Competitive Battling? I hardly know her!

Chapter 4: The start of the real journey

Summary:

Pokemon moves are weird man, but not as weird as the names Anduin gave

Notes:

(Hello again boyos, girlos and non-binaros! Falloric here, again with another chapter. I'm quite happy to hear back from as many of you as possible, and I'm happy to hear that you all seem to enjoy the story so far!

I was very worried to write something in this setting, even more so with a character like Anduin. He's an asshole, which is already a bit odd, but when you factor in his willingness to fight Pokémon 1 on 1, and win for that matter. He's an oddity.

Oh right! Anduin will gain Cresselia as a permanent team member, but she will not want to fight in battles unless she needs to save him. A guardian angel if you will. She'll be around, and will help him from time to time, but she will not be his Pokémon just yet. Legendaries are quite solitary after all.

This chapter will also be a bit more inspired by Zlewdomancer34 and his story "The Crimson Gardevoir", at least when it comes to how moves work and how many moves a Pokémon can know. The whole 4 move rule is kinda stupid, lets be honest here folks.

As for Anduin's naming scheme, he will be using three main languages for the naming, Irish Gaeilge, Latin and Ancient Greek.

Pronunciation guide:
Nathair - Nah(soft h)-hish(fish with an h instead of an f)
Somni - Sawm-knee (pretty much the way it is spelled)

With all that done…

Lets get on with the show!)

"Quotations represent speech."

{Curly brackets represent Poke Speech.}

(Brackets represent my comments)

Italics represent thoughts or psychic speech.

Chapter Text

Anduin stared nervously at the two of them. Sure, Cresselia was a Pokémon he wanted to have on his final team, but he was not expecting to find one so early. Nor a shiny for that matter.

Cresselia stared at him for a few moments, the silence was deafening. Eventually the first one to act was the Snivy, clinging to Anduin's shirt a bit tighter than before with a rather fierce blush on her face.

"You are an interesting one Human. What is your name?" Anduin heard Cresselia say, he didn't have to be a genius to know who was using telepathy.

"H-holy shit." He muttered, not used to the sensation. "Uhh…Hi there, I'm Anduin. You're Cresselia, right?" Anduin asked, somewhat convinced that this scenario was just a dream in his blood-deprived state.

"I am Cresselia, yes, though that is not much of a name. Anduin, that is a fitting name for someone like you. I know not why you are blessed, Anduin, but someone has high expectations of you. I will help and protect you where I can, but I do not know the reason for why I feel this way." Cresselia psychically spoke, her tone getting increasingly confused as time went on.

"...Blessed huh, interesting. Though I don't know how blessed I am, I nearly died a second ago." Anduin joked, trying to make light of the situation.

Snivy whimpered as she remembered what happened, while Cresselia merely grimaced. Anduin didn't need to be a genius to know that he shouldn't have said that.

"Shit sorry, bad timing I know." Acting on pure instinct, he gingerly reached his hands forward, making contact with each of the Pokémon's heads. He gently rubbed each of their heads carefully, not wanting to hurt either of them. "What the fuck am I doing." He practically screamed in his head.

The two Pokémon stiffened at the contact, not expecting him to do that. The Snivy simply stood ramrod straight, her eyes going wide as her blush even further intensified with every head rub. Cresselia had a different reaction altogether, rather than shying away from it, within a few moments she was happily rubbing back against his hand.

Anduin simply smiled at the reactions, finding both of them to be adorable in their own ways. "I may have bad news for you girls, I don't have any Pokéballs. Nor am I legally a trainer, I can't catch either of you."

"Who said you had to have either a trainer card or Pokéballs? I am sure Miss Snivy here would be alright just staying with you for now, and I have ways to get to you in your times of need. Surely you can capture us later with those devices. Plus, if you have a Pokémon out with you, I don't see why people would ask if you had a card." Cresselia mentioned, her tone changing nearly every sentence.

{S-snivy sni.} Snivy said from his side, rather timidly. He couldn't understand her however, of which he looked over at the psychic type legendary for aid. "Right, you humans can't understand us. Miss Snivy here said she wouldn't mind going with you."

"Hmmm…" Anduin simply sat there staring at the two of them for a few moments. As the seconds ticked by, they each got increasingly confused. Eventually he simply stated. "The two of you need names, it doesn't feel right to just refer to you by species."

The two Pokémon seemed to agree by the way they brightened up at his words, the two of them shifting a bit nervously as Anduin thought of a way to name them.

Anduin thought for a while on what to name them, he didn't want to go with something common, as he didn't feel they deserved that. He went through the languages he knew a few words in, and decided on what language to use. Gaeilge, Irish Gaeilge. Next to no one outside of Ireland even knows how to pronounce or spell the names, but to him, they all sounded beautiful.

