Summary
Keiji Mogami remembered, at the last second- an afterthought, really- that the stray in Shigeo's nightmare had been named Miracle, and was made of all the things that a miracle worker had helped him to be.
(White. The color of purity and newness in the west, and of death in the east.
Keiji Mogami died a long time ago, but there's a part of him that still can't accept the promise of rest that comes with death. He continues on, neither dead, nor alive. He is only empty, and hurting, and always watching.)

“It’s my favorite,” Shigeo prompted, as if that meant something.
“Oh. Okay. Thank you,” Katsuya tried.
(Serizawa Katsuya is a shrinking violet if there ever was one. But he'll flourish, surely, with enough care.)

Summary
“About me. What has Kageyama told you?”
“What has Mob told… me?” Tome stuttered.
Teruki nodded. “Yes. You said he talks about me. What does he say?”
(Once, Teruki wrongly thought himself born to the purple thanks to his many, many gifts. It is a mistake he paid dearly for- indigo is, after all, much too expensive for a commoner.)

“Why don’t you let Little Brother be?” Teruki pried.
“I dunno. Why don’t you leave that Shigeo guy alone?” Shou countered.
(The Kageyama boys appeared in their lives out of the blue- both of them, for both Teruki and Shou. It's only fair that both boys do the same for them, sometimes.)

Summary
“I don’t like tomatoes,” Ritsu mumbled, defeated.
Shigeo shuffled in his sandals. “Oh. I’m sorry. I thought you did.”
(Ritsu has always been jealous of his brother. So jealous, in fact, that sometimes it fills him to the brim and eclipses how much he loves him. But Shigeo is steadfast, and Shigeo never lets envy swallow him whole. In fact, the only green things about Shigeo, honestly, are his thumbs and his age. It makes Ritsu feel like shit.)

“Well. You’re rude," Shou said.
Sakurai’s answer was immediate. “So are you.”
(Shou is arrogant and cocky, but there are things he is afraid of. He's yellow, because every time he comes close to facing the truth, he runs away.)

Summary
The yellow tomatoes on Shigeo’s vine swayed, glistening, like golden apples in the garden of a god, and the leaves of the plant conducted a silent, gentle orchestra beneath the swirling atmosphere generated by the fan up above. His chair remained empty like a throne, the royal purple of Teruki’s jacket acting as a tapestry from where it hung on the rack behind it. Reigen stood in front of it, a knight dressed in plain grey instead of gleaming silver.
And Teruki himself was a commoner.
(Reigen's got a silver tongue, but he also has a heart of gold- sometimes. When he feels like it. Teruki does not, though he admits that his tongue does gleam with an edge, like a knife; he doesn't want to steal what Reigen has so much as become an alchemist, and to transform himself into something comparable, but from the inside.)

Summary
Shigeo’s dark, hollow eyes peered into Tome’s soul. “I loved her.”
(Roses are red, carrots are orange. Shigeo likes Tsubomi, and... uh, nothing rhymes with orange!)

Summary
Reigen had the grace to be still and tranquil, like a rod of iron reaching up from the earth and into the heavens, unaffected by the prying, insistent gusts spinning around it, waiting.
And Ritsu struck. “I hate you.”
(Despite the green-eyed monster in his heart, Ritsu sees red when he uses his power. He painted spots of it on himself just to get stronger, be fearsome, be worthy, carved a scarlet letter of suffering and guilt on his conscience just to bend some spoons. Now, everything around him wilts and warps- everything- when his anger flashes in front of him. It's like waving a flag before a bull.
And regardless of his intentions, Reigen might as well be a matador.)

“Snot wad.”
“Vandal.”
“Corn teeth.”
“Wannabe.”
Shou snorted. “Wannabe? What kind of insult is that? A wannabe what?”
“Tyrant, obviously,” Dimple said.
(Dimple is dead, but that's not a big deal. When you see the world through rose-colored glasses, the fact that you're so lonely you try to be God to fill the void in your heart doesn't really get you down.)

Summary
Reigen smiled, pain evident in his teeth. “He saw a problem, and made the effort to go out and fix it. Been doin’ it for four years.” He turned his head to take in Ritsu. “And you’re not. Not really. You’re just being selfish and cowardly.”
(Grey- it's not white, it's not death, it's not black, it's not life, but somewhere in the middle. It's not good or bad or even that notable, really. It's just grey, and it's just there, and sometimes you always need a sort of middle ground.
And that's exactly where Arataka Reigen sits.)

Summary
“So are you,” Teruki insisted. “And you have wonderful people who support you because of who you are. You’re the most exceptional person I know.”
A twinkle entered Shigeo’s dull eyes, like inside of them were a pair of stars that decided to compete with the sun sitting in the daytime sky. He stood up straighter. “It must be true if you say so.”
Spring arrived with little fanfare, but it arrived all the same.
(Black- the color of death in the west, but of life in the east.
From dark soil comes new growth, new feelings, new beginnings, and the aggregate of every color in the palette being mixed together into one. Shigeo Kageyama’s color is black because he hopes for all of these things, believes in all of these things, and endures all of these things.)
