known her whole life! And for Satin, of course he’s going to pull out all the stops for his lil sister’s wedding! He’s got money now! He’s living the dream of Rich Friend who can spoil the people he loves! And at his position and new level of wealth, footing the bill for a commoner’s wedding was not even much for him. Even paying for her dress was pretty much nothing for him. He’s working on a whole new financial level! I looked into some of ASOIAF’s finances and economy stuff as best as I could find to figure out how much Satin was likely making, and found some interesting stuff hobbled together from a few sources n the books and a few of the semi-canon sources like the ASOIAF TTRPGs and wargames. The main thing I found that stood out to me was that a common worker would make approx a gold dragon a year. ONE gold dragon! But Satin is a Lord now and Lord-Steward of the King in the North so he’s making much more than that and is sitting at about 8 Dragons a month + some silver stags. And Jon has said that’s about 60% of what he should be making and has promised him backpay once winter is over and the wars won. So Satin should be making somewhere around 15 to 17 dragons a month. If Satin was a whore for about 7 years in Oldtown, he made about 7 dragons, maybe 8 worth of coin in the *entirety* of his career. He now makes that in a MONTH. He’s rolling in it. AND Jon thinks he’s being underpaid lol. So Satin had no issue busting out nearly a gold dragon for this wedding. So he spent what would have been NEARLY A YEAR’s salary in his old life on this wedding. He went all out. Ally is lucky she’s got a brother like that lol. (sorry for that little rant there. I spent WAY too long trying to do all that math for it not to come up lmao)
Satin walking down the aisle was such a sweet image in my brain I had to include it! He really was so proud of her. For being happy and finding a good man but also for leaving their old life behind even tho it must have been scary to leave behind the only thing she’d ever known!
IT IS ALSO SATIN!! 10000% Pretty much the whole of Ally and Cedren’s relationship is meant to mirror and parallel Satin and Jon’s relationship. You got the former Southron whore meeting the northern stoic man who won’t take advantage and treats them with respect, who learns of their past and still doesn’t try to touch, who wants to do the relationship right and honorably. And Ally even complains that Cedren made her wait and wait and wait, which Jon is very much doing! But Cedren only made Ally wait for like 4 months. Satin’s going on well over a year with a ways to go lmao. But yes! Satin gets to have a lot of those things ppl said he could never have too! A (former) whore CAN be loved back, can be welcome and safe and cared for! All those things Satin thought he could never have, he has with Jon, even if they don’t have a “full” relationship at the moment. Satin (and Ally) have both come so far!!
I think Jeyne is very slowly starting to come out of her shell! She’s got a new big brother who protects her and a new friend in Larence! It’s good for her to have someone her age too! And someone who respects her! With all the rumors and the way ppl talk down to her bc she was married to Ramsey, Larence hasn’t cared about those and it must be a huge relief for her. She also gets a new friend in Ally who immediately welcomes her and effectively calls her sister! Ally is just a bundle of warmth even Jeyne can’t resist! So it’s good she overcame her nervousness to attend and came to the party. Its a big step towards her healing, I think! And having Sansa back, too, will be another step in that direction! I’m excited for that!!
A reader had suggested blue winter rose oil as a gift from Jon and I was like 0.0 YES. So I had to do it! One thing I do love about Jon is that while he can come off as aloof or stoic, he is a romantic at heart (I always think of all the things he’d think he wanted to show and do with Ygritte in the books and they were always so SWEET like JON YOU ARE A SAP!!! And I have taken that for his feelings for Satin too!). So I have him a little bashful and trying to be all casual as if he isn’t gifting Satin a rather intimate or at least romantic-ish gift. Like with the rose in Flowers for the Night, I think he tries to make light of it like its no big deal even tho they BOTH know it is! And when Satin likes it, he is def super releived even if he doesn’t show it and then he just has to get Satin more of it. He’s so down bad

I’m imagining Jon going up to him all stoic with his King’s Face on and just giving him so coin and instructions to make the oil, not mentioning Satin at all and Malryk is just like -.- Of course, your Grace.... i can make it for you. Certainly, it's an offering for your aunt’s grave... surely. I think Jon has a decent amount of trust in Malryk (from his discretion with Jon’s episode in Tireless, and how Satin clearly trusts him and likes him) which is why I think jon asked him but also Jon is def on his fuck it we ball arch still.