Lifting a hand, he brought it over to pet the Snivy, having decided his name for her. "Nathair. It is a bit on the nose, as it means serpent in a language back from where I am from, but it sounds nice and I think it fits you."

Newly named Nathair thought the name over, sure it was a bit on the nose, but she agreed with Anduin's opinion, the name did sound wonderful regardless. She rubbed back against his hand gingerly, showing her appreciation for the name.

Anduin smiled, happy that she liked the name. A few moments later he reached a hand over to pet Cresselia, who moved into his hand to give him better access to her head.

"Somni. It is based after the word for dream in a different language than Nathair's name." Cresselia thought it over for a minute. "Somni. I like it." Anduin's smile widened at that,

The trio simply stayed where they were for the next few minutes, Anduin petting them happily and the two of them happily letting him do so.

"Well we better get moving then. I have to make it to the next city if I want to start my journey as a Pokémon master. I will be honest with you girls, I will train you to some of the strongest Pokémon ever, but it will not be an easy task."

Somni and Nathair stared at him, mulling over his answer. Somni simply nodded in approval, giving her answer.

Nathair on the other hand looked a bit concerned. She wanted to say yes, to say that she would do anything he wanted. Truth be told, she also wanted to get stronger, she didn't want him to try and save her and nearly die again. After a moment, she simply responded. "{Snivy!}"

Anduin smiled at them. "Do the two of you know what moves you have? I don't have a Pokédex or anything like that to check." So far, all Anduin had figured out were their natures, Nathair was timid, a very cute personality but also one that would greatly enhance her speed, but would lower her physical attack a bit.

"I will mention Anduin, it would not be fair for me to join you in your first few battles. I hope you understand why I feel this way." Somni mentioned, hoping that he wouldn't be displeased with her answer.

Anduin simply shook his head. "Aye that makes sense, as much fun as it would be to cruise through the gyms like that, I cannot rely on you to do it for me."

"Thank you, Anduin. As for what moves I know,: I know Lunar Dance, Psycho Shift, Psycho Cut, Moonlight, Confusion, Double Team, Safe Guard, Mist, Aurora Beam, Future Sight, and Slash." While she was listing them off, Anduin pulled out his notepad, writing them down.

"Interesting, we can have more than 4 moves at a time." He thought giddily, already his mind racing with new possibilities. "Alright, that's quite a good list Somni!' He praised, rubbing her head again affectionately. "There are only two more moves that I would have to teach you, but those might be a bit hard to find. We'd need TMs."

Seeing his Pokémon's confused expression, he coughed awkwardly before explaining. "Well you see, TMs are these like disk things that us humans have invented to teach you guys some moves you couldn't learn through leveling or from your parents."

Somni and Nathair nodded excitedly, rather amazed by the idea of a TM. Anduin wasn't really the best one to explain this kind of thing, he was new to all of this as well. For the moment however, he didn't plan on telling his mon that he was from another world entirely, that wasn't something anyone needed to know.

"Nathair, what moves do you know?" He asked his Snivy, there was one move in particular he was hoping she had, as that was the only way to learn it, but he had alternatives.

"{Snivy Sni: Snivy, Sni, Snivy, Snivy vy, Sni.}" Anduin looked over at Somni. "She says she knows Tackle, Leer, Vine Whip, Iron Tail and Glare." Anduin mentally cheered at the mention of the last move, that was the one he was hoping she had.

"Those are a great selection Nathair, I already know how to train you up to have you be the strongest grass type around." He reached over to keep petting her, Nathair's blush returning as she was pet.

Anduin wrote down her list of moves as well, cross referencing them with his game knowledge. For Nathair, he would have to wait for the later gyms to have her be full powered, but Somni would be easier to train, once she was willing to fight.

Standing up a bit too quick for someone who had just lost a lot of blood, he had to hold onto Somni's body to remain standing. "Ok, ok, I think I'm good now." He muttered after a few moments.

"Well girls, I think it's best if we head out now, daylight is burning after all. Nathair, do you want to ride on my shoulder? It'll be quicker than walking." Nathair shyly nodded yes, letting herself be scooped up and placed on his shoulder, her small hands holding onto his head to keep herself steady.

"Anduin, with my renown as a legendary Pokémon, it might be wise for me to leave when you encounter other humans. I do not wish to bring you harm simply because you are near me."

Anduin nodded in agreement, as sad as he was to see Somni go, he knew it would be best.

"Aye, I get it. Will you at least travel with me until then? You could always hide nearby until I was done interacting with them."

"That wouldn't work in towns, but yes, I believe that will work."

"I'm happy to hear that." Anduin reached over, pulling Somni into a hug. Unbeknownst to him, this close proximity was enough for their minds to merge. Somni went slack for a moment before looking away with a very prominent blush.

"It is best that we start moving then, Master." Somni spoke, her tone tinged with an ever so faint amount of lust.
