Wow, come to think of it, a wizard coming to just Explain the Secret so suddenly would HAVE to do some sort of actual demonstration spell, to make the Muggles believe them, wouldn't they? Otherwise the Muggle would slam the door on them (and rightly so) for just being some prankster dressed up in a Halloween costume....
Hold up, Hermione recognizing that her life is JUST LIKE A STORYBOOK is almost crazily fourth-wall in the best way possible. And hearing it described this way (the kid who doesn't fit in, only to be whisked off to some adventure) really does make realize, the series would have been just as amazing and whimsical and timeless, would have worked just as well, if HERMIONE had been the main character.... (That's not a criticism of Harry at all, that's just... I guess I never realized how much I really DID want an AU where Hermione was the central heroine, until now.)
"I see you, I get you, I want you" <--OH MY GOSH YOU DID NOT HAVE TO TUG MY HEARTSTRINGS LIKE THAT, that's so comforting I want to cry now
A rewrite of the books from her POV actually has been attempted, but the execution is always a little lackluster for me. Such a pity, it would be incredible, especially starting from third year, when she begins taking all those classes Harry never picked.