GHOST NEEDED A FLOWER CROWN that was revealed to me like a vision from GRRM himself so of course I had to add that in and the wedding was the perfect place to do it! He’s such a sweet little pup to Satin!! He can’t say no to him even if it hurts his little wolfish pride! And Jon is like -.- that is a BEAST!! A symbol of HOUSE STARK and you put a *flower crown* on him??? How dare you?? (he says while also finding it so damn charming bc he ALSO cannot say no to Satin even if it hurts his pride a lil)
Aahhaha Ally says Drag Queen Satin for Queen in the North! Now is it feasible? No. But is it cute? Hell yes eheheeh! And oooooooh that’s some good angst! I like the idea! I’ll see if I can fit something like that in! There is some more “being Jon’s wife” mentions to come I will say. So we’ll see where things go lol
Satin really has come so far and risen so high! Like has anyone ever done it like him before?? Man is a lord now, steward to the king, he’s got it all! And a seat at Jon’s side at council! And he has a sister! And Jeyne really loves the arrangement. She cares a lot for Satin and vice versa and it has saved her from having to marry. She is so happy! So she is committing to the bit for sure!
Imagine you’re just at your wedding and the LEADER of your country just walks in and is like hi. Here’s some presents. Wild! And yes, Jon def doesn’t enjoy the supplication and genuflection he gets sometimes, but he knows its part of the job/role he has to play. But it does make him uncomfortable. And Satin knowing Jon was coming via Ghost was def a nod to the next part (The warg chapter) bc Ghost has magical knowledge that Jon is coming before he’s even entered the room bc of their connection. Jon also knows exactly where the wedding is without being told, because Ghost is there and he’s innately following the connection. Jon’s wedding gifts were one of those kinda funny things where they’re nothing to him but everything to Ally and Cedren. He probs didn’t have to spend any money at all. Just order a servant to do something but ti fully changed both Ally and Cedren’s lives by giving them a home! Ally really is lucky she’s in with Satin whose besties with the king lol. She gets perks for that for sure! And ahaha Jon did try to bail for the wedding immediately after giving his gifts but Ally insisted he stay so he made an event of it and talked to his people and listened to them. He really is a great ruler. He’s the People’s King (omg he’s princess Diana lmao)
I’m also a big fan of accents and all that! And the Welsh accent too! And I def missed in Game of Thrones there just being a vague Northern Accents (Sean Bean accent lmao) and then a cockney accent for poor people, and standard RP British for all other nobles in Westeros. Like.... it’s a massive continent with complex racial and ancestral histories. There should be ACCENTS on accents on accents! So I had to assign some accents and i knew the Reach had to be Welsh bc I love that accent and Satin should have a pretty singsong voice bc I say so! And they got to tease and play with each other a bit about it which is fun. And OF COURSE Jon is extremely perceptive to all things Satin. It really does show how much he is ALSO thinking about him and noticing things about him. We’re not in his POV but he really is thinking about Satin as much as Satin is about him!
Yeah, I really wanted a more intimate kind of after-party moment just with Satin’s new little family. Quieter, sweeter, where its calm and all relaxed. And yes I do think Jon really enjoyed that as well. He’s less The King and more Jon here, just sitting quietly listening to his friends. And it also lets Ally, Jeyne, and Larence see the softer side of him a bit, too. Where he isn’t all stoic and tense like usual. Which is nice. It is a funny group up tho if you think about it! You’ve got THE KING (an 18 year old once-dead guy who has fire in his veins bc of a prophecy he’s ignoring, a 19 year old former male whore turned lord-steward who def isn’t in a relationship with said king, a freaking DIREWOLF just chilling by the fire like a puppy, a 17 year old pregnant former whore with her husband who isn’t the father but seems chill about that, a 14 year old boy drinking warm milk bc he got cut off from his booze, and a 13 year old girl with trauma and anxiety disorder. Wild friend-ground, truly!
