Chapter Text

Athena knew from the moment that she started to talk to Frederick Chase that she would give him the gift of being a mortal parent to one of her children. He was just so smart, and he was studying war. If he lived in the time of ancient Greece he would have been an amazing philosopher or strategist. But alas, this was much the modern age.

She helped him with his studies, pretending to be an upperclassmen, lending him some quick thought when needed.

Athena had plans, so many plans for this mortal. Now let it not be said that she had not learned anything from Odysseus. As much as mortal emotions confused her, she did make an effort to try. So she made sure that Frederick Chase wanted a child. She studied how he looked at kids whenever they would study together. She listened to his dreams of settling down with a woman and having children with her at some point in the future.

She gathered from this that he wanted a kid, not specifically with her. But if he wanted children at some point that would mean that he would make a good father. It made sense to her, if you want something you will work to keep it. So with that she decided that our graduation present for him would be one of her beloved half-blood children. He would be so honored and pleased with the gift.

She meant to give her little girl to her father on his graduation day... but she couldn't. She didn't want to part with this child. Not now, not ever again. Athena didn't want to lose him... not again.

Her best friend.

The one she let down.

The one she led astray.

The student she let down.

The one she promised to do better, to make a better world for.

He had come back to her, as her daughter.

She wanted to keep them close, to raise them on Olympus. To do them right this time. For them to be friends again.

But she couldn't.

He was nologer Odysseus. He was nologer a He... well unless they chose to be a male in the future. But that doesn't change that he was now her child, her daughter. And there were ancient rules in place for a reason. Even though she is one of her father's favorite kids, that favor doesn't often extend to her children.

She didn't want to risk the life of her baby. Her little warrior of the mind. But she couldn't bring herself to just give her away so soon.

So she keeps her little owlet closer for a week or so then gives her to her father's care.

To say she was upset to later find that Frederick Chase didn't like her gift of her favorite child was an understatement.

Notes:

Athena: I thought you want a kid!

Frederick Chase: with a wife in a couple of years! I don't want to be a single dad right out of college!

Athena: how was i supposed to know that?!