Ohohoho Ally REALLY needs to learn to close her mouth! Jon was DEF shook even tho he masked it well and Satin knew he had to shut her down ASAP. Bc of yeah she CANNOT go around saying that. But still, she’s his sister in his mind so he wasn’t cruel to her just very firm once he got her alone to have their talk. I think it did get into Ally’s head. I think she understands the weight of it a little more and maybe is even starting to believe that Jon and Satin’s relationship isn’t what she assumes.
And of course Ally’s big mouth meant Larence ended up learning about Satin’s past. Luckily, he’s chill. I think him having been a bastard helped him come to the conclusion he did and decide to base him opinion on Satin based on what he’s seen of him in Winterfell and not what he WAS. Bc Larence is a Lord *now* and he’s more now but he used to be just a bastard so he knows ppl can change and become more. And he knows Satin was very much partially responsible for giving him his title. And Larence is thankful and loyal. So he accepts Satin as he is now, not as he was then! And makes an alliance with him, too! I think Larence really does like Satin. Satin is really out here just adopting and big-brothering every orphan he finds in Winterfell lmao. He’s Big Brother shaped apparently.
Hohoho the final scene 😈 Ally’s comment really shook the hell outta Jon fr. He is staring and realizing oh... I really DO think Satin is prettier than all the girls. There is literally no one in Winterfell he’d put before Satin. He is down BAD. I think he is so in the zone, in his thoughts, he doesn’t even notice when Satin looks back at him so he doesn’t look away. He’s just too deep in his mind about it. And ooooh yeah Jon’s internal monologue is VERY much in the A Search for Warmth headspace. Man is down bad and also... vaguely horny lmao
Ehehehehe Satin knew EXACTLY what he was saying when he worded it like that! Sometimes he’s gotta tease Jon! And Jon has earned it! Making him wait and wait and wait! And Jon fully blue-screens there is like 0.0 huh what oh! Right! Your... buttons... bc of your broken hand... right. Undressing you... that thing I’ve been doing for a month..., to help. Normal style. Right. That. Sure.
Ohhh Satin!!! My baby boy! You will find out eventually! And he won’t be dissappointed, this I promise! And yeah there is def an overarching theme of how a whore doesn’t get to be loved and how it turns out that’s wrong. And Satin’s sweet moment here may be sandwiched between two silly or teasing things with Jon but it is a vulnerbale, real, moment. And Jon def does get to realize oh... it’ll be me. The *first* in a way. And I do think the way he thinks that is “IT’LL” as in It WILL. Not it could or would. I think in Jon’s mind there’s an aspect of inevitability, even tho he’s resisting and denying a lot of things.
And of course Satin’s gotta tease him a little more. Lighten the mood back up after he said what he said and play with Jon a little. And Satin knows EXACTLY what buttons to press to get Jon a bit riled up or jealous bc Satin has DEF clocked Jon’s jealousy and hint of possessiveness, for sure. And he likes it so he purposefully makes Jon get a little jealous just to get a rise out of him. And Jon knows he’s doing it. He KNOWS Satin doesn’t want Tormund. He’s said so previously. And Satin hasn’t exactly been subtle that he wants Jon. And YET! Jon falls for it every time (and probably lets himself fall for it lets be honest). And imaging some random men with Satin, he doesn’t like that one bit ehehe. And then the laces yank.... ohohohohoHO Jon. JON Snow.... you are too obvious my love. He’s so down bad it makes him look stupid.
(This teasing scene dialogue actually was lifted from a scraped chapter called A Game of Asked and Answered that was supposed to take place towards the end of the series which was a “final edging” type scene before they finally got together which was very very flirty, bordering on explicit, where Satin effectively teased him by asking him increasing intimate questions until he was just blatantly trying to get Jon to *go for it* which was cut and changed to something a bit ‘less’ in my outline because it was just too horny of a scene for them not to immediately get together/bang bc it was THAT horny lmao. And let me tell you, Satin’s teasing ended a little differently in that original scene outline.... but I liked the dialogue so I lifted it for this, made it a bit less aggressively horny, and boom here we go lmao. THO that scene is MAYBE being repurposed as a smut oneshot later soooo funnily enough we may see a version of that chunk of dialogue again in a smut oneshot if I ever write it lmao)
HA! Yeah Jon! Do something about it, big boy!! Take the step you know Satin wants you to take!! It’s all right there! And oh yeah, Jon has no fucking right to be acting this possessive when they *technically* aren’t together lmao. But as I put in the tags, they are in an “ambigous relationship but def in one at this point”. They both KNOW! Jon tried to kiss him in Washed Clean, Satin peppered kisses all over this face and upper body in that one too, And then in It Takes Two, they almost kissed again! They both know what they want! Jon just won’t take the final step!!! So yeah, they’re not “in a relationship” but they also totally are and both know that! So Jon’s possessive is def too much but also Satin accepts it bc they both know there’s more here lol And Oh yeah I do think Jon does view Satin as “his” at least in a sense. Like Satin is his own person, but he’s his steward, his friend, his not-quite-lover. But his, nonetheless.
Ahahaha Oh yeah he purposefully described Jon there! Like he’s fully telling Jon he’s Satin’s dream man, that he wants him and only him. And Jon is def moved by that. Only for Satin to pivot to Cedren just to get under Jon’s skin! Ehehehe bc he’s a brat. I do think if Jon had kissed him there it would have been a moment where he lost control type thing rather than him making the decision to kiss Satin, it would just be something that slipped out of his grasp and he would have regretted it later bc he still has all his reasons NOT to start an official relationship with Satin (even tho they are so far beyond that like come on). Now, did Jon WANT to kiss him there? YES. They’re nose to nose and there’s tension out the WAZOO but if Jon had gone for it, it would have been a lapse in control, I think.
But oooh yeah, Satin knows he’s giving himself away there as well. But he hasn’t been subtle. He told Jon in Washed Clean that he wanted to Jon to kiss him. “I want it” he fully said and invited him to kiss him in the morning when he was himself again. So Jon KNOWS Satin wants him. There is no denying that in his mind. So Satin can kind of be as obvious as he wants. What is there to hide? Jon already knows.
Eheheh I love the teasing and playful dynamic they have sometimes. Jon walks right into it every time and while he grumbles and acts all annoyed, he does secret love it and he’s hiding the blush and the smile. He likes that Satin treats him like a man and not a king. Satin’s not walking on eggshells around him or putting him on a pedestal. Jon is just a man who Satin can tease and play with and laugh at. No one else can do that with him. So Jon treasures it, even if Satin uses it for evil and riles him up eheheh

Ahahahaah I suppose I shall actually have to write A Game of Asked and Answered then!! It is now added to my list to write in between the series! The teasing *did* end "a little differently"... let's just say the tugging on Satin's laces was more like... getting pinned to a mattress... But I shall say no more... I will eventually write AGoAaA, but make it its own thing, so completely separate from A Slow Burning Fire. But I may borrow dialogue from it again later for the series! I did end up cutting it bc when I say it was horny I mean it was HORNY! And then for them *not* to get together right after that... it was too much lmao. There is still some teasing,some "encouragement" from Satin I intend to have happen, just a little less and a little more in line with the emotional through line of the series! So this incredibly horny dialogue will have to relegated to its own one shot lol
He hehh hhhee did I say that? Whoops. To assuage some fears, its not RIGHT at the end. Like they don't get together and then the series end. There's lots after that too. But it's def going to be part of the climax of the series plot arc. But that still means there's lots of denouement and couple-y bliss afterwards!
